MTL - Exploiting Hollywood 1980-Chapter 864 full marketing public relations
Chapter 864 Full Marketing PR
"Hello, Cher, I'm glad you accepted our interview."
The host of the morning news program "Good Day!" of the ABC TV network in Boston, the 1966 Miss America Eileen Prose is interviewing Cher in New York via a communication satellite.
This program is the ace program of the Boston ABC branch, and it is broadcast on syndicated stars across the United States.
The marketing budget invested by the producers MGM and Ronald is not very high, so they did not win the broadcast opportunity of "Good Morning America" with the highest ratings, but found the second most popular morning news category The show, gave Cher a public relations interview to promote the film and her acting skills.
"Nice to meet you, Erin." Cher in the studio in New York, and she started a satellite connection.
"Moonlight has not been released in Boston yet, and I heard that day will come soon." The host Irene hadn't seen the movie yet, but the public relations company approached her, and the producer ordered her to follow the usual movie schedule. Interview Lu Shu and ask questions to the air:
"Can you take a step back now and look at the heroine of the movie Loretta objectively? Treat her as a completely different person from yourself."
The basic skills of the host, Irene, are very good. She finished the difficult question fluently. Obviously, the purpose of this question is to bring up the topic of Cher's acting skills.
"Oh, of course. I made this movie a long time ago, and time has given me a new perspective. I have watched this movie several times recently, and I can see the heroine Loretta from an objective perspective."
Xueer squinted her eyes, trying to see the teleprompter behind the camera clearly, but squinting would make the wrinkles more obvious, so Xueer immediately gave up. The teleprompter was shrouded in the harsh light behind the camera, and Xueer still couldn't see the answer clearly, so she had to try her best to adjust her sitting posture.
"Do you like her?" The host Erin asked.
"Oh...yeah, I love the Loretta character, it's interesting, I'm in this...uh...can't see myself...but...well, she's a good character."
Xue'er adjusted for a long time but couldn't find a non-reflective angle to see the answer clearly, so she had to play freely by herself.
“I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I want to wait until it’s released in Boston. I’ll definitely go see it. How different is that character from you, hahaha…”
Irene saw that there was something wrong with the New York studio, and Xue Er hesitated to answer. She gave full play to her experience as a senior host and began to make up out of nothing, "Then before you acted in this movie, how did you do it for Luo Lei? What about the role of Tower doing research?"
"Ah... um... Of course I do research..." Xueer has seen countless big scenes, and even if she forgot the lyrics at the concert, she can get away with it. It is not difficult for her to see the answer clearly in this kind of interview.
"But this kind of research is not like a doctor or a professor.... Um, you know... I have to go to the crew in advance and try to blend in with other actors... Um... After a long time, it is equivalent to doing research."
"Puchi...huh...um"
The two beauties chatted awkwardly for five minutes on the morning news talk show. The cameraman next to them thought it was a bit funny, but it was not easy to laugh during the live broadcast, so they had to hold back.
"What did your mother think of your collaboration with Olympia Dukakis in the film, and what did she think of your mother-daughter relationship with Dukakis on screen?"
"Ah, that was my mother's favorite movie I acted in, of course she didn't say anything about me and Olympia in particular. She loved the whole movie."
"Are you happy working with Dukakis? You know, in Boston and Massachusetts, Dukakis is our topic here, and we all love her hometown."
"Ah, yes, very good. When she first came to the crew, director Ronald specially introduced that I look a bit like her, so it's very suitable to play mother and daughter. I get along very well with her on the crew, she is a Very good actor…”
…
"Xue'er's acting skills are still good. She had a big fight with Dukakis on the set." Ronald watched the live TV broadcast in the apartment. Said to Diane beside him.
Diane put his arms around Ronald, tomorrow he will fly to New York to prepare for another premiere there, it would be sweet to cling to him and stay with him for a while longer, Diane raised her head and asked , "Why are they arguing?"
"Do you want to respect my director's guidance on her acting skills, hahaha..." Ronald recalled the conflict between Cher and Dukaski at that time. Dukakis and other Broadway actors respected their directorship very much, and tried to act in the direction directed by Ronald.
And Xue Er is a star, she thinks that Ronald's direction is wrong, she will point it out on the spot, and then express her opinion. In the last breakfast round table scene, the two really got angry and accused each other.
