Chapter 1015: Chapter 892: Speak the Truth_9

Old Master Zhang’s expectations were dashed again. He said calmly, "Yes, that did happen. You weren’t at the company then."

"So Xia Jing really went to the company. Did she go to say goodbye, or was she going there to reconcile with me?" I muttered to myself.

Old Master Zhang heard Zhang Zhentian muttering to himself and couldn’t help but ask, "Zhentian, what are you mumbling about there?"

I snapped back to reality and said, "Dad, did Xia Jing come looking for me that day?"

I looked at my father hopefully, wanting him to say "yes," yet also dreading hearing a "yes."

My father found it difficult to answer my question. He knew exactly what his son was thinking. If he said "yes," he would regret missing the only chance to persuade Xia Jing to stay. But if he said "no," he would feel sad, believing it was his fault that led Xia Jing to leave without a word. It was truly a dilemma. What should he say?

I stared blankly at my hesitant father, anxiously rushing over to grip Old Master Zhang’s shoulders, shaking him constantly and asking, "Is it true? Please tell me it’s true!"

Old Master Zhang looked at me as if I’d gone mad, not knowing how to respond.

"Dad, please tell me, did Xia Jing come to the company to find me?" I insisted on pressing my father.

"Zhentian, let go of me for a moment, you’re dizzying me. Alright, alright, I’ll tell you." Old Master Zhang’s head was spinning from my shaking, so he had to ask me to loosen my grip.

Upon hearing my father say he would tell me, I immediately released my hold, urging Old Master Zhang repeatedly, "Please hurry, please hurry."

Old Master Zhang unceremoniously yelled at me, "Why are you in such a rush? You’ve made me dizzy. At least give me a moment to gather myself!"

I realized he was right. I offered enthusiastically, "Alright, alright, Dad, take your time. I’ll get you a glass of water."

"That’s more like it!" Old Master Zhang remained the same, wanting to enjoy being attended to by his son.

In a hurry, I sped towards the kettle, quickly poured a cup of water, and brought it to Old Master Zhang.

Old Master Zhang took the cup I handed him and drank a sip. He immediately regretted it. The hot water burned his tongue, and he looked up at me, yelling in anger, "What are you trying to do? Do you intend to scald me?"

I apologized to Old Master Zhang, saying, "Dad, I’m sorry. I forgot to tell you that the water was freshly boiled, so I didn’t cool it down first."

Old Master Zhang was furious and stood, ready to go upstairs, but I grabbed him.

"Dad, you haven’t told me yet. About Xia Jing that day..."

Before I could finish, Old Master Zhang interrupted me.

"No need to say anything. You need something from me and still act like this? Even if you had nothing to ask of me, I’m still your father who gave life to you. You shouldn’t scald me with boiling water." Old Master Zhang turned and walked away.

I watched Old Master Zhang’s departing figure and shouted at him, "Dad, can’t you empathize with me a little? I’m Xia Jing’s boyfriend, she’s gone abroad, and I can’t contact her. Shouldn’t I be worried as her boyfriend?"

My words only fueled Old Master Zhang’s anger further.

Upon hearing what I said, Old Master Zhang couldn’t help but turn back and admonish me, "You can’t contact her as her boyfriend, and you’re worried. But I’ve raised you for so many years, and you use boiling water to scald me because of her? Is this how a child should behave?"

I was left speechless by Old Master Zhang’s words. Looking at my silence, he continued, "You would defy your father for a woman; you would risk everything for her. I understand all that, because I am your father. But your actions today truly disappoint me. Are you so absent-minded that you forget to tell me boiling water is freshly boiled? Do you still have me, your father, in your heart?"
