Chapter 677: 040: His Concern

Being yelled at like that, Mu Lezhu on the other end of the phone was stunned. This was the first time she had heard him speak so emotionally.

"Speak." Seeing that Mu Lezhu hadn’t spoken, Lu Jingang frowned displeasedly and commanded in a stern voice.

"Yeah, I rear-ended someone." Mu Lezhu snapped back to reality and steadily answered his question.

"Is it serious?"

"Um... it’s okay, just the car doesn’t look too good."

"How about you?"

"Hmm?"

"Are you injured?" Lu Jingang never had much patience, and as he repeated the question, his tone was evidently impatient. He threw off the covers, stepped into his slippers, and walked towards the closet to get dressed and go out.

"Not too bad, just a cut on the ankle, some blood came out. The ambulance that just got here has already treated and disinfected it, and it’s bandaged up. Nothing too major." Mu Lezhu looked down at her ankle wrapped with white gauze.

She wore a pair of skinny jeans today, paired with some dad shoes, leaving her ankle exposed. As luck would have it, during the rear-end, her ankle got cut and injured. She reckoned she’d be limping for days, as she needed two policewomen to help her down from the police car and into the station. They weren’t exactly helping; they were basically carrying her.

Her other uninjured ankle also seemed to have twisted slightly, with a bruise above it, and it still hurt a bit when putting weight on it. Her legs were really giving her a hard time. She was already feeling exhausted and uncertain about her life for the next few days.

"Send me your location on WeChat." Lu Jingang pursed his lips, randomly picked two pieces of clothing from his closet, dropped this cold statement, and hung up the phone.

Mu Lezhu looked at the ’Call Ended’ screen and was at a loss for words. His attitude made her wonder if it was just her imagination, but she felt like he was actually caring and concerned for her.

But soon, Mu Lezhu shook her head to dismiss this fanciful thought, opened WeChat, found the chat with Lu Jingang where they had never chatted, and sent her location.

The rain outside was still pouring heavily. When Lu Jingang finished changing and came out of the room, Aunt Chen just finished tidying up the kitchen. Seeing his attire, she asked, "Sir, you’re going out?"

"Yeah." Lu Jingang responded indifferently, grabbing the car keys from the drawer in the hallway and putting on his shoes.

"The rain is pouring down outside! There’s even thunder and lightning. Is it an emergency? Maybe you should wait until it eases?" Aunt Chen glanced at the rain outside the living room’s large window, her concern and worry evident in her words and expression.

"No worries, you rest early." Lu Jingang glanced at the rain but paid it no mind. After making eye contact with Aunt Chen, he went straight out the door.

About two minutes later, Aunt Chen heard the sound of an engine. From the living room’s large window, she could see clearly that a black Maybach drove out of the garage into the pouring night rain, disappearing from her sight.

Following the location Mu Lezhu sent, Lu Jingang arrived at the traffic police station where she was, parked the car, took out a spare black umbrella from the car, and headed into the station.

There weren’t many people at the traffic police station, perhaps because it was nighttime and most had finished work. Lu Jingang looked around but didn’t see Mu Lezhu, so he sent her a voice message on WeChat asking where she was.

Turning down a corridor, he encountered a police officer who glanced at him and asked, "Hello, is there something you need help with?"

Lu Jingang stopped walking, looked up, and as he was about to say something, he saw Mu Lezhu sitting on a bench, head down, typing on her phone.

"No need, I’m here to find someone." Lu Jingang nodded politely to the police officer, and his gaze naturally fell on Mu Lezhu not far away.

Upon hearing the voice, Mu Lezhu instinctively turned her head. Seeing Lu Jingang standing there, she unexpectedly felt a bit relieved, yet also a bit wronged, her nose tingled slightly, but she held back from crying.

She wasn’t one to cry easily, always trying to tough it out if she could. Although she didn’t seem that strong on the outside, there was a sense of being tough outwardly but fragile within, a part of her she never willingly showed to others.

As Lu Jingang looked over, Mu Lezhu put on a gentle, serene smile and waved at him. Originally she wanted to get up, but the moment she put any weight on her feet, sharp pain radiated, making her abandon the idea immediately, and she could only smile awkwardly.

Lu Jingang narrowed his eyes into a thin slit and naturally looked at her feet. As expected, her exposed ankle was bandaged, her face wasn’t looking too good, and even a blind person could see that smile was forced.

Once the officer walked away, Lu Jingang approached her. "Are you sure you’re okay?"

His husky voice still carried a hint of coldness, but in Mu Lezhu’s ears, it unexpectedly felt warm.

"Yeah, I’m fine."

"Did you rear-end someone, or did someone rear-end you?" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"I was rear-ended."

Lu Jingang glanced at her visibly damp hair and what seemed to be a wet coat, his brow furrowing instantly. "Did you get caught in the rain?"

"Yeah, it was pouring during the crash, and there was no umbrella in the car. But on my way to the station, a policewoman helped me dry my hair and clothes quite a bit, so it’s fine. Could you go in and sign for me? As for the rest of the compensation matters, I’ll have Aunt Jian handle them tomorrow." Mu Lezhu nodded and simply explained, indicating him to head to the office upfront.

It was spring, and after the rain, the temperature dropped significantly, leaving it quite chilly. Having been caught in the rain, her clothes hadn’t completely dried. Even though the heating was on inside, she still felt cold, occasionally shivering involuntarily.

"Are you cold?" Seeing her somewhat pale face, Lu Jingang asked with pursed lips.

"No..." Mu Lezhu immediately straightened her back, instinctively denying it.

But before she could finish her sentence, she saw that Lu Jingang had already casually draped his coat over her, while acting nonchalant, "This heating here is way too high, it’s suffocating."

Mu Lezhu stared blankly at the coat in her lap, then looked up at him. Her red lips moved several times but she couldn’t bring herself to utter a word.

"Take off your coat and change into it; I’ll be right back." Perhaps feeling a bit awkward under Mu Lezhu’s gaze, Lu Jingang looked away, turned aside, and leaving that remark, he walked into the office with his head held high.