But in this way, it was accidentally outside the scene, which opened up the emotional state of the actor himself and the plot. After Ronald found out, he immediately rushed to shoot, and he succeeded in filming the most difficult table scene in one fell swoop.
"You mentioned Director Ronald, will he direct your acting? We all know you have a reputation for being tough, like Hollywood's past star Bette Davis, do you think you can listen to Ronald's acting direction ?” The host Irene was feeling bored, and when she heard Xueer’s answer, she improvised.
Bette Davis is a well-known troubled star, often in conflict with the director on the set.
"On the set, did she listen to you?" Diane became interested and poked Ronald's waist with his hand.
"Look at what she said, I actually don't directly guide actors on the set," Ronald said with a smile. This kind of interview is a gimmick, and Xueer can't talk about it in depth.
My own directing style is to respect the actors and give guidance in the general direction. For specific performances, I still let the actors devote themselves to their performances. Ronald is not like Hitchcock or Stanley Kubrick. , to specify specific acting methods for the actors.
Ronald was deeply influenced by Roger Coleman in terms of director style, and later he was deeply influenced by Coppola, Jonathan Demme, Martin Scorsese and others who came from the same school. The way is to let the actors play actively.
"Well, it depends on your definition of a director. If you ask Ronald, or other directors I have worked with, they would all like to work with me...but..." Xueer did not expect the host to be present I started talking and thinking about new questions.
"But I have my own acting method...I don't like being told how to act, but I like to talk about acting with others..."
"Hey, it seems she doesn't listen to you very much." Diane continued to tickle Ronald's waist.
"Hahaha, you don't understand, the best director has to do this, and the actors have to feel that they made their own decisions." Ronald began to boast proudly. In fact, there are not too many directors in Hollywood who can let Cher perform at a level.
"Hmmmmm..."
It was rare for him and Diane to have some alone free time, and Ronald didn't want to waste it.
Soon, the two of them held hands together, and their wet lips approached and stuck together. The wet feeling made both of them start to close their eyes...
…
"An actor like Xue'er can control it, and let her perform according to the framework. In the final table scene, she can perform unexpectedly. I didn't expect that Ronald's ability to control the star has already So good."
The president of 20th Century Fox, Goldberg, also arrived at the office early, and was also watching the live broadcast of "Good Day". This paragraph of Xueer's question and answer about Ronald's director level made Goldberg look at him with admiration.
As a president who has been in the film and television industry for many years and has come from the grassroots all the way, he is very clear about how difficult it is to deal with top stars.
Ronald is able to control Cher's performance, no matter what method he uses to do it, it is a clear sign that the director's level has begun to enter a high level.
"Linda, you can bring me all the film reviews I asked you to collect about 'Moonlight'", Goldberg called his secretary Linda.
"Here are the film reviews of two newspapers in Chicago, and I put them on top. The video tape is yesterday's TV program where Albert and Sisker sharply commented on this week's new film." Linda moved a large frame of newspapers, and several video tapes Come in, and gently bring us on.
Goldberg first picked up the "Chicago Sun" and turned to the film review page.
When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie — that's love.
-
Dean Martin
Roger Ebert began his review of "Moonlight" with the lyrics of the opening sung by Dean Martin:
The most captivating quality of "Moonlight Sultry", and also the most difficult to describe, is the tone of the film.
Reviews of this movie tend to make it sound like a crazy comedy about a people, and it is. But there's more to it here, a certain bittersweet longing, an unspeakable romance on display, and a certain magical quality reflected in the film's title.
The film stars Cher, who plays an Italian-American widow in her 30s, but she's not the only one in the film whose **** and love are aroused by moonlight.
For example, on a moonlit night when her bright, cynical mother (Olympia Dukakis) is out to dinner alone, she encounters a middle-aged college professor (John Mahoney) who specializes in seducing his young students , but he found a certain undeniable attraction in this mature woman.
Cher's father (Vincent Gardenia) has been involved in a secretive and sweet affair for years with a mature, disillusioned Anita Gillette.
At the center of the story, Cher discovers startlingly that she is still capable of love in middle age.
The film opens with her engagement to Mr. Johnny Cammarelli (Danny Aiello), not so much out of love as out of boredom of living as a widow.
