Chapter 81 - 81: Operations in Chisato

"Alright, none of that has anything to do with the mission. Just get to work, Mr. Coulson. I want to wrap this up as fast as possible—Brother Xiu Yu's orders."

Uchiha Chisato was growing impatient. She noticed Coulson giving her a strange look—sympathetic, almost pitying—and it rubbed her the wrong way.

What's with that look? Sympathy? What the hell is he sympathizing with?

Coulson cleared his throat and opened the door. "Be careful. The body's right by the entrance. Try not to freak out."

Chisato ignored him and immediately knelt beside the corpse to begin her examination. The victim was a white woman. Her face looked peaceful, and the room showed only minor signs of a struggle. She wore a revealing pajama set—either she didn't have time to react, or she knew her attacker.

Two small puncture wounds marked her neck—like she'd been bitten with sharp canine teeth. Beneath the punctures were faint impressions of teeth. It matched what Brother Xiu Yu described: a so-called vampire attack.

"Cause of death—blood loss?" Chisato asked, not looking up.

"Yeah. Exsanguination. No significant signs of a fight. The NYPD already interviewed those close to her. We're assisting them for efficiency, but based on the evidence, it seems the perp wasn't anyone familiar. Probably a drifter," Coulson explained with a hint of frustration. Cases like this weren't his usual gig, and it showed.

"So after all that, you've got nothing?"

"Not nothing. We've narrowed it down to three suspects. We're planning to check them out now."

"And how exactly did you narrow it down?" Chisato raised an eyebrow. The whole thing seemed too simple—just another homicide. Still, this was her assignment from Xiu Yu, so she had to do it right.

"We reviewed surveillance footage, pulled everyone who was seen near the scene in the past two days, and started investigating them one by one," Coulson admitted, scratching his head with an awkward grin. "Yeah, I know. It's crude, just a wide-net strategy. We didn't have much else to go on."

Chisato sighed. "No wonder you threw this to someone else. You're stumped."

Coulson winced. It stung being called out by a kid, even one as sharp as Chisato.

"Let's go check out the last suspect," she said flatly. The first two had already been ruled out. That left one. If this last guy didn't pan out, the case would be dead in the water for now.

Outside the final suspect's apartment, Coulson knocked firmly. "FBI. Open up for a check." He showed his badge. You didn't mess around in America—too many people ready to shoot first and ask questions later.

The door creaked open. A plain-looking white man stood inside. "What's this about? I haven't done anything. Why the knock like I'm a criminal?"

Through the open door, the apartment's interior was visible. It was barren. Few furnishings. Sparse decor. NYPD's previous notes said the guy lived alone and never brought women home. Neighbors suspected he was gay—something not illegal, of course—but it contributed to his social isolation.

"We're just conducting routine inquiries," Coulson said, flashing his FBI ID. "Mind if we come in?"

The man shrugged. "Go ahead, but you don't have a warrant. Also, bringing a kid along? I'm reporting that." He shot a skeptical glance at Chisato, clearly assuming she was Coulson's niece or something.

"Take him down, Coulson. He's the guy," Chisato said suddenly. Her voice was cold and certain.

Coulson didn't hesitate. He drew his gun and leveled it. "Hands in the air! Get on the ground—now! Keep your hands where I can see them!"

He trusted Chisato's instincts. If she called it, she had a reason.

The man slowly raised his hands and turned around—smiling.

"Watch out!"

Bang!

Coulson fired—but missed. The man moved like a blur, shadow-like, and reappeared behind Chisato with a silver Glock pressed to her temple.

"Back off, Agent. If you want the girl alive, drop your weapon," he sneered, grinning wickedly.

"I don't know how you figured me out, but it's a shame there's only two of you. If it had been a dozen, maybe I'd have felt cautious."

Coulson's mind raced. He didn't know how the guy had pulled that move, but he wasn't about to risk Chisato'@ life. He slowly tossed his gun aside.

I've got a bulletproof vest. If I'm careful, I can take a shot. Just need the right moment.

If Chisato hadn't been the hostage, Coulson might've tried something riskier. But agents weren't expendable—not to him.

"Shut it!"

Chisato suddenly grabbed the man's wrist and flipped him with a perfect over-the-shoulder throw. The man's world spun as he slammed into the floor with a loud thud.

"Nice one, Chisato!" Coulson shouted, pulling out his backup piece and firing twice, hitting the man squarely in both legs.

But the suspect didn't stay down.

He rolled, snarled, and snatched the pistol from Coulson's hand, kicking him away at the same time.

"Get down!" Coulson screamed.

"Die!" the man roared. His mouth opened wide, revealing sharp, gleaming fangs.

He fired—but the girl was no longer there.

Instead, a thin arm slammed down on him like a hammer, pinning him to the ground with a thunderous crash.

Chisato had vanished from sight, only to reappear with terrifying speed and force.

She hadn't expected him to be this tough. Clearly, he could take a hit, which meant she didn't need to hold back.

From her pouch, she drew four shurikens and hurled them with deadly precision. Each one sank into the man's limbs, pinning him to the wooden floor.

-------------------

"Ah!"

Four shurikens pierced straight through the guy's limbs, pinning him flat against the ground.

"Let me go! Do you have any idea who I am? I'm a noble vampire!"

Of course he was. Just as Xiu Yu expected.

"Shut it," Chisato snapped, her tone ice-cold. "Keep screaming and I'll make sure you can't anymore."

