My Alleged Husband-Chapter 777 - 747: The Call of Family Ties (Part 3)_1
Ran Zhihan had already quietly changed into five different outfits. When he stepped into the intensive care unit, he felt it was time he exerted effort, as someone who was part of the family. He couldn’t just let his spouse grieve in silence; perhaps leaving her alone in there was the biggest mistake. He had to face the sight of two loved ones lying there by himself—how could he possibly cope? All he ever wanted was a peaceful home, yet year after year, tragedy struck again and again, ultimately robbing her of a happy family, leaving her to live alone, desolate and unsupported.
"Yichen, you go out first, let me talk to Mom and Dad for a while. You must be tired too. You need to rest well and take care of your health. Grandfather is waiting for you to console him. If you don’t visit him for a few days, he’ll start to get suspicious, and you know how skeptical Grandfather can be. Even the slightest thing can give him the wrong impression, leading him to doubt and investigate."
"Now is not the time to let Grandfather find out that something has happened to Mom and Dad again. It would be too much for his heart to handle. He can’t bear to watch his children suffer one mishap after another; how could he, an old man, endure such blows?"
Zhang Yichen wanted to say something, but seeing that his wife’s words came from the heart, he knew she was right. He really should go and comfort his grandfather. It had been several days; his grandfather may have already suspected the truth. If Yichen continued without consoling him, the consequences could become even more unpredictable.
"Zhihan, I’ll listen to you. I’ll go and soothe Grandfather and then take Uncle and the others out to get something to eat. You stay here and watch over Mom and Dad. Don’t let anything else happen to them. If there’s any problem, contact me immediately, okay?"
"I will, don’t worry. You go have lunch with Uncle and the rest this afternoon with peace of mind, and I’ll stay here. You must remember to calm Grandfather down. Don’t let him see any flaws, or he really won’t be able to handle it!"
Zhang Yichen nodded and left the intensive care unit. His first task now was to calm his grandfather’s emotions. He worried that if his grandfather didn’t see him for even a moment, trouble would arise. He couldn’t bear to lose any more family; his parents had become as if they were in a coma, and if anything happened to his grandfather, what meaning would his life still hold? The departure in the second year only led to the dissolution and ruin of his family.
Ran Zhihan sat in the chair her husband had occupied, wanting to sit down and have a proper talk with her in-laws.
"Mom and Dad, I am your daughter-in-law. You should still remember me, right? Although you haven’t been with us over the years, I am still very grateful. If it weren’t for you two, how could I have such an outstanding husband? What he has given me in life, nobody else could give. His life has been tough, making his way to today entirely on his own, step by difficult step. Even if you were watching from the sidelines, you never came out to show concern. He always thought his parents had completely abandoned him.
"But when he heard you say that you’ve been watching his every move all along, just never stepping forward, you must know how crushed he felt inside at that moment. He was looking for his family’s care, yet even though you saw it, you didn’t want to step forward!"
"Your prolonged absence, your lack of companionship, has hurt your son deeply and brought immense emotional pain to my child as well. Do you realize that? All his friends know they have grandparents, yet my child alone does not. My child suffers mockery at school, always clinging to me, asking why he doesn’t have grandparents, why they heartlessly abandoned him. What am I supposed to say as a mother? I’m human too; I also feel for my child."
"Time and again, I’ve lied to my child, and just when he was utterly convinced, his grandparents returned. But why, now that you’re back, must such things happen? He worked hard to finish his training abroad early, just to come home and talk to his grandparents. He wanted to stay with you, for you to stay at home, secure and never leave again."
"As a junior, I should not say this, but if you feel even a shred of guilt, shouldn’t you wake up quickly out of your will to survive, to look at your relatives, and see what has become of your parents?"
"Your sudden illness has caused so much grief for so many. Everyone is worried and anxious for you, but the two of you lie here, indifferent, enjoying the comfort provided here. Maybe you think it’s comfortable, but to your loved ones, all this care is torture. No matter how much I say, it’s useless. If you can hear me, wake up quickly. Don’t keep sleeping, don’t continue on this path of no return."
No matter what Ran Zhihan said in there, no matter how heartfelt, the two people on the beds remained unresponsive, as if everything in the world had nothing to do with them anymore. They were responsible only for their happiness in their dreams, for their eternal sleep in their own world, completely forgetting that their family was still waiting for them, their will to live being slowly eroded.
"Mom and Dad, it’s been long enough. It’s time for you to wake up. Continuing this sleep does no good for your health. If you go on like this, you’ll only cause your relatives to fall into depression because of their worries for you. Do you really have the heart to watch your own family hurt by your own indifference? No matter what you’ve done, others can forgive you unconditionally. Your family has been hurt so deeply by you, yet they still choose to forgive you, simply because you are their family. Can you really bear letting your family down time and again, to suffer because of you?"
