Chapter 668: Chapter 668: I Meant You’re Cute

Clarissa Morgan didn’t defend herself, not even hiring a lawyer, and accepted the court’s verdict.

Intentional homicide, sentenced to death, with a two-year reprieve.

The day Clarissa Morgan went to prison happened to be the day Melody Yardley was released.

Melody Yardley became the first person to visit Clarissa Morgan in prison, but all she said was, "It’s a pity I didn’t personally send you here! This is truly retribution; neither you nor your mother will end well!"

Clarissa Morgan only looked at Melody Yardley woodenly, as if any words could no longer provoke her, like a soulless wax figure.

No expression, no reaction.

Clarissa Morgan’s mother still hadn’t appeared; perhaps she was abroad and hadn’t heard the news, or maybe Clarissa simply didn’t want her to know.

Although Clarissa Morgan’s end was lamentable, Audrey Sutton felt no sympathy for her current fate.

Because she had countless opportunities to live a bright life she enjoyed, but she never knew contentment.

You could say reaching this point was all a result of her own doing.

After a few days of heated online discussions about Clarissa Morgan, the chatter gradually subsided.

The weather didn’t stay warm for long before it snowed again after New Year’s.

Audrey Sutton didn’t know if she gained weight or the baby grew, anyway, her weight was increasing, and her belly was getting larger.

Phoebe King’s pregnancy compared to hers was only a little over a month apart, but her baby bump wasn’t obvious at all, at most resembling a small belly. Audrey remembered that at four-plus months, wearing fitted clothes made her pregnancy very noticeable.

The doctor said everyone’s pregnancy physique varies; some have big bellies at three months, while others’ bellies aren’t obvious even at seven or eight months, but as long as the baby is healthy, there’s no major problem.

Audrey Sutton wasn’t worried about her weight or size. It was mainly that having a big belly made everything inconvenient; just sitting and drawing for less than half an hour would make her back ache.

Shane Warner wasn’t that busy after New Year’s and stayed home every day to take care of her.

Every time Audrey thought about the happy life after the baby was born, she felt that enduring some hardship now was worth it.

With the New Year approaching, this year was just like last year, planned to be celebrated at Audrey Sutton’s home.

After Wallace Warner passed away, Hazel Yates became closer to Helen Holloway, often inviting her over for a meal, worried that Helen might feel lonely.

Audrey Sutton hadn’t gone out much these past few days; firstly because it was cold, and secondly, she was feeling lazy. Holding a pen to draw every day felt tiring, and she preferred cozying up on the sofa watching TV and playing on her phone.

Shane Warner was worried about her lying too much, so if there was sunlight, he would take her out for a walk.

Audrey bundled herself up in a cotton coat, wearing gloves, a hat, and a scarf wrapped around her neck, covering the lower half of her face, leaving only her eyes visible.

Due to her thick clothes and pregnancy, Audrey just appeared particularly clumsy.

Shane Warner looked at a guy walking his pet dog on the roadside and joked, "Others walk their dog, I walk a penguin."

Upon hearing this, Audrey frowned, shook off his hand, and stopped in the snow, looking at him angrily.

Shane Warner laughed, stopped, turned around to look at her, and took her hand covered in a fluffy glove again, saying, "I’m saying you’re cute."

Audrey continued walking forward but again shook off his hand, tucking her hand into her pocket.

Shane Warner: "I’ll get you some roasted chestnuts later, freshly cooked."

After thinking for a moment, Audrey’s expression improved, and she said, "You have to peel them for me."

Shane Warner: "They sell pre-peeled ones."

Audrey: "I want to buy unpeeled ones, and then you peel them for me!"

Shane Warner: "You’re just making trouble when there’s none."

The two reached a stall selling roasted chestnuts, with pre-peeled ones beside them, but Shane Warner still followed Audrey’s words and bought the unpeeled ones.

On the way home, Shane Warner peeled a few for her, but halfway through, he received a call that he needed to go to Starfield.

After taking Audrey home, Shane changed his clothes and went out.

Sitting alone in the living room peeling chestnuts while watching TV, Audrey regretted not buying the pre-peeled ones.

"Ding-dong—"

The doorbell rang followed by Jasmine Lucas’s voice outside the door: "Madam, it’s me, are you home?"

When Audrey heard it was Jasmine, she immediately dropped the half-peeled chestnut in her hand, got up, and went to open the door: "Jasmine, why are you here?"

Jasmine glanced into the house: "Is it convenient for me to come in and talk?"

Audrey stepped aside to make way and asked Jasmine, "Is there any progress on the matter?"

Jasmine changed her shoes, followed Audrey into the house, grabbed the hot water Audrey handed her, took a sip, and then shook her head, saying, "Miles Sterling seems to have gone abroad for a vacation; he hasn’t been seen since Christmas, and I just went to find that girl."

Audrey: "Vanessa?"

Jasmine nodded and said, "I’m not familiar with that girl; she’s very cautious and doesn’t trust me. I wanted her to help gather evidence of Miles Sterling’s domestic violence, or write an article exposing his crimes, and then we could help her bring it to light through our channels. But she hesitated and ultimately refused."

Audrey sighed and explained, "She might be afraid you guys just want to dig up news and don’t really want to help her. Because if she agrees, there are only two outcomes: either Miles Sterling is punished by law, or she waits to be beaten to death by him. And the Sterling family isn’t short of money, so even if convicted, it might not be easy to make Miles Sterling serve his sentence. This is likely Vanessa’s concern."

Jasmine: "So I thought that just going through legal channels might not work, so I’m planning to first get public attention on the issue online. Under public pressure, the Sterling family can’t disregard the law so blatantly, right?"

"It’s hard to say. Miles Sterling is an only child; his parents will definitely try everything to get him off, and by then, they probably won’t care about public opinion."

Jasmine: "But at least we can get Vanessa away from the Sterling family, away from Miles’s control. We can keep Vanessa safe on our end, but right now, Vanessa doesn’t trust us."

Audrey looked thoughtfully at Jasmine; the two of them felt a bit awkward under each other’s gaze.

Jasmine’s mouth twitched, and she said, "No way, madam, you don’t trust us either?!"

Audrey chuckled dryly and explained, "Mainly, this is the first time I’ve interacted with you, and I’m not sure how strong your capabilities are. Vanessa’s situation is also quite special; if we can’t be 100% certain of her safety, I don’t dare to persuade her to take this risk either."
