Chapter 58: Chapter 56 Refusal_1

Li Jiayuan was very happy inside. She had thought that Xia Jing wouldn’t be able to persuade Xiao Wei to meet her, and even if she could persuade him, it would take some time. But to her surprise, Xia Jing had managed it so quickly.

Li Jiayuan hurriedly replied to Xia Jing’s message, "Have you told him when to come out for the meeting?"

Xia Jing knew that Li Jiayuan was very excited, and she quickly replied, "Miss Li, I know you’re excited, and I understand how you feel right now, but please control your emotions, OK?"

Seeing the message from Xia Jing, Li Jiayuan took several deep breaths before she felt her mood begin to settle down. She quickly started typing on the keyboard.

"No problem, just tell me quickly! [Beg/Beg]"

"I forgot to tell him when to meet [Embarrassed/Embarrassed], how about I go now and ask if he can meet tomorrow? What do you think?" When Xia Jing was chatting with Xiao Wei, she had managed to persuade him to agree to a meeting, but in her excitement, she forgot to set a time for it.

Upon reading Xia Jing’s message, Li Jiayuan, who had been a bit disappointed, perked up like willow branches in spring, suddenly regaining vitality. She excitedly typed, "Great, great, great, then please help me ask him quickly [Grin/Grin]"

Xia Jing felt speechless at Li Jiayuan’s reply.

Without continuing to reply to Li Jiayuan, Xia Jing went to check Xiao Wei’s messages. Seeing that he was still online, she hurriedly asked, "Xiao Wei, I forgot something. How about setting the time to meet Li Jiayuan tomorrow morning at ten?"

Xiao Wei, seeing that Xia Jing was still contacting him about Li Jiayuan at this late hour, felt that regardless of whether he was willing or not, he couldn’t let down the heartfelt effort Xia Jing had put in for him.

"Elder Sister Xia, it’s whatever you say!"

"Alright, if that’s settled, then let’s meet tomorrow morning at ten at Star Coffee Shop, no absence allowed!"

"Okay."

After replying to Xia Jing, Xiao Wei immediately turned off his computer and lay in bed, thinking about what Xia Jing said to him today. Honestly, what she said hit him hard, but he still didn’t want Li Jiayuan to be gossiped about because of him. Now his mind was in turmoil; he didn’t know whether he should reject Li Jiayuan tomorrow.

After receiving Xiao Wei’s reply, Xia Jing went straight away to send a message to Li Jiayuan.

"There you go, Xiao Wei has agreed to meet tomorrow at ten in the morning at Star Coffee Shop without fail. I can only do so much, the rest of the path you must walk on your own," Xia Jing told Li Jiayuan.

"Alright, I’m already very grateful that you could help me this far, I will do my best for the rest."

"Oh, and Xiao Wei is quite pitiful, if you two get together, please treat him kindly. Don’t be throwing Miss Li temper tantrums at every turn! No matter what Xiao Wei says to you tomorrow, you have to keep chasing him unrelentingly," worried about Xiao Wei, Xia Jing knew what kind of temper Li Jiayuan had. She didn’t want Xiao Wei to end up suffering from Li Jiayuan’s temper tantrums after they got together.

Li Jiayuan felt somewhat unhappy inside upon hearing Xia Jing say that she threw temper tantrums all the time, but after thinking it over, she didn’t say much. She knew that Xia Jing was looking out for Xiao Wei, and she understood that Xia Jing was afraid Xiao Wei would be wronged.

"Don’t worry, I won’t treat him like that, thank you for telling me so much!"

Xia Jing, seeing the message from Li Jiayuan, didn’t reply and just went offline.

Li Jiayuan was thrilled to pieces in her bedroom as she thought, "I can finally see you again, I hope you won’t reject me this time."

Li Jiayuan clasped her hands together and prayed to the heavens, hoping that Xiao Wei wouldn’t reject her.

She drifted off to sleep in a daze and when she woke up the next morning, it was already seven o’clock. She hurriedly climbed out of bed, freshened up, grabbed her backpack, and ran to the coffee shop.

She arrived at the coffee shop right at eight, sitting down in the chair breathlessly and drank two large glasses of water. Glancing at the time, she felt it was still early, so she browsed on her phone until nine o’clock, when Xiao Wei arrived as expected. As he entered the door, he immediately saw Li Jiayuan sitting there alone and walked over to her like a gentleman.

"Sorry, I’m late!" Xiao Wei greeted Li Jiayuan politely.

Upon hearing the voice she had longed for day and night, Li Jiayuan mechanically turned her head to look behind herself and saw the person she had been thinking of. She was excited yet also felt embarrassed, and she stammeredly replied, "It’s okay, I haven’t been here long myself, please sit down!"

"Waiter, two cups of coffee, regular!" they requested in unison, both of them feeling embarrassed as their faces turned red.

"So you drink regular coffee too?" Again, they spoke at the same moment. The coffee-selling waitress chuckled, finding these two to be really in sync, even saying the same things.

The smiling waitress brought the coffees to Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei, and again they both asked simultaneously, "How much is it?"

Both feeling sheepish, the waitress smiled at Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei and said, "You two really are a pair, saying the exact same thing. In all my years, I’ve never seen anyone as in tune as you two. Today these two cups of coffee are on me."

Li Jiayuan laughed awkwardly, but inside she was very pleased because the waitress had referred to her and Xiao Wei as a couple.

After the waitress left, Xiao Wei got straight to the point, "You didn’t ask me out just to have a cup of coffee, did you?"

Li Jiayuan didn’t expect Xiao Wei to be so blunt; she had thought that at the very least, he would share a few warm words with her.

Li Jiayuan was taken aback and answered, "No, of course not, I’ve liked you for a long time, and I was wondering if you could..."

Before Li Jiayuan could finish her sentence, Xiao Wei bluntly said, "Jiayuan, I know what you want to say, and I admit that I indeed like you, but I will not agree to be with you."

Hearing Xiao Wei say this, Li Jiayuan didn’t understand why two people who clearly loved each other couldn’t be together, and she asked back, "Can you tell me why?"

Xiao Wei sighed and said to Li Jiayuan, "Jiayuan, I’ve liked you since the first day I met you and I still do now, but do you realize, our relationship has no future. Elder Sister Xia talked to me a lot yesterday. When I refused to meet you, she pleaded with me to see you, and I agreed because I didn’t want to let her down. I came to meet you, and I know it hurts you to hear me say this, but please forgive me. Rather than having you put up with others’ gossip because of me, I’d prefer not to be with you. I know you don’t mind, but I do; I can’t let your reputation be ruined because of me."

Li Jiayuan countered, "You know full well I don’t care about that, you know my feelings for you, so why are you still rejecting me? If you came here today just to reject me, then why come at all? Do you want to embarrass me on purpose?"

Li Jiayuan asked through her tears.

Seeing Li Jiayuan like this caused Xiao Wei’s heart to ache as if it were being squeezed. He forced himself to say, "I came to explain things to you face to face, otherwise I would not have come to see you!"

Li Jiayuan ran out crying, and as Xiao Wei watched her retreating figure moving away from him, he silently said, "I’m sorry, Jiayuan, forgive my cruelty. You will find someone much better than me; perhaps we’re just not meant to be."
