My Aloof Husband Can't Stop His Devoted Affection-Chapter 414 - 015: Household Matters_3
"Can’t I call you if there’s nothing special?"
"No..." Hearing his teasing tone, Ye Lingran instinctively replied.
"Do you have time tonight?"
"Uh... My mom called me this afternoon saying they came back from Australia and asked me to go back for dinner tonight. Is there something up?"
Yun Qi smiled, "Oh, I see! It’s nothing major. I just happen to be free today too, and the company is on holiday. Don’t you still have a pair of shoes at my place? I was thinking of bringing them over today. Since you’re busy, let’s do it tomorrow! You should have time tomorrow, right?"
"Yeah, I do." Ye Lingran paused as she opened the car door, just remembering that her shoes were still at his place and she hadn’t picked them up. After thinking for a moment, she added, "Morning or afternoon tomorrow?"
"Morning!"
"Alright, call me tomorrow morning then!"
"Okay."
"Well, I’m... hanging up now."
"Alright."
After hanging up with Yun Qi, Ye Lingran gazed at the phone screen for a while before gathering her thoughts, bending down to sit in the car, and driving back to her family villa.
She actually officially moved out of the villa when she was eighteen. The apartment she lives in now was a coming-of-age gift from her dad, decorated according to her own tastes. Since graduating from college, she’s mostly lived at the apartment, rarely going back to the villa because it was too quiet. After Grandma Ye was diagnosed with dementia, she personally hired a professional caregiver to take care of her daily life and visits her at least once a week, and on less busy days, she goes back almost every day to have meals and accompany her to medical appointments. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Speaking of which, compared to her parents and Grandma Ye, she’s spent more time with Grandma Ye. Her feelings toward her parents are quite complex; neither too intimate nor too distant, but lacking the warmth she feels with Cen Jin or Aunt Qin. It’s more about respect and politeness.
Since she could remember, her parents were always busy. Even when they were in Nancheng, it was hard for her to see them; they would always leave early and return late. Sometimes, they even slept at the law firm without coming back, or they would be traveling all over the world for business trips. Although they always brought her gifts when they returned, what she longed for most at that time was simply to have meals together or go to an amusement park just once. As she grew older, those wishes faded; she stopped longing for them as much. Her personality became especially independent and strong-willed, but because of her time with Grandma, she also became gentle and wise, and her social circle remained small.
Even though she’s an only child, she believes her personality has flaws, especially when interacting with the opposite sex. She often feels like withdrawing and has a sense of inferiority in matters of the heart. Yet, in work, she can perfectly showcase her confident side.
By the time she returned to the villa district, it was already completely dark. Ye Lingran got out of the car and, seeing the brightly lit villa, closed the car door, and walked inside with her bag and phone. Since there was no one at home and her parents often traveled, the original housekeeper only came by once a week to clean.
After stepping inside, Ye Lingran changed her shoes at the entrance and walked to the living room, where she saw Ru Junlan serving dishes, and she smiled and called out, "Mom."
"You’re back. I just finished cooking. Wash your hands and get ready to eat!" Ru Junlan smiled warmly and gestured for her to come over, "It’s been so long since I cooked; I’m a bit out of practice. Not sure how it tastes."
Ye Lingran put down her bag, coat, and scarf on the sofa and walked to the table. Looking at the simple four dishes and a soup, she smiled slightly, "It seems it should taste quite good. Where’s Dad? Didn’t he also return from Australia?"
"He went to sleep after coming back. Why don’t you go upstairs and call him? He’s having a hard time adjusting his jet lag after staying in Australia for so long, and he’s tired from sitting on the plane for such an extended period."
"Mom, you should also rest well. You could’ve just ordered takeout tonight or asked me to come back and cook." Seeing Ru Junlan wearing a white turtleneck sweater with a black A-line skirt underneath and an apron on top was quite different from her usually capable appearance.
"Weren’t you planning to visit Grandma this afternoon? Besides, I thought it would be nice to take this rare opportunity to cook for my daughter."
Ye Lingran gave a heartfelt smile. Though not very close with her parents, she knew they loved her deeply, even if they weren’t apt at expressing it.
"Then I’ll go upstairs to call Dad for dinner."
"Alright, go ahead!"
Ye Lingran turned and headed upstairs straight to the master bedroom. She knocked on the door but didn’t hear any response, so she unlocked the door and went inside. Turning on the lamp but not the main light, she worried that the brightness might be too harsh when Ye Chengmin woke up.
She walked to the bed, seeing Ye Chengmin looking exhausted. Ye Lingran pursed her lips; he seemed to have aged even more compared to two months ago, with some new gray hairs.
After watching for a while, Ye Lingran gently nudged him, "Dad, wake up. Mom’s made dinner, and it’s time to eat!"
Hearing the sound, Ye Chengmin started waking up. He opened his eyes and, seeing his daughter, quickly sat up, "Ranran, you’re back."
"Yeah, Dad, have you not been getting enough rest? Those dark circles are really heavy."
"It’s nothing, it’s nothing. It’s almost the New Year, so these days I can just rest well at home." Ye Chengmin laughed heartily, throwing off the covers and getting up, he reached out and patted Ye Lingran’s head, "But you, why do you seem thinner than the last time I saw you? Have you been eating well? Is work busy?"
"All good! I just finished the final work today, so I’m on holiday too." The father and daughter chatted while walking downstairs.
"Come on down and wash your hands for dinner!" Ru Junlan said softly and smiled as she watched them come down.
After washing their hands, they sat at the dining table, and Ru Junlan placed a piece of rib into her bowl, letting her taste it. Ye Lingran tried it and nodded with a smile, "Mm, it’s delicious."
"Glad you like it, eat more."
"Yeah! Lan, don’t you think Ranran seems thinner?"
"At first glance, I thought her face seemed sharper. Have you been too busy lately, not eating or resting well?"
"Right! I noticed it too."
Hearing her parents’ concern, Ye Lingran couldn’t help but laugh, "I’m fine; the studio’s just a bit busy. But you two should definitely pay attention to your health, don’t overwork yourselves."
The three of them were quite harmonious and happy. Suddenly, Ye Chengmin remembered and asked, "Ranran, did you visit your grandma today? How is she? Any improvement in her condition?"
"Yeah, she’s doing well, but her memory is getting worse. Today she asked about you two, four times. After asking, she’d forget and ask again. I spoke with the doctor today too, and her overall condition is pretty good." Ye Lingran replied with a smile.
Actually, her dad and Grandma Ye didn’t have a very good relationship because Grandma Ye is Ye Chengmin’s stepmother. So from a young age, Ye Chengmin was never close to Grandma Ye and never liked having a stepmother. He always had a sense of resistance, but he still respected her. So after she was born, they especially brought Grandma Ye from her grandfather’s old home to live with them. Although they aren’t as close as biological family, one could say they are filial. After all, Grandma Ye treated Ye Lingran genuinely well, like her own granddaughter.
