My Alleged Husband-Chapter 927 - 832: Telling_5
"Do you really think Xiao Ling is incapable of making mistakes at work?" Old Master Zhang sounded a bit skeptical that his son would praise a girl other than Xia Jing.
"Of course! Who in the company doesn’t know what kind of person Xiao Ling is?"
"Do you know there’s been another issue at the company?" Old Master Zhang asked Zhang Zhentian.
Zhang Zhentian froze. Impossible, right? The company had only just pulled through a tough time—how could there be another problem?
"Dad, what’s wrong with the company now? Didn’t Xia Jing cover the funding gap when Shen Yang and Deng Chao pulled their investments? How is there another problem?" Zhang Zhentian asked anxiously.
"The current issue at the company involves Xiao Ling, the finance department manager you mentioned. After my investigation, it turns out that not long after investments from Shen Yang and Deng Chao came in, the company started experiencing tax evasion, falsified accounts, and a large sum of misappropriated public funds. All these issues were under her management." Old Master Zhang told Zhang Zhentian about the new crisis. Upon hearing this, Zhang Zhentian immediately understood his father’s suspicion: that Xiao Ling might be connected to the problems.
"Dad, I’ll get to the bottom of this. I trust that this has nothing to do with Xiao Ling, the finance department manager." Zhang Zhentian said decisively before leaving the company to launch a thorough investigation into the matter.
After chatting briefly with Xia Jing, Zhang Zhentian left, while Xia Jing was left there to revel in a moment of relief.
Despite some earlier doubts in Zhang Zhentian’s mind that Xia Jing might have sent Xiao Wei to assassinate Li Jiayuan, when Xia Jing spoke, it painted a different story. Even though he understood that mercenary groups always had ruthless individuals among them, alongside others who retained their humanity despite pain, it was still unbearable for him to imagine the girl he loved so deeply as one of the ruthless ones.
As Zhang Zhentian walked away, he couldn’t stop thinking: even if Xia Jing hadn’t killed before, this time she truly sent someone to assassinate Li Jiayuan. How could he possibly explain this to Dad? The more he thought about it, the angrier he grew. He kept praising Xia Jing in front of his father, seeing her in the best possible light—yet who could’ve imagined she’d truly resort to murder? Now that he was heading home, how was he supposed to face him? Should he tell the truth? Or should he keep covering for Xia Jing, just so they could stay together? Zhang Zhentian was riddled with inner conflict—caught between the woman he loved and his father, helping either side seemed unfair.
Meanwhile, after Zhang Zhentian left, Xia Jing began to reflect. She wasn’t sure whether she should proactively confess to Old Master Zhang about the assassination attempt on Li Jiayuan. She feared that if Old Master Zhang uncovered the truth himself and confirmed it was her doing, it would truly mean the end of her relationship with Zhang Zhentian. Despite being a mercenary, she still had someone she loved deeply—and she was afraid her own mistake might cost her that love. After much deliberation, Xia Jing decided to come clean to Old Master Zhang—better to admit it herself than to have someone else confirm her involvement. She called Old Master Zhang and scheduled a meeting.

As Xia Jing saw Old Master Zhang step out of the car and approach the café, she shouted, "Uncle, over here." She waved at him warmly.
Old Master Zhang noticed Xia Jing enthusiastically greeting him. He was about to respond to her when he suddenly remembered Li Haixiao coming to his house to ask about Xia Jing’s role in the assassination attempt on Li Jiayuan. His anger flared instantly, making him ignore her greeting entirely. Yet, moments later, Old Master Zhang realized: if the truth of the situation hadn’t been fully uncovered yet, what right did he have to jump to conclusions and place blame prematurely? With this shift in thinking, Old Master Zhang responded to Xia Jing after all.
Old Master Zhang strode over to Xia Jing with large steps.
"Uncle, please have a seat. What would you like to drink?" Xia Jing politely asked Old Master Zhang.
"A cup of coffee with no sugar!" Old Master Zhang replied briskly without even lifting his head.
"Sure. Waiter, one cup of coffee without sugar and one cup with sugar, please." Xia Jing called out to the server.
Old Master Zhang didn’t bother with pleasantries and jumped straight to the point, asking Xia Jing what she wanted from him.
"Speak. Why did you ask me here?" Old Master Zhang asked Xia Jing bluntly.
