Chapter 1013: Chapter 892 Speak the Truth_7

Old Master Zhang knew I couldn’t hold back any longer, so he didn’t say anything else and just waved me out. As soon as I left the study, I ran downstairs at a speed that was almost like flying.

That day, I drove straight to Xia Jing’s house, but when I arrived, I found it empty, so I went to ask the landlord.

"Hello, can I ask where the girl who rented your apartment went?" 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"You’re talking about Xia Jing, right?" the landlord asked me.

Hearing the landlord still remembered Xia Jing’s name, I quickly nodded.

"Yes, yes, that’s her, Xia Jing. Do you know where she went? I haven’t been able to reach her for days." I said excitedly to the landlord.

"I don’t know exactly where she is, but it seems like she’s gone abroad." The landlord’s words were an absolute shock to me. I didn’t utter a word for quite a while. The landlord waved a hand in front of me, snapping me back to reality. I asked the landlord again.

"Do you know when she left?"

"Seems like about a week ago. By now, she should have already reached her destination."

"Did she leave any message for you?" I asked again.

"She looked very upset when she left, her eyes were red, clearly had been crying." The landlord sighed as they told me.

After hearing the landlord’s words, I knew that I must have broken Xia Jing’s heart, which is why she left without saying goodbye. I said to the landlord, "Thank you!"

The landlord turned and started to leave, but after a few steps, turned back and said to me, "I suddenly remember that Xia Jing seemed to have gone to your company to look for you that day."

"When was that?"

"Probably the day she left."

I recalled that on the day Xia Jing left, I stayed home and didn’t go out. Could it be that Xia Jing went to the company to tell me she was going abroad? If that’s the case, then Xia Jing didn’t leave without saying goodbye; it was me who missed the only chance to persuade her to stay.

The more I thought about it, the worse I felt. I was full of regret for quarreling with Xia Jing and for saying so many hurtful things. At that moment, I wondered, "If I hadn’t argued with Xia Jing, would she not have left? If I hadn’t said those hurtful things, would Xia Jing not have left heartbroken?"

Feeling dejected, I left Xia Jing’s place and drove to the lakeside. I kept the car’s speed high as I raced along. Once at the lake, I parked the car and walked to the edge, gazing at the endless blue sky while reminiscing about all the moments spent with Xia Jing there. As I thought about it, a tear trickled down my cheek, and I cried, feeling the sharp pain in my heart. Half an hour later, I yelled at the vast expanse of the lake, "Xia Jing, I know I was wrong. Please come back! I shouldn’t have made you sad. Don’t leave me alone, come back!" I shouted again and again, hoping that by calling out loudly to the lake, Xia Jing would appear before me just like before.

I called for a long time, but there was no sign of Xia Jing. I had to accept that this time Xia Jing had truly left me.

When I got home, I shut myself in my room. Even when Aunt Xu called me down for dinner, I didn’t eat. I sat blankly by the bedroom window, drinking bottle after bottle of liquor. As I drank myself into a state where I could barely stand, I pulled up a chair to sit by the window and continued drinking, shot after shot, bottle after bottle, until I drank myself into a stupor.

That night, even in my sleep, I murmured Xia Jing’s name. Old Master Zhang walked in and, seeing his son like this, couldn’t help but feel a little sad. He came over and gently draped a blanket over me. I grabbed Old Master Zhang’s hand, mumbling, "I’m sorry, Xia Jing, I didn’t mean to say those things to upset you. I know I was wrong. Please don’t leave me..." As I spoke, tears began to flow. Seeing me like this, Old Master Zhang was also quite conflicted. He wanted to tell his son where Xia Jing was, but he had promised to keep it a secret for her. In the end, Old Master Zhang decided to wait until I asked him directly to say anything.
