My Aloof Husband Can't Stop His Devoted Affection-Chapter 580 - 031: Misunderstanding_3
"Shall we talk later?"
"There’s nothing to talk about between us."
"How do you know there’s nothing to talk about if you don’t give it a try?"
"..."
"I’m telling you..."
"Yeah, I’m shameless like that. You didn’t just meet me today," Nan Jiayan said with a pleased raise of his eyebrow, unbuckling his seatbelt and pulling out the car key. "Let’s go up first! I’ll carry Little Yu’er, and I’ll trouble you with the rest of the stuff."
"..."
Lu Shishu shot him a speechless glare. The speed with which he changed the topic was impressive; he took advantage and ran without a bit of hesitation.
After Nan Jiayan got out of the car, he opened the back door, leaned over, and gently held the little girl in his arms. Seeing her nervously raising her hand to grab something and then suddenly opening her eyes, Nan Jiayan hurriedly comforted her, "Don’t be afraid, it’s me. Would you like me to carry you upstairs to sleep?"
Upon hearing Nan Jiayan’s voice, Little Yu’er seemed to calm down, nodding her head, then drowsily closing her eyes and resting on his shoulder with a sense of security and sweetness as she fell asleep.
Lu Shishu took a deep breath, feeling somewhat annoyed, but when he saw Little Yu’er sleeping on his shoulder, he swallowed the words that were on the tip of his tongue.
She was very much aware of her feelings for him, yet a barrier had always existed in her heart, making her deliberately distance herself from him. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
After carrying the items bought for Little Yu’er upstairs, Lu Shishu watched Nan Jiayan expertly enter the password, then walk inside, not forgetting to glance back at her, "No need to change your shoes, just come in! I’ll go settle Little Yu’er in her room first."
Lu Shishu didn’t respond, not even with a simple syllable. Standing at the entrance, she watched Nan Jiayan’s back as he carried Little Yu’er inside, paused for a couple of seconds before carrying the things into the living room, also helping by closing the door behind her.
Lu Shishu had not intended to stay here for long, planning to leave after putting the things down, but when her eyes inadvertently swept past the corner of the living room where a painting hung, she was once again stunned, her breath catching as her pupils slowly expanded.
She might not have noticed these details yesterday or this morning, but she hadn’t realized this painting was here.
The painting was no different than she remembered, though it appeared slightly dated after so many years, yet it was well-preserved without any damage. The boy full of youthful spirit under the sycamore tree, playing with his phone, remained the same.
The sunlight on that day was just right, a gentle breeze rustling the sycamore leaves, occasionally letting a few leaves fall. The spirited boy always had a mischievous yet warm smile, his bright black eyes like a galaxy, unforgettable and slightly endearing.
After settling Little Yu’er, Nan Jiayan hurried out, afraid Lu Shishu would leave after waiting too long. Passing by the dining room, he saw her standing there motionless, her eyes on that unremarkable painting on the wall. He paused briefly, then smiled, his lips curving into a beautiful arc.
"What is it? Why are you zoning out at this painting?" Nan Jiayan asked with a deep smile, approaching her lightly from behind.
The sudden voice jerked Lu Shishu out of her thoughts. Turning around, she met his dazzling, galaxy-like black eyes, causing an inexplicable tremor in her heart, a rare hint of panic flashing across her pretty face.
"It’s nothing. Is Little Yu’er asleep?"
"Yes, she fell asleep as soon as she hit the bed, didn’t even want to take off her clothes. She threw a tantrum earlier, but was rather easy to soothe." Nan Jiayan replied softly, with an affectionate smile, then gazed at the painting for a few moments before speaking again, "I’ve always kept this painting well because every time I see it, I get reminded of you. You were my biggest regret seven years ago, not being able to say goodbye. I’m sorry for hurting you for so long. I’m sorry. I know no words can make up for the hurt I’ve caused, but I still want to clear up any misunderstandings between us."
Lu Shishu looked at him, her gaze gradually turning cold, her crimson lips pressed together with no intention of speaking. They stood in the living room like that, the atmosphere unnervingly silent.
