Chapter 113: Chapter 101 Sincere Apology_2

Rumble... Rumble... As Zhang Zhentian finished shouting at the rooftop, a sudden thunderclap roared, startling him. He had no idea what unforgivable mistake he’d made for thunder to strike on a clear day. Xia Jing, who had been in deep sleep, was jolted awake by the thunder. She thought it was raining outside, so without much thought, she went back to sleep.

Around noon, Xia Jing got up. She stretched and felt that her sleep had been incredibly relaxing. It had been a long time since she had slept so well.

Xia Jing was now happy, but Zhang Zhentian wasn’t so lucky. He felt that it must be because he had mistreated Xia Jing not once, but repeatedly, and even the heavens could not stand it, which was why there was thunder on a clear day. Seeing Xia Jing awake, he hurried over and asked, "Dear, are you hungry? What do you want to eat? Tell me, and your husband will go cook for you!"

Xia Jing was utterly confused by Zhang Zhentian’s abnormal behavior. She reached out and touched his forehead.

Zhang Zhentian didn’t understand what Xia Jing was doing, and he asked her, "Dear, what are you doing?"

"I checked to see if the sun rose from the west today, so I wanted to feel your forehead to see if you’ve got a fever and are out of your mind!" Xia Jing said bluntly to Zhang Zhentian.

Zhang Zhentian gave Xia Jing a roll of his eyes and said, "Am I really acting that out of character today?"

"Yes, you are. For over a month, you’ve never spoken to me with this much tenderness. Come on, spit it out. What’s your agenda?" Xia Jing suspected that Zhang Zhentian’s sudden kindness had a motive behind it, and she wasn’t about to accept his niceness so easily, or it might cost her later.

"I have no ulterior motive, I just genuinely wanted to make you something to eat. You’ve been asleep so long; you must be hungry, right?" Zhang Zhentian said with a grin to Xia Jing.

Xia Jing somehow felt that Zhang Zhentian’s grin wasn’t a harbinger of anything good. She glanced at him and said, "When someone’s overly eager to help, it’s either a plot or theft! So just spit it out; I’ll help you if I can, alright?"

"Xia Jing, why are you like this? I told you, I don’t have any other intent. I truly just wanted to cook for you. I know I was in the wrong before and hope you don’t take it to heart. Can you forgive me, please?" Zhang Zhentian was getting desperate. No matter what he said, Xia Jing seemed not to believe him, which made him start to doubt his own credibility.

"Don’t take it to heart? But I already have. What do you suggest we do?" Xia Jing asked with a twinkle in her eyes. This question stumped Zhang Zhentian, as he had no idea how to respond. The words had just slipped out without considering that Xia Jing might turn the tables on him!

"What’s the matter? Can’t come up with an answer? If that’s the case, why should I forgive you?" Xia Jing was resolute. She was going to show Zhang Zhentian today that she wasn’t a pushover, not someone others could easily manipulate!

"Dear, you’ve got me all wrong. I really just wanted to cook a meal for you to express my apology and hope you can forgive me!" Zhang Zhentian said, grabbing Xia Jing’s hand.

"Are you truly apologizing, or just putting on a show for me?" Xia Jing removed Zhang Zhentian’s hand with a forced smile.

"Dear, I am sincerely apologizing, not just putting on an act. I genuinely realize my mistake. Please forgive me!" Zhang Zhentian said, blinking his eyes as he spoke.

Xia Jing knew what Zhang Zhentian was up to and quickly said, "Don’t pull that trick on me. If you have something to say, say it properly. Your sincerity? I think you’re just heartily trying to annoy me!"

"No, no, I truly didn’t mean that. As long as you forgive me, whatever you say goes from now on. Isn’t that good enough?"

Xia Jing thought this was an interesting proposition. She asked Zhang Zhentian, "Does that mean from now on you’ll do whatever I ask you to?"

When Zhang Zhentian heard Xia Jing ask this, he felt he had a chance. He quickly nodded at her, saying, "Exactly, as long as you forgive me, I’ll do anything you ask!"

"Ah, suddenly I don’t feel comfortable sleeping in your room; the guest room feels much better..." Xia Jing pretended to be distressed as she spoke to Zhang Zhentian.

"No problem, then from now on we’ll both sleep in the guest room!" Zhang Zhentian understood what Xia Jing meant. She was testing to see if he truly meant what he said.

"But I don’t feel comfortable sleeping in the same room with someone else..."

"That’s easy, you sleep on the bed and I’ll sleep on the floor!"

Xia Jing couldn’t believe Zhang Zhentian would go this far. She continued to press him, saying, "Ah, having you around makes me feel uneasy when I sleep..."

Zhang Zhentian got her drift and replied, "No problem, then you sleep inside and I’ll sleep outside the door!"

"Ah, I’ve slept all day, and I haven’t eaten anything yet. I’m feeling quite hungry!" Xia Jing exclaimed with a sigh.

Upon hearing this, Zhang Zhentian turned towards the kitchen and said to Xia Jing, "Just wait, I’ll cook something delicious for you, a meal made with love!"

Xia Jing didn’t say anything further. Watching Zhang Zhentian bustling in the kitchen, she muttered to herself, "If only you had realized this sooner, why put us through it all in the first place?"
