Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 581: I Was the One Who Killed Sean
Shane parked the car by the roadside and walked to the porch with an umbrella.
Looking at the flower pots placed on both sides of the porch, the branches were neatly trimmed, indicating that someone had been living here continuously.
Shane pressed the doorbell and glanced inside through the frosted glass on the door, only vaguely seeing lights inside.
As he was about to press the doorbell again, he heard footsteps approaching the door, followed by the voice of a middle-aged woman: "Who’s there?"
Shane asked politely through the door, "Hello, is Uncle Griffin at home?"
The door opened, and a woman in her forties stood at the door, sizing up Shane with a couple of glances. Seeing that the young man didn’t seem like a bad person, she replied warmly, "He’s gone fishing. May I ask who you are?"
At this moment, a girl of about seventeen or eighteen approached and whispered to the woman, "That’s Third Young Master Warner; there are lots of news about him online."
Upon hearing that he was from The Warner family, the woman seemed to understand and promptly invited Shane in with courtesy: "Come in, make yourself at home. I’ll call him to come back."
The young girl was evidently a fan of Shane’s good looks, eagerly serving him tea and water.
After making the call, the woman came over and asked, "Third Young Master, why did you come by all of a sudden? Is there something you need?"
Shane smiled and replied, "I haven’t seen Uncle Griffin in quite some time, so I came by to check on him."
The woman sighed, "He hasn’t been with The Warner for so long, I didn’t expect you to still remember him. Truly thoughtful, it’s hard to find such a good boss. I still don’t understand why he resigned back then."
Harrison Griffin used to be a driver for The Warner, mainly responsible for Wallace Warner and Helen Holloway’s travels, and had been with them for quite some time. When Shane was in school, Harrison often drove him to and from school.
Later, the driver changed abruptly, and Shane had asked Wallace Warner, but Wallace had only used the excuse of family issues at Harrison’s place to brush it off.
At the time, Shane didn’t think much of it, believing that changing jobs wasn’t unusual.
It wasn’t until yesterday, when he heard what Gabriel Armstrong had to say, that he began to realize the reason might not have been so simple.
About twenty minutes later, Harrison Griffin returned home with his fishing gear and a few caught fish.
Harrison didn’t seem too surprised by Shane’s sudden visit, as if he knew Shane would come back one day.
Harrison handed the fish basket to the woman, instructing her to prepare lunch in the kitchen, then he sent his daughter upstairs before sitting down on the sofa next to Shane, smiling as he said, "Young Master, what brings you here today?"
Shane smiled at Harrison, his gaze resting on the mole above Harrison’s lip.
Gabriel Armstrong’s description of the person’s appearance immediately brought Harrison to Shane’s mind.
"Uncle Griffin, my dad’s sick, and he doesn’t have much time left."
Harrison was momentarily stunned, surprised by the news and a bit puzzled as to why Shane had suddenly come to tell him this.
After a moment of silence, Shane continued, "After lunch, please come with me to the hospital to see him."
Harrison nodded, "The master has been good to me, it’s only right to see him."
Shane didn’t mention anything more, not a single word about his brother.
Harrison also let his guard down a bit, assuming Shane only wanted him to see Wallace Warner one last time.
During the meal, Harrison talked to Shane about many past events.
Harrison’s father used to be the butler for The Warner, so Harrison also grew up there. Although he was only a driver, the old master always treated Harrison as family.
This small villa was also allocated to the Griffin Family by the old master. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
So when Harrison resigned, Shane always found it odd.
After the meal, Shane took Harrison to the hospital.
Helen Holloway said Wallace Warner had just eaten something, and with medication, his mental state was relatively stable, at least clear-headed enough to say a few words.
Seeing Wallace Warner’s frail state, Harrison’s eyes welled up with tears for a moment, "Master..."
Wallace Warner slowly turned his head to look at Harrison, and his not completely clear eyes seemed to be momentarily stunned, asking in a slightly strained, hoarse voice, "Why are you here?"
Harrison glanced at Shane behind him and said, "Young Master came to find me; otherwise, I wouldn’t have known you were so ill."
Wallace Warner’s gaze shifted to Shane, and a complex mix of emotions was visible between father and son.
Some things seemed to have become clear with Harrison’s appearance.
After chatting for a while, Wallace Warner ended the conversation, saying he needed to rest.
Shane then said to Harrison, "Let’s go, Uncle Griffin, I’ll drive you back."
Just as they reached the hospital room door, they heard Wallace Warner say, "Shane, let the driver take your Uncle Griffin back, stay with Dad."
Shane paused, exchanged a few words with Harrison, and asked Helen Holloway to escort Harrison downstairs. He then turned back into the room, gently closing the door behind him.
Shane stopped by the bed, the rhythmic beeping of hospital machines lingering in his ears.
Wallace Warner had his eyes closed, appearing as if asleep.
Shane stood quietly by the bedside, not speaking on his own accord.
After a while, Wallace Warner slowly opened his eyes, visibly exhausted, and with great effort asked, "...How is the investigation on Sean going?"
Shane opened his mouth but only spoke in a hoarse voice two seconds later, "Still investigating."
Wallace Warner smiled, inhaling deeply, "You must know by now, or else you wouldn’t have suddenly gone to find your Uncle Griffin."
Shane’s emotions were complex; he was still unwilling to believe his suspicions were correct. He wanted Wallace Warner to explain, to say he was unaware, that this had nothing to do with him...
But clearly, Wallace Warner seemed to tacitly acknowledge everything at this moment.
On one side was his brother who passed away young, on the other, his father hanging by a thread; Shane felt it was as if fate was playing a cruel joke on him.
"...Why did you do it?"
Wallace Warner closed his eyes again, recalling events of the past, filled with remorse, "It was me... I caused Sean’s death."
Hearing Wallace Warner admit this, Shane still felt heartbroken.
Before investigating his brother’s cause of death, he had considered countless possibilities, but never had he suspected that person could be Wallace Warner.
Even though Wallace Warner had repeatedly discouraged him from continuing the investigation, Shane had assumed it was because Wallace Warner was honoring his grandfather’s wish to let bygones be bygones.
Never did it cross his mind that Wallace Warner was actually avoiding being investigated.
