Chapter 557: Chapter 557: At Most, Just Half a Year Left

Under the dim light of the bedroom, Master Shane turned and glanced at Audrey Sutton, lowering his head to fasten his belt, and said softly, "It’s nothing, you go back to sleep. I’ll be back soon."

Audrey Sutton, feeling a bit groggy, thought he was going to work. But seeing how dark it was outside, it was clearly not time for him to go to work. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

She stretched out her hand to pick up the phone on the bedside table and glanced at the time, 4:32.

"Where are you going so early? Did something happen?"

Master Shane understood Audrey Sutton’s nature; if he didn’t give a proper explanation, she might insist on going out with him. Even if he left her at home, with her imaginative mind, she probably wouldn’t be able to sleep peacefully again.

So Master Shane chose to tell the truth: "My mom just called and said my dad wasn’t feeling well. He just went to the hospital, so I’m going to check on him."

"What’s wrong? Is it serious?" As she spoke, Audrey Sutton lifted the duvet, "Wait, I’ll go with you."

Master Shane reached out to press her down: "We don’t know the situation yet, and you’re not a doctor; you won’t be able to help. You should rest well at home. Don’t make me worry about both ends. If he has to be hospitalized, I’ll come back in the morning to take you there."

"Then call me if anything happens."

"Okay, don’t worry, go back to sleep."

"Drive slowly and be safe on the road."

"I will." Master Shane leaned over and gently kissed Audrey Sutton on the forehead: "Be good and wait for me to come back."

Audrey Sutton stood by the window, watching Master Shane’s car drive out of the courtyard, silently praying in her heart, hoping it was just a false alarm.

Half-asleep, she had some strange dreams, unable to remember what they were, just feeling very oppressive.

It was already light outside, everywhere was quiet, and Master Shane seemed to have not returned yet.

Audrey Sutton checked the time, it was not yet eight o’clock.

She walked to the window to take a look, and the usual parking spot was still empty, confirming that Master Shane was still at the hospital, so she immediately called him.

"Awake now?" His voice sounded a bit hoarse and tired.

Audrey Sutton asked, "How’s Dad?"

Master Shane sighed, "The situation is still unclear; they’re controlling it with medication and getting ready for some tests."

Audrey Sutton: "Then I’ll go over to see you now."

Master Shane: "Faye Xavier will drive over later to pick you up. You should get up, freshen up, and eat something to fill your stomach."

...

At the hospital.

When Audrey Sutton arrived, Master Shane was sitting alone on a chair against the wall outside the examination room, his head down as if contemplating something, appearing to be dealing with a tricky problem, looking somewhat helpless.

This was the first time Audrey Sutton had seen him like this.

She walked over quietly and placed her hand on his shoulder.

Master Shane then realized her presence, straightened up, and looked at her: "You got here so fast?"

Audrey Sutton noticed the slight red veins in his eyes, unable to hide her heartache: "You haven’t slept at all?"

"It’s nothing, I’m not tired."

Faye Xavier, standing nearby, jokingly said, "Sister-in-law, before Master Shane got married, he used to pull all-nighters quite often, not sleeping for a night is nothing special."

Master Shane glared at Faye Xavier, who then got a bit more serious and asked, "The old man, is he okay?"

"Still don’t know, the test results aren’t out yet."

Seeing Master Shane’s heavy expression, Audrey Sutton realized that things might not be good.

Although the father-son relationship wasn’t particularly close, after all, blood is thicker than water, and it’s impossible to remain indifferent when seeing a loved one in pain.

At around nine, Hazel Yates and Samuel Sutton also arrived at the hospital.

Audrey Sutton asked in slight surprise, "Dad, Mom, why are you here?"

Hazel Yates said, "I just heard from your fifth brother that Master Shane’s dad got sick, so we came to check on him. Is he still in the examination?"

Just as she asked, the door to the examination room opened, and everyone unconsciously gathered around.

A middle-aged man in a white coat looked at the name on the examination sheet and asked, "Are Wallace Warner’s family members present?"

Hazel Yates: "We all are."

Helen Holloway anxiously asked, "How is he?"

The doctor looked rather serious, glancing at Master Shane, as if hesitating whether to speak to him privately or not.

Master Shane paused for a moment, then said calmly, "Just say it."

The doctor said, "Liver cancer, late stage. The patient’s condition is not good. At best, with effective treatment, he might have six months; spend more time with him from now on."

"Oh no! Dear Mother!" Helen Holloway fainted, and Hazel Yates helped support her, quickly calling for the doctor.

Audrey Sutton bit her lip, turning her head to look at Master Shane.

He remained unusually calm, perhaps because he was accustomed to hiding his emotions, he wouldn’t easily reveal his inner sorrow.

Audrey Sutton didn’t know what else to say to comfort him, she just reached out strongly, hugging him tightly, attempting to provide him some solace.

No one told Wallace Warner about this, but he probably already understood the state of his own body.

While Audrey Sutton accompanied Master Shane at the hospital to take care of Wallace Warner, she saw him in such pain that he couldn’t even speak, and within just two or three days, he became noticeably haggard.

The hospitalization didn’t offer much relief, only easing some of the pain through treatment.

Helen Holloway almost cried every day, but with Hazel Yates’s comforting words and since Wallace Warner’s condition stabilized a bit, occasionally lying quietly on the bed to talk to others, her mood somewhat calmed down.

On Thursday morning, Audrey Sutton went to the hospital with Master Shane for a prenatal checkup. In the examination room, they ran into Catherine Porter, the woman who looked strikingly like Lan Irving.

She wasn’t responsible for the examination, seeming to just be helping with guidance in her spare time.

While Audrey Sutton was doing the ultrasound, Catherine Porter was beside her, pointing out the baby’s silhouette, telling Audrey where the baby’s head was and where the limbs were.

Audrey couldn’t really make sense of it, but felt that Catherine Porter wasn’t quite as she had imagined.

During that brief interaction, she found nothing peculiar, thinking she’s quite an amiable and talented woman with strong professional knowledge.

After receiving the checkup results, Audrey Sutton went with Master Shane to the inpatient department.

In the hospital room, Helen Holloway was sitting by the bed peeling an apple, chatting with Wallace Warner, who seemed a bit more spirited.

"Shane, with your mom taking care of things here at the hospital, you’re busy with work, so there’s no need for you to always run back and forth to the hospital."

Master Shane, holding Audrey Sutton, walked to the bedside and said, "I came with Audrey for a checkup, so I just stopped by to see you."

Helen Holloway gently patted Wallace Warner, saying, "Dear, you’ve got to hold on, we’re about to have a grandchild."
