Chapter 560: Chapter 560: I Just Want a Mahjong Table

Phoebe King was almost firmly holding onto the landlord’s position, almost always facing the two-on-one situation with Audrey Sutton and Seraphina Vaughn. In less than an hour, Phoebe King’s face was covered with white paper strips.

"Are you two cheating or something? Why am I always losing?"

Seraphina Vaughn teased Phoebe King, saying: "Our company needs talents like you."

"I’m done, this isn’t fun. Next time, call someone for a game of mahjong."

Audrey Sutton: "Hasn’t Flora been clamoring to play mahjong for a while? Let’s arrange a table whenever she’s free."

Seraphina Vaughn: "Where are we going to play? Entertainment places are filled with smoke and alcohol, and you two are pregnant. Do you really want to go in there?"

Phoebe King mischievously said to Audrey Sutton, "Audrey, ask your husband to get a mahjong table for your place."

Audrey Sutton was shocked, eyes wide open, "Do you think that’s possible? Sneaking out to play is more likely. If we put a table at home, he’d probably throw me and the mahjong table out."

Phoebe King: "I’m completely helpless, you know your big brother would never agree to that, but Shane, if you speak nicely, he’ll still listen to you. I don’t believe you can’t persuade him to get a mahjong table. Just tell him you’re bored, and with the cold weather, you don’t know where else to go, so you’ll stay home and play mahjong to get through the winter."

Seraphina Vaughn: "You can have the mahjong table moved from my house, just talk it over with your husband."

Audrey Sutton twitched the corners of her mouth. She wasn’t sure if Shane Warner would agree, and after some thought, she said: "... How about going back to my place to play? I have one at home."

Phoebe King frowned and refused, "No way, no way, playing under your parents’ noses every day wouldn’t look good. You’re their daughter, so it’s okay for you. But as their daughter-in-law, I have to maintain appearances."

Audrey Sutton: "... Then I’ll ask him when he gets back."

Phoebe King: "Remember to sound a bit pitiful, complain to him, saying something like, ’You never have time to accompany me, and I have this small hobby. Yet, you won’t satisfy it. If he disagrees, make a fuss, and he’ll definitely cave."

Audrey Sutton imagined that scene. She figured if she said that, Shane Warner might decide to spend less time at work and more at home with her, rather than putting a mahjong table at home for her to play every day.

During dinner, Barry Barrett and Flora Lane were invited too, solely to offer Audrey Sutton bad advice about the mahjong table.

Around nine, Mor came to pick up Flora, and Phoebe and Barry hitched a ride together.

Audrey Sutton asked Lucian Quinn when Shane Warner would be back, but Lucian said he didn’t know since Shane was out discussing business.

After sending them off, Audrey Sutton felt more uneasy, questioning how Lucian, being so close to Shane Warner, wouldn’t know his schedule.

Perhaps... Shane Warner wasn’t actually out for work?

Considering how well-dressed Shane was when he left, Phoebe and Seraphina’s previous words echoed in her ears.

Besides, he usually finishes dinner and returns around seven or eight, and now it was close to ten.

Ignoring tidying up, Audrey Sutton grabbed her phone from the couch and dialed Shane Warner’s number...

The phone rang steadily, but no one picked up...

Audrey Sutton’s brow furrowed tighter, her mind racing with images of Shane Warner having a wild time with another woman.

Just as the call seemed about to end automatically, the sound of a car came from outside.

Audrey Sutton immediately turned around and dashed toward the door, standing there, watching Shane Warner’s car pull into the courtyard.

He got out and asked her, "What’s up with the call?"

Only then did Audrey Sutton realize he hadn’t answered because he was almost home.

She let out a sigh of relief and lightly said, "Just wanted to ask why you haven’t returned yet."

Shane Warner: "I stopped by the hospital, so I came back late. Come inside, it’s windy at the door."

As soon as Shane finished locking the car, they both headed inside. Smelling the lingering hot pot aroma and seeing the messy dining table, Shane asked, "How many people did you invite over while I was out?"

"Just Sister Phoebe and Flora, Lucian just came to pick them up." Audrey Sutton smiled, adding, "Are you full? There’s still half a plate of beef left. I’ll cook it for you?"

Shane Warner, changing his shoes, walked over saying, "It’s late to eat, head upstairs and sleep, I’ll clean up."

Audrey Sutton mimicked his tone, "It’s so early, why sleep? I have something to discuss with you."

"Hmm?" Shane Warner removed his coat, rolled up his sleeves, and started helping to tidy up the dishes.

Audrey Sutton hesitated, "Well... it’s not a big deal, just that... I want..."

Noticing her hesitant demeanor, Shane Warner stopped tidying and stood up, half-smiling, curious about what scheme she had this time.

"I want to buy a mahjong table!" The words spilled out quickly, as if scalding.

Shane Warner didn’t catch it, asking, "You want to buy what?"

"A mahjong table!"

They stared at each other in silence for several seconds before Shane Warner asked, "What for?"

Audrey Sutton: "Obviously, to play mahjong!"

Shane Warner: "With whom?"

Audrey Sutton: "Just... Sister Phoebe and the others."

Shane Warner: "I’ve told you not to spend too much time with her."

Audrey Sutton: "It wasn’t Sister Phoebe’s idea, it was mine! I mean, you’re out all day working, leaving me alone at home so bored. Winter’s near and I don’t feel like going out in the cold. I just want them to come over and keep me company playing mahjong!"

Shane Warner continued cleaning the table, "In a few days, I’ll be less busy. I’ll come home and spend time with you."

Audrey Sutton: "Then you can play with us!" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Shane Warner glared sharply, making Audrey Sutton backtrack, "Then we won’t play, and you can just help us cook."

Shane Warner: "I see you’re getting cheeky."

Audrey Sutton switched to being coy, "Are you buying it or not! I just want a mahjong table!"

Shane Warner: "The doctor said, during pregnancy, you need more activity. Sitting around isn’t good for you. Haven’t you complained about backaches recently? Having a mahjong table will only worsen it."

Audrey Sutton: "Without a mahjong table, my heart aches. That’s worse than a sore back!"

Shane Warner remained silent, pondering.

Audrey Sutton tried a different tactic, "If you don’t buy it, I’ll sneak out to play!"

Shane Warner glared at her, threatening coldly, "Shall I deal with you?"

Audrey Sutton said confidently, "I don’t believe you’d dare hit me!"

Shane Warner: "So, you’re saying I can’t handle you anymore? You’ve grown bold?"
