Chapter 935: Chapter 832: Telling_13

"Who’s asking about dinner? I’m asking you—have you seen Zhentian?" Old Master Zhang asked Aunt Xu.

Aunt Xu suddenly understood and told Old Master Zhang, "Master, the young master called this morning and said that if Miss Xia came looking for him, I should tell her to wait for him at home. When the young master came in earlier, he was still looking everywhere for Miss Xia. When he finally saw her, he was overjoyed, but later, I don’t know what the two of them talked about—they got into an argument. In the end, Miss Xia left, and the young master went upstairs and hasn’t come down since."

After hearing Aunt Xu’s explanation, combined with what Xia Jing had said to him at the company, Old Master Zhang roughly understood the situation.

"Alright, I see. Aunt Xu, you go ahead and get busy," Old Master Zhang said to Aunt Xu. "I’ll go check on Zhentian upstairs."

"Okay, Master." Aunt Xu bowed slightly to Old Master Zhang before heading back to the kitchen to continue preparing dinner.

Old Master Zhang poured himself a glass of water, drank it, and then slowly climbed up the stairs to find Zhang Zhentian.

When Old Master Zhang reached Zhang Zhentian’s bedroom door, he knocked and then walked in. As soon as he entered, he saw his son drunkenly collapsed beside the bed. He stepped closer and touched Zhang Zhentian’s head, but there was no reaction. Old Master Zhang then picked up the bottle of alcohol placed by the bed and splashed it on Zhang Zhentian’s face, instantly waking him up. Zhang Zhentian was about to curse whoever had done it but froze when he looked up and realized it was his father.

"Dad, when did you come back?" Zhentian quickly took the lead and asked Old Master Zhang.

"Hmph! Do you even have the nerve to ask me when I came back? Look at yourself—what kind of behavior is this? Drinking is one thing, but bringing alcohol into your bedroom? Do you have no regard for family rules?" Old Master Zhang yelled angrily.

Knowing that he was clearly in the wrong, all Zhang Zhentian could do was stand there submissively, taking his father’s scolding without saying a word.

"Dad, I know I was wrong. Please don’t be angry—it’s not worth it if it affects your health," Zhang Zhentian said, anxiously patting his father’s heaving chest after noticing his flushed face from anger.

Old Master Zhang was so furious he couldn’t even form his words properly. He stammered, "Z-Zhentian..."

"Dad, don’t rush. Speak slowly."

Old Master Zhang sat on the bed, breathing heavily. After a long while, he finally spoke, "Zhentian, I need to ask you something."

Zhentian found it strange—he couldn’t think of anything his father might want to ask him. Could it be about work again? His mind raced: "Today, I abruptly left while negotiating something at the company and haven’t returned since. Is Dad going to ask me about this? If he finds out that my sudden departure was because Xia Jing called me, things will go very badly. Disaster, disaster!" He worried that his father would ask why he had left the company meeting earlier that day, and he didn’t want to deepen his father’s misunderstanding of Xia Jing.

Old Master Zhang seemed to pick up on Zhang Zhentian’s anxiety. "Why are you so nervous?"

"Nervous? No, of course not, Dad. I haven’t done anything wrong—why would I be nervous?" Zhang Zhentian replied, his guilt evident.

"Good, as long as you’re not nervous." Old Master Zhang could tell exactly why Zhentian was uneasy, but he didn’t press further, instead giving a knowing smirk.

That smirk sent shivers down Zhentian’s spine, prompting him to blur out, "Dad, just ask me whatever you want to ask."

"Alright, relax. I’m not going to ask you why you suddenly left this morning."

Zhang Zhentian breathed an audible sigh of relief.

"Because I already know the reason—you left because Xia Jing called you," Old Master Zhang said, bluntly addressing the elephant in the room.

"Since you already know, what else could you possibly need to ask me?" Zhang Zhentian asked, confused.

"Zhentian, I want to know—did you say something to Xia Jing?"

"Dad, what could I possibly say to Xia Jing? Honestly!"

"If you didn’t say anything to her, then tell me—have you ever said or done anything regarding Li Jiayuan that Xia Jing could’ve misunderstood?"

"Dad, did Xia Jing say something to you?" Zhang Zhentian asked, probing his father’s intentions.

"That’s none of your concern. I just want to know if you’ve ever said or done something because of Li Jiayuan that could’ve caused Xia Jing to misunderstand," Old Master Zhang insisted, refusing to let go of the topic.

Clearly, his father knew something; otherwise, he wouldn’t be fixated on this issue. Given the circumstances, Zhang Zhentian decided it might be better to come clean.

"Dad, you’re right—Xia Jing does have some misunderstandings about me, but it’s not entirely my fault!" Zhentian argued defensively.

"Alright, Zhentian, let me be honest with you. I think Xia Jing is a good girl. She’s very straightforward and has a unique personality. Although she’s a mercenary, deep down, she has a kind heart. She’s a good person, and you should treat her well," Old Master Zhang said with heartfelt seriousness.

Old Master Zhang had no intention of continuing to interrogate Zhang Zhentian about his relationship with Xia Jing. He decided to let things take their natural course. Xia Jing had already left; whether they could be together in the future was now up to fate.

"Dad, does this mean you approve of me and Xia Jing being together?" Zhentian asked in a burst of excitement.

"Yes, I approve. But whether you can actually be together will depend on both of you," his father replied.

"Great! That’s all I need—thank you, Dad!" Thrilled, Zhentian hugged his father tightly, catching Old Master Zhang off guard. Ever since meeting Xia Jing, Zhentian hadn’t hugged him once, and now he did so because his father had approved of their relationship.

"Sigh... You thank me now, but I wonder if, one day, when you find out that I knew Xia Jing had left but didn’t tell you, you’ll hate me to the bone," Old Master Zhang thought to himself as he looked at his ecstatic son. "What a pity Xia Jing has already gone. Sigh."

Zhentian had no idea what his father was thinking. He let go of Old Master Zhang and immediately prepared to run off to find Xia Jing. When Old Master Zhang saw this, he stopped him.

"It’s so late already. Don’t go looking for Xia Jing tonight—wait until tomorrow."

"Yes, yes, you’re right. I’m so happy I lost my senses. I should let Xia Jing rest well," Zhentian agreed, thinking his father made a valid point. Yet, he didn’t realize that Xia Jing had already boarded a flight to the UK.