But after he flies to Sicily to be with his dying mother, she goes to her fiancé's estranged brother Ronnie (Nicolas Cage) and asks him to attend their wedding. She was taken aback when they were almost immediately drawn together by each other's thoughts.
"Moonlight" is directed by Ronald Lee and written by John Patrick Shanley, and one of their achievements is to make the film resonate with all Americans.
This is a group comedy, and a lot of the laughs come from the immigrant family feel that Ronald and Shanley create.
There are small, hilarious moments, like Dukakis' resentment at her ancient father-in-law (Fyodor Chaliapin), who lives upstairs with his dog. During the family dinner, she got mad at her father-in-law and said, old man, give your dog another bite of my food and I'll kick you to death!
When Cher's absent fiancé hovers by his mother's hospital bed, Cher and Cage become even more desperately passionate, and Cher learns the secret to the feud between the two brothers. One day, Johnny made Ronnie look in the wrong direction at the wrong time, and his hand was cut off by a toaster. Now, he wears a prosthetic hand and harbors an unforgivable grudge.
Grudges, old wounds, and resentment toward family members are everywhere in this film.
For example, a mother knows that her husband is having an affair. She asked from the bottom of her heart why this happened, and a friend replied: "Because he was afraid of death".
She understood it all at once. But does that make her sympathize with her husband? Hard to say. One night, he came home. She asked where he had been. He replied, "I haven't been anywhere." She told him she wanted him to know one thing: "No matter where you go or what you do, you're going to die."
Some of these moments are so intense that we're reminded of the brilliant opening scene of Saturday Night Fever (and that movie's mother, Julie Boissaau, appears here as an aunt).
But all passion is drained by the influence of the Moon, which fascinates these people and protects them from their weaknesses of character.
Ronald is impressive, and he seems to capture some of the same qualities of Ingmar Bergman's "Summer Night's Smile," a movie in which the moon itself conspires with people to bring them happiness.
The film is filled with great performances—Cher has never been more entertaining; Dukakis plays her mother, whose love runs as deep as their anger. In the warmth and charm of family, love, and round light, and in its laughs, we find the best comedy in a long time.
Strongly recommend four stars!
…
Goldberg put down the film review, and Albert praised the film, which doesn't seem like the kind of perfunctory article that should be paid for the benefits received.
Maybe he really liked this movie, so he started to drop his book bag, and wrote the name of Ronald and the famous Swedish director, film critics' favorite director Ingmar Bergman, into the film review.
Goldberg put the video tape into the machine, and Albert and Sisko's weekly film review recommendation program began to appear on the TV screen.
"Our movie recommendation of the week is 'Moonlight', which was released as a romance, but is actually one of the funniest movies in quite a while.
Cher is the titular star of this film, a brilliant ensemble film about a group of tough Italians living in New York. How tough? Fuck you is said more often than hello.
Cher plays a widow who immediately falls in love with the younger brother of the man she just agreed to marry. Meanwhile, her mother wonders why her own husband keeps having affairs with almost every other man she knows.
You won't easily forget that this R-rated, yet incredibly family-friendly flick from writer John Patrick Shanley and directed by Ronald Lee.
Both of us give thumbs up…
For new weekly releases below, we recommend 'Good Morning, Vietnam' starring Robin Williams…”
…
"Is it really that good?" Goldberg looked at the movie reviews and fell into deep thought.
For a president who is in charge of seven major studios, he undoubtedly knows that film critics are actually their own people in the industry. They take money to do things and have become a part of the film industry. Their words fluctuate greatly, and good and bad reviews may not necessarily reflect the real situation of the movie...
But the situation where all the film critics say good things is indeed not Ronald's medium-budget production, and MGM does not have the public relations effect that a movie that spends money on marketing can do.
If what Xueer said about Ronald's directing skills on TV and the praise of Ronald and screenwriter Shanley in the film critics are true, or 80% true, then my new film, You can definitely send him the script to read...
Anyway, director Mike Nichols is thinking too much now. He is not satisfied with Fox's proposed actor candidate. When the two sides are at a stalemate, Nichols has suspended negotiations on the pretext of preparing his own wedding.
Inviting Ronald to come might be a good move instead.
"Linda, book a ticket for me. I'm going to watch the movie Moonlight Sultry." Goldberg called the secretary again.
"Also, prepare yourself, send the copy of that script to Director Ronald, and attach a letter saying that I will ask him to have a look..."
