My Alleged Husband-Chapter 211 - 191 Argument_1
After two phone calls with Xia Jing, Zhang Zhentian felt as though the world had collapsed around her. Her husband was leaving her, her son didn’t recognize her, and for what? Hadn’t it all been for the sake of her son’s safe and happy life? Why were all her actions wrong in their eyes, and why couldn’t her good intentions ever be correctly acknowledged? She couldn’t accept it, couldn’t bear the thought of being discarded by her husband like this. Could the affection forged over more than a decade of marriage really be severed so easily? What did he really consider their relationship to be? Were they just ordinary friends who could effortlessly part ways...
After hanging up the phone, Zhang Zhentian also felt terrible. All he had wanted was a harmonious family life, to live out his days with his son, his father, and the woman he loved. Yet, through a series of missteps, he had abandoned his father and his own son for so many years. How could he possibly abandon them again? He needed to go back, even if they refused to forgive him, even if it meant shamelessly showing up again. At the very least, he would be able to see his son and his father. But this decision would cost him the loss of a wife who had stood by him for many years.
Alone outside, the more Xia Jing thought, the angrier she became. Memories with Zhang Zhentian played in her mind. Why had she ended up with this result? Didn’t she love him enough? She would relinquish anything for him, had returned here forsaking her own freedom, yet why did he fail to see the good in her? Did she have to comply with everything he wanted to truly show her love?
Xia Jing crouched at a street corner outside, sobbing her heart out. After considering for a while, she decided she should call her son. She wanted to ask him why, why he had to do this. Did her son want to drive a wedge between her and her husband?
When Zhang Yichen saw the incoming call from the mother he had lost contact with for over a decade, he was unsure whether to answer, especially remembering how she treated his beloved. Anger surged within him, and he cut the call off. But Xia Jing, undeterred, called again and again until he finally decided to pick up, curious to hear her explanation. But when he heard what his mother said, he realized things weren’t as simple as he had imagined.
"Hello, do you need something? If not, please don’t call me, as your calls only spoil my mood," Zhang Yichen said tersely to his mother. Hearing her son talk to her in such a tone made Xia Jing want to explode with anger, but what right did she have to lash out at Zhang Yichen now?
"If you’re not going to speak, then I’m hanging up. I have things to do. My day isn’t as free as yours..." Zhang Yichen waited but heard no response from Xia Jing, so he continued.
Upon hearing this, Xia Jing grew frantic and blurted out to her son, "Wait, I have something to ask you!"
Zhang Yichen couldn’t fathom what more his mother could possibly want to ask him. Weren’t all their phone calls about the same few issues? Was there now some novel issue she wanted to discuss with him?
"Go ahead, what do you want to ask me?"
"I want to know if you said something to your father. What made him think of divorcing me?"
Zhang Yichen was stunned. What, divorce? What was going on?
"Can you please be clearer? What do you mean ’divorce’?" Zhang Yichen was completely confused. He really didn’t know anything at all. It seemed he hadn’t said anything to his dad; how could his dad suddenly want to divorce Xia Jing?
Xia Jing found it amusing. Since he had done it, why pretend to be clueless?
"Yichen, no matter what, I’m still your mother. How can you do this to me? If you hadn’t said something to your dad, why would he think of divorcing me? Are the love and bonds we shared over these long years so negligible to him? What am I, Xia Jing, worth in his, Zhang Zhentian’s heart? When he needed me years ago, he kept me by his side. Now that he doesn’t need me, finds me in his way, he wants to kick me out with one foot. Do you think that’s possible?" Xia Jing said.
Zhang Yichen was angry. He had only told Zhang Zhentian about Ran Zhihan; he hadn’t said anything else. And he certainly hadn’t asked his father to divorce his mother. Why were all these faults being laid on him now?
"I’m begging you to get your facts straight. Is it because of something you’ve done that your husband is thinking of divorcing you?" Zhang Yichen said to Xia Jing.
It was absolutely beyond Xia Jing’s expectation that her own son would refer to his biological father as "your husband." This was hard for her to accept!
"Yichen, what do you mean ’your husband’? He is your dad, your biological dad. Is this how you refer to your father? Moreover, we have been back for so long. Have you ever called us mom and dad? Is this what a son should do? Tell me, what exactly did you say to your dad? Don’t tell me you said nothing. If you really hadn’t said or done anything, Zhang Zhentian would have never brought up the divorce..." Xia Jing insisted.
Zhang Yichen knew that he could no longer hide anything, so he chose to be direct and clear to Xia Jing about what he had done, to let his nominal mother understand what he had done.
"Fine, since you really want to know, I’ll tell you. Do you not know what you have done yourself? How did you threaten my girlfriend? And how did you force her to leave me? Have you forgotten all that? I hope you remember everything you’ve done for the rest of your life, or else who am I supposed to hold accountable? I really do see it clearly now. I understand what it must have felt like for my dad to live with someone like you for so many years. It must have been agony!" Zhang Yichen said to Xia Jing.
"So, it really was you who did something. Are you really my biological son? How can you do this to your mom? Was it just a threat to that girl? What’s so good about her? She has nothing; no money, no house, no car, and she hasn’t even completed her education. What makes her worthy of you? We did all this for your own good. Why must you be so stubborn and stay with that girl? What good does that do you? She doesn’t even look good. Listen to mom. I made her leave you so I could find a rich girl to be by your side, to bear and raise your children. Wouldn’t that be better? Being with someone of equal social status won’t make you look inferior," Xia Jing said excitedly to Zhang Yichen, completely ignoring what her son was saying to her. She was totally absorbed in her world. She thought, as long as she drove Ran Zhihan ruthlessly away from her son, her son’s future would surely shine. She couldn’t bear the thought of her son ruining the empire built with hard work over a girl, especially one who was just a commoner’s daughter, a girl with nothing.
