Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 541: Busier Than Me?
Just as Audrey Sutton was about to walk out the door, she heard the sound of high heels approaching from afar.
Feeling guilty, Audrey instinctively peeked out the door, and what she saw nearly stopped her heart: "J-Joy."
"Audrey? Why are you still in the office instead of being with President Warner at this hour?"
Audrey’s mind raced, and she said, "He’s upstairs, I came down to get something. Why are you here so early, Joy?" 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"I’m here to organize some documents. It’s almost the weekend, and I need to submit them."
"Well, I’ll leave you to it then."
With that, Audrey casually walked towards the elevator. To conceal her nervousness, she took out her phone, pretending to be nonchalant while looking at it.
Once inside the elevator, Audrey hurriedly sent a message to Seraphina Vaughn, confirming that they could receive the camera feed before she felt relieved.
Shane hadn’t returned yet, so Audrey went to his office and directly entered the lounge.
She didn’t bother setting an alarm. In this dreary weather, she just wanted to wake up naturally.
After all, her current act was to appear carefree and reckless.
But unexpectedly, less than half an hour after she lay down, Barry Barrett called, asking about the camera setup. He also mentioned that he tried probing Director Quinne about it earlier and felt that Director Quinne seemed unaware of the situation.
Audrey regarded Director Quinne as a young and well-educated person who didn’t seem like someone who would do such things.
Thinking about the lipstick in her pocket, Audrey decided not to go back to sleep.
Just as she stepped out of the office, she bumped into Shane and Lucian Quinn, who had returned to the company.
Shane stopped and looked at Audrey, asking, "Where are you hastily heading off to?"
Audrey didn’t even pause her steps and simply threw back, "I’m busy."
Shane, bewildered, watched Audrey’s back and couldn’t help but mutter, "Busier than me?"
Back downstairs, as it neared working hours, people gradually returned to their posts.
Audrey glanced towards the director’s office and through the frosted glass, she could vaguely see the figures of three directors, with Joy in a red dress being the most conspicuous.
Barry suggested, "I think it’s better to wait until it’s almost time to get off work, see how things stand, and strike when there are fewer people around."
Audrey looked thoughtfully at the director’s office door. She felt uneasy as long as the lipstick wasn’t placed into Joy’s bag.
Seraphina also reported that nothing seemed unusual on the surveillance feed for now. They couldn’t hear their conversations and hadn’t discovered anything usable as evidence yet.
While Audrey was in a daze, she saw Joy come out of the director’s office with a water cup, fill it at the water dispenser, and then chat with a female colleague whom Audrey had previously encountered in the restroom.
Audrey stood up and approached with a friendly chat, "Joy, what shade of lipstick are you wearing today? It’s so pretty."
Joy smiled and said, "I bought it a long time ago."
Audrey remarked, "But I still prefer the one you used frequently before, it feels more fitting to your style."
Joy replied, "Sometimes it’s nice to switch things up for a fresh feel."
Thinking quickly, Audrey added, "Joy, can you lend me that lipstick you used to use? I want to try the shade and if it suits me, I’ll buy one too."
Lipstick was a common topic among women, so Joy didn’t suspect anything and continued smiling generously, "Madam, with your fair skin, you can pull off any shade."
Audrey maintained a natural demeanor, "I haven’t bought new lipsticks in a while, and the colors I bought before seem all too similar. But the one you had before, I instantly liked it."
Before Joy could respond, the other woman chimed in sarcastically, "Madam, if you want lipstick, can’t President Warner buy all the shades for you to try? It’s just a bit of money."
Audrey’s smile remained unchanged, "What do men know about these things? They buy some bizarre colors that are useless. It’s not about the money, but it’s foolish to buy a bunch of pointless things."
Joy nodded in agreement, "I have a bunch of Barbie pinks at home, all gifts from male friends, haven’t touched any, they just take up space."
Audrey swiftly moved to the main point, "Joy, do you have that lipstick with you today? Could you lend me the one you’re using now and the one from before to try?"
"Sure, it’s in my bag. I’ll get it for you."
"Thank you, Joy."
As Joy walked away, Audrey stayed by the desk and innocently said to the woman who had badmouthed her in the restroom, "Your lipstick shade doesn’t really suit you, it makes you look darker."
The woman didn’t dare face her directly, responding reluctantly, "Whatever Madam says."
"And remember to get some rest, okay? Your foundation isn’t even covering the dark circles now. As we get older, we really need to take care of ourselves, or skin issues will become very apparent."
The woman forced a smile, eyes fixed on the computer, while Audrey could almost feel her gritting her teeth.
Shortly, Joy returned, handing three lipsticks to Audrey, "I only have these three in my bag. This is the one you liked. I’ve used them all, but if you don’t mind, you can try them."
Audrey reached out to take them, "Thanks, Joy. I’ll go try it, and I’ll return them to you later."
"Okay, do you need a mirror?"
"My friend has one."
Saying this, Audrey took the lipsticks back to her own desk.
She checked the lipsticks, noting that the most expensive was priced around eight hundred.
Joy knew that Audrey didn’t worry about such sums, so even if it was costly, Joy confidently let Audrey take it.
Audrey returned to her seat, happily signaled an "OK" gesture to Barry.
Then she opened the target lipstick for a glance, confirming the approximate wear length, and immediately swapped it out with the one from her pocket.
The lipstick she’d brought had been rubbed down a bit on a tissue in the car earlier, making it about the same length as Joy’s.
Seeing Joy walking toward her, Audrey borrowed a small mirror from Barry, nonchalantly applying the lipstick to her lips.
Joy approached, smiling, "I said you could wear any color with your fair skin, it all looks good."
Audrey adjusted the lipstick edges with her finger, looking satisfied in the mirror, "This shade is really nice. I’ve decided to buy one."
Joy asked, "Not trying the others?"
Audrey thought, then shook her head, "Too lazy to remove it without makeup remover. This shade looks great, thanks, Joy."
Joy reached out to take the lipstick back, "No worries. This one should still be available at the stores, it’s pretty popular."
Audrey added, "Okay, I’ll check it out after work."
