Chapter 657: Chapter 657: I Shouldn’t Have Married You from the Start

When Audrey Sutton said this, her eyes were almost always on Stephen Sutton, observing his reaction.

Although Stephen Sutton seemed as if he wasn’t listening to what Audrey Sutton was saying, Audrey knew he had heard every word, just didn’t show his thoughts on his face.

Before Stephen could answer, Hazel Yates hurried over and said with concern, "Are you feeling carsick? There are dumplings in the fridge. I know you love them, so I specially had someone make some for you today. How about I cook a few for you now?"

Indeed, Phoebe King hadn’t eaten much today due to her mood. Though claiming she vomited on her way back was a lie, she was genuinely hungry. Phoebe nodded and said, "Mom, you should rest early. I’ll cook them myself later."

Audrey Sutton seized the opportunity and said, "Isn’t big brother here? Let him cook. He should take care of his own wife, and you don’t need to trouble yourself, Mom."

Hazel Yates replied, "Alright, let him cook then. Phoebe likes them with chili sauce. Make sure to prepare some for her, but not too spicy, just a bit will do."

Stephen Sutton continued organizing the small bag of medicine, giving no response or reaction.

Hazel Yates didn’t notice anything unusual between the two, because Stephen was usually like this. Even if he didn’t verbally agree when asked to do something, he would eventually do it.

"It’s getting cold, make sure you all dress warmly, and don’t go out if there’s no need. The eldest caught a cold and has been sluggish all day."

Audrey Sutton wiggled her toes in the soaking water, pointedly saying, "I don’t think it’s just the cold that’s making big brother sluggish."

Hazel Yates misunderstood, chuckled, and said, "Your brother has always been quite sluggish."

Phoebe King just kept her head down, looking at her feet in the warm water, still not speaking directly to Stephen Sutton.

After Stephen Sutton finished his medicine, Hazel Yates urged, "Hurry and cook. After eating, go get some rest."

Then, turning to Phoebe King, she asked, "Phoebe, how many do you want to eat?"

Phoebe thought for a moment, and with a slightly muffled tone, replied, "Ten."

Audrey Sutton laughed and said to Stephen Sutton, "I want ten too, thank you, big brother!"

Silently, Stephen Sutton headed to the kitchen.

Hazel Yates reminded him again, "Go easy on the chili in the sauce, use the green pepper sauce from the jar, it’s not that spicy."

Norman Sutton suddenly chimed in, "I want twenty."

Hazel Yates glared at him, "You ate three bowls of rice tonight, and now you want to eat twenty dumplings too?"

Norman Sutton said, "I’m still growing."

Hazel Yates rolled her eyes, still not at ease, and followed him to the kitchen, muttering to Norman Sutton, "I’ll cook twenty for you, but if you don’t finish them, you’ll be in trouble!"

After soaking her feet, Phoebe King went upstairs with Audrey Sutton to change into more comfortable home clothes.

All her things were in Stephen Sutton’s room. Fortunately, with Stephen downstairs, it was convenient for her to go in and find her clothes.

But since Stephen had packed the clothes, she only instructed him to include the white fluffy nightgown, which she couldn’t find now.

Downstairs, after Stephen Sutton finished cooking the dumplings, Norman Sutton immediately started eating his bowl.

Hazel Yates chided him, "All you know is to eat! Go call your sister and sister-in-law!"

Stephen Sutton softly said, "I’ll go."

Audrey Sutton changed clothes and was about to go to Stephen Sutton’s room to find Phoebe King when she coincidentally encountered Stephen going upstairs.

Stephen Sutton signaled Audrey to go downstairs with a glance. Sensibly, Audrey made him a thumbs-up gesture and went downstairs alone.

After watching Audrey leave, Stephen Sutton reached out and pushed open the door, seeing Phoebe King rummaging through the wardrobe.

Upon hearing the sound, Phoebe King turned her head to look toward the door.

Initially, she thought it was Audrey coming to find her. Upon seeing it was Stephen, she immediately turned her head back and continued looking for clothes in the wardrobe, pretending not to see him.

"What are you looking for?" Stephen Sutton walked over and softly asked. His hoarse voice showed that he really had caught a cold.

Phoebe King continued searching without responding.

Stephen stood by the wardrobe door watching her rummage, and after a few seconds of standoff, seeing Phoebe repeatedly searching the same places, he asked again, "What are you angry about? Not happy after playing outside all day?"

Upon hearing this, Phoebe King didn’t want to talk to him even more. She turned to leave but was blocked by Stephen, "You still think you’re right, don’t you?"

Hearing such questioning, the grievances Phoebe King had held all day turned into tears, and she yelled at Stephen, "Yes, I’m unreasonable. I’m wrong, alright? I shouldn’t have joked in front of your students; I was out of line and embarrassed you! Maybe I shouldn’t have married you in the first place! You should have married a virtuous, sensible, obedient wife!"

Hearing this, Stephen Sutton’s frown deepened, "Do you call that recognizing your mistake? I never blamed you. I just reminded you to be careful with your words in the future. Joking is fine with friends, but shouldn’t you consider my feelings in front of my students?"

Phoebe King bowed her head, rubbing her tears with her hands repeatedly. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

She wasn’t unaware of these reasons. But at that moment, she didn’t want to explain them. She knew she was wrong from the beginning, but why couldn’t he first soothe her emotions and then calmly tell her these reasons?

Did he really need to clarify right and wrong with her at this moment?!

The last time Stephen saw her cry was on their wedding day. Usually, she was carefree, but seeing her cry made him particularly upset.

He pulled Phoebe, who was turning away, over, not very gently, lifted her face, and wiped away her tears while frowning, "Are you feeling wronged? Can’t I say anything to you?"

Phoebe slapped away his hand in defiance, turned her head again, thinking about the day and feeling more wronged the more she thought about it.

"Do you even know why you’re crying? You’ve done wrong, you’re the one making trouble, you stormed out to play all day, and when I don’t say anything, you cry about it?"

"Everyone has faults. I don’t expect you to be perfect, but if someone points them out and you find them reasonable, you should accept them openly and try to correct them next time. I didn’t scold you or yell at you, so why are you making such a fuss?"

Phoebe King took a deep breath, unable to resist replying, "I’m your wife, not your student! Stop managing me like you do your students!"