She had no sympathy for this loudmouth. Honestly, if he didn't hold valuable information, she'd have taken him out on the spot.

Coulson arrived late, still catching his breath. "What's his name?" he asked.

"Liam," the guy growled.

Coulson nodded grimly. "Liam, you're under arrest for your connection to multiple murders."

"Let me go!" Liam roared again, fangs bared in a feral snarl. He writhed under the shuriken, muscles straining. If they hadn't been nailed in so tight, he might've broken free.

"What the hell are you?" Coulson muttered in disbelief. The guy was still thrashing like an animal even with all four limbs pinned.

"I told you," Liam growled. "I'm a noble vampire. Not some monster—"

"Ah!"

Before he could finish, Uchiha Chisato plunged her kunai twice into his abdomen.

Coulson instinctively stepped back, a chill running down his spine. Damn... she might've just ruined both his kidneys.

"Shut up," Chisato said coldly. "We're the one asking questions here."

"You killed that woman, didn't you?"

"Yes! Yes, I did!" Liam cried. "I just sucked her blood, that's all!"

The way Chisato stared at him—calm, unblinking—scared the hell out of him. Despite her small size, she was terrifyingly efficient. The kind of efficient that made you fear for your life.

"Were you the one behind all the recent attacks on women?"

"No! Not all of them! I swear! I'm just a new vampire. I still can't control my urges, but I don't need that much blood!"

Coulson stood off to the side, still reeling. Vampires? Really? First aliens, now vampires? What the hell was going on this year?

Weren't vampires just some fictional trope? Some unscientific myth? Yet here one was, pinned to the pavement, bleeding but still very much alive.

And then there was Chisato or rather, Uchiha Chisato. How the hell was she so good at this? That was military-level interrogation—no, torture—and she'd pulled it off with smooth, practiced precision.

"Take me to your hideout," Chisato ordered flatly. "Where you vamps gather. Tonight."

"Sure, fine, whatever you want!" Liam gasped. "Can you just... put the knife away?"

"We'll talk tonight. For now, keep your mouth shut. I hate noise."

Coulson hesitated before asking, "Uh, is he gonna bleed out like that?"

"He'll live," Chisato said coolly. "Vampires aren't human. Stronger bodies, faster healing. I avoided the vital points... well, human ones, anyway. No clue if vampires are built the same, but I was careful."

Liam didn't dare open his mouth again. Now that the adrenaline had faded, he realized just how utterly outmatched he was. He hadn't even seen her move. One second he was standing, the next he was on the ground with a kunai in his gut.

Thank god they were law enforcement. Otherwise, he'd be missing his head by now.

As for his secret getting out? Honestly, Liam wasn't too worried. Eternal youth and supernatural power—people would want what he had. There were always politicians protecting vampires behind the scenes. Sure, he broke a few rules, but there was still hope for redemption.

With Chisato though? He wasn't so sure. She didn't seem the type to give second chances.

"Chi," Coulson began carefully, "you're... really good at this. Have you done this kind of thing before?"

"Call me Uchiha Chisato," she corrected. "And I'm just doing the job you asked me to do."

She stared at him, completely emotionless.

"Torture's not exactly a rare skill where I come from. In the Uchiha clan, we specialize in it. It's a bloodline advantage."

Coulson blinked. Bloodline advantage? What kind of twisted genetics did she have? He'd never even heard of Sharingan or the Uchiha before all this. None of it made sense—yet she was clearly more effective than half his damn unit.

He wisely chose not to push her any further.

Despite her size, she could manhandle a vampire like it was nothing. Coulson was no weakling, but that same vampire could've probably snapped his spine in two. Yet in Chisato's hands, the guy was trembling.

Chisato sat quietly now, waiting. Coulson crouched down next to Liam to continue the questioning.

"So, you're a new vampire, right? How did that happen?"

Liam grimaced. "You only become a vampire through the First Embrace. It's a ritual. The old ones suck your blood and transform you using their fangs. That's how it works."

"So... you used to be human?"

"Of course I did! I was human just a few weeks ago. I fell down the stairs and nearly died. Then this vampire found me. He saved me by turning me. That's it."

Liam wasn't holding anything back—not because he wanted to be helpful, but because he didn't know jack. As a newbie vamp, he was still clueless about their deeper secrets.

Coulson leaned in. "And how do you feel? Being a vampire now?"

Liam's eyes gleamed with pride. "I feel superior. Stronger, faster—I've evolved. I'm not weak like before. Humans are frail. We're better than them now. Hahaha!"

He let out a cackling laugh, full of twisted satisfaction.

"I'm not even sure Captain America could beat me in a fight!"

Coulson's expression turned stone cold.

"Did you seriously just compare yourself to Captain America?" he said, his voice low with restrained anger.

"Come on, man. You think I'm gonna go around fighting Nazis like some fossil? That's not my thing. But physically, I've got the edge. And I'm just a rookie! The elders? They're way stronger than me."

Coulson bit back a response. Liam might've been delusional, but he clearly wasn't lying. Still, comparing himself to Cap? That was pushing it.

Chisato suddenly stood. Her glare was enough to make Liam flinch.

"Enough. Shut up."

Her voice was sharp, final.

Liam's entire body tensed. He shut his mouth instantly.

Coulson raised an eyebrow. "Funny... you talk a lot about being powerful, but you're terrified of this girl."

"You—!" Liam started to say, but caught himself.

Because he was right.

Uchiha Chisato scared him more than any hunter, any vampire elder, or any human authority.
