Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 821: Neither Close Nor Distant
Norman Sutton drank half a glass of wine in one gulp and bluntly said to Faye Xavier, "You’re just talking nonsense."
Faye Xavier clicked his tongue and asked, "I’ve explained it this much, and you still don’t get it?"
Norman Sutton: "Just say it straightforwardly, why beat around the bush?"
Faye Xavier: "Well, think about it from another perspective. If there’s a girl you’re not really into, hovering around you every day like a persistent ghost, wouldn’t you find her as annoying as a pesky fly that you just want to smack away?"
Norman Sutton furrowed his brows and carefully pondered over Faye Xavier’s words. So, in Lana Holloway’s eyes, is he just a fly?
Looking back, it seems to be quite true.
Faye Xavier: "You’re giving too much too soon. Relationships need to progress gradually, and you have to be patient. Right now, you just need to let her know you’re interested in her. There’s no need to push her for the outcome you want immediately."
Listening to these sensible words, Norman Sutton began to lose his patience because he understood the logic, but he had no idea how to salvage his relationship with Lana Holloway.
Faye Xavier seemed to have read Norman Sutton’s mind and quickly added, "I’ve noticed over the last couple of days that the young lady seems to be starting to resent you. This is the time when you absolutely can’t chase after her. You need to use a little trick."
Norman Sutton: "Say something I can understand."
Faye Xavier: "Didn’t I just say it? Eight words—’Pretend to catch, then release; stay close yet distant.’"
Norman Sutton: "Saying it is like saying nothing."
Faye Xavier shook his head and sighed, "Your brain is nowhere near Master Shane’s. He gets it instantly. What I mean is, you have to make the young lady jealous."
"Brother Faye, I’ve been waiting for ages, and it turns out you were here chatting?" Just as Faye Xavier finished speaking, a girl with a bob hairstyle snuggled up to him.
Faye Xavier effortlessly wrapped his arm around the girl and said with a smile, "Sorry, darling, I have an elementary school classmate living around here who just called and wants to hang out. I had to wait for her here."
The bob-haired girl immediately asked, "You still keep in touch with your elementary school classmates? Is it a guy or a girl?"
Faye Xavier openly replied, "A female classmate, haven’t seen her for quite some time."
The bob-haired girl pushed away Faye Xavier’s hand from her waist and pouted, "Then I better not disturb your catch-up."
Faye Xavier smiled with satisfaction and said, "Darling, you wait at the seat for me; I’ll be right there."
The bob-haired girl pouted and walked away, and Faye Xavier turned to Norman Sutton and said, "See that? She’s jealous. You should learn from this; make her feel a sense of crisis, and then reject other girls’ flirtations in front of her. That will score you a lot of points in her heart."
Norman Sutton looked confused. He really wasn’t skilled at these flashy maneuvers.
Before he had a chance to ask how to do it, Faye Xavier said, "That girl just now is Candy, and I’ll ask her to cooperate with you later. Just pretend she has feelings for you in front of that young lady, and then play along appropriately."
Norman Sutton rubbed his fingers on the glass cup, skeptically asking, "Will it work? Why do I feel it’s unreliable?"
Faye Xavier: "It’ll definitely work, you’ll see once you try it, the results will be outstanding. Spring nights are fleeting, and I won’t talk more. If you have doubts, come find me, I’ll guarantee to guide you through the maze."
Norman Sutton still looked dubious, but his relationship with Lana Holloway was already quite strained. He figured he might as well give it a try.
But that woman, would she really be jealous of him?
Thinking back to the words Lana Holloway said earlier, Norman Sutton still felt angry, so he finished off the drink and ordered another.
He sat at the bar for a while, and although some women came to chat, seeing them flaunt themselves, Norman Sutton had absolutely no interest or desire to chat.
He drank several glasses, without feeling anything has eased his melancholy. Seeing the time was already past ten, he settled the bill and returned to the hotel alone.
The rooms they booked were all on the same floor of the hotel. As he walked out of the elevator, the hallway was empty, he wondered if everyone had gone to sleep.
Norman Sutton lightened his steps as he walked towards Lana Holloway’s room, and as he passed the adjacent room, he noticed the door was ajar, with voices from Audrey Sutton and others inside.
Out of curiosity, he pushed the door open and found the group playing mahjong.
Oddly, Audrey Sutton wasn’t participating in the game, she was just sitting aside watching. Seeing Norman Sutton coming in, she asked, "Where have you been? Coming back only now."
Norman Sutton didn’t respond, and Barry Barrett, who was playing a video game nearby, frowned, "Get out, you smell of alcohol."
Audrey Sutton got up from the mahjong table, pinched her nose, walked over to Norman Sutton, and asked, "Weren’t you supposed to be taking care of Lana? Why did you end up drinking?"
Norman Sutton plopped down on the sofa, propped his leg up, and said, "None of your business."
The card-playing Phoebe King chimed in, "No wonder Lana doesn’t fancy you, she’s not blind after all. You should stay single and stop pestering girls."
Norman Sutton: "Mind your own business."
Phoebe King: "How can you talk to your sister-in-law like that? Teacher Sutton, you should really discipline your brother, he has no manners."
Stephen Sutton coldly reminded, "Half an hour left."
Phoebe King pouted in soft discontent, "It’s still so early... I used to go to bed at dawn."
Audrey Sutton was about to joke with Phoebe King when Shane Warner entered with Anna, saying to Audrey Sutton, "What time is it? Aren’t you coming to bed?"
"I’ll be right there; I just need to get a glass of water."
Shane Warner seemed worried Audrey Sutton would dawdle, so he stood by the door watching her pour water. Audrey Sutton dared not linger, she filled the cup with water and obediently followed Shane Warner out.
As she walked, she muttered, "I can’t fall asleep lying this early."
Shane Warner coolly said, "Give me your phone and you’ll sleep."
Audrey Sutton glared at him, then reached out to pinch Anna’s face and said, "Look at this kid with his round eyes; it’s like he won’t sleep anytime soon."
Shane Warner: "Then just lock the door and let him play. As long as he doesn’t crawl out, it’s fine."
Audrey Sutton: "You’re really raising him this way. Our Anna can understand words now, you really should treat him better, or he might not be filial to you when you’re old."
Shane Warner disliked any topic related to "being old," so he scowled and said no more.
In the mahjong room, after Audrey Sutton left, Norman Sutton approached Barry Barrett, coughed lightly, and softly asked, "Is she feeling better?"
Barry Barrett froze for a moment, then feigned ignorance, "Who?"
Norman Sutton glared at her, "Who else? The one sharing a room with you."
Barry Barrett tilted her head, "She’s next door, you go ask her yourself."
