Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 479: Are You Single?
About seven or eight minutes after Flora Lane left, Lucian Quinn picked up the jacket from the back of his chair, stood up and said, "There’s an early meeting tomorrow, so I should head back. It’s been a long day for everyone; let’s get some rest."
Upon hearing that Lucian Quinn was leaving, everyone stood up to see him off: "President Quinn, sorry for the lack of hospitality today, let’s plan a better meal some other time."
Lucian Quinn: "This was great, really. Thank you all for the company and drinks tonight, I enjoyed it. Hopefully, we’ll have the chance to meet again."
Lucian Quinn was driving across the long bridge. As he was nearing the end, he saw Flora Lane walking on the pedestrian path.
He did not honk to startle her, but quietly slowed down and followed her.
Flora Lane walked unhurriedly by the roadside, looking down at her phone as if chatting with someone.
Soon the car finished crossing the bridge, and Lucian Quinn parked on a nearby side road before heading towards Flora Lane’s direction.
He followed her from a distance, then took out his phone to message her: "Are you home yet?"
Looking ahead, he clearly saw Flora Lane pause upon receiving his message, then continued walking and replied: "Yes, getting ready to rest. Boss, you should get some early sleep too."
And perhaps to stop any further conversation, she quickly added: "Goodnight."
These two words seemed warm, yet were the best tools to end a topic.
Lucian Quinn smiled as he looked at her just a few meters ahead, choosing not to expose her lie, and replied simply: "Goodnight."
After crossing the street, it was her residential community. Lucian Quinn was separated by a traffic light’s time, and when he caught up, he saw her entering the building.
Luckily, as he arrived, she was waiting for the elevator.
Flora Lane faced the elevator; the lobby was empty and quiet at this hour, so upon hearing footsteps behind her, she instinctively turned around for a glance at the newcomer...
"...Why, why are you here?"
Lucian Quinn glanced at the descending elevator numbers, then looked down at her and said, "I suddenly remembered there’s something I forgot to tell you, so I came over to find you."
Flora Lane gulped: "...It’s already so late, boss, can it wait until another day?"
Lucian Quinn: "Since I’m already here."
"Ding—" the elevator doors opened.
Flora Lane watched as Lucian Quinn stepped inside first, wondering if he intended to enter her apartment?
So Flora Lane stood outside the elevator, unmoving, and said to Lucian Quinn: "Boss, if there’s something you need to say, please say it here."
Lucian Quinn lightly asked: "Is it inconvenient at home?"
Flora Lane’s mouth twitched slightly: "It’s late at night, just the two of us... Boss, do you think... it’s convenient?"
"Hmm, I won’t take too much of your time; come in."
Flora Lane observed that Lucian Quinn didn’t seem like a sleazy person. Audrey Sutton also often said he was a decent guy, so he probably wouldn’t take advantage of her, right?
Hesitantly, she stepped into the elevator, just as the automatic closing time arrived. Lucian Quinn held the door open, preventing it from shutting, and only closed it after she walked in, pressing her floor number with familiarity.
Flora Lane couldn’t help but ask: "How did you know where I live?"
Lucian Quinn: "My boss used to live in the same building; I’ve been here before."
Flora Lane suddenly understood, finding the explanation reasonable.
"...So, what is it exactly?"
Lucian Quinn answered with another question: "I heard you have a roommate?"
Flora Lane: "Oh... yes, and since there are many rooms, it’s better than leaving them empty."
Lucian Quinn: "Is it a man?"
Flora Lane glanced at him, feeling inexplicably guilty: "...Yeah."
After she responded, Lucian Quinn fell silent, not speaking further, lost in his thoughts.
Earlier, while heading back, the artist guy even sent her a WhatsApp message; he probably hasn’t slept yet either.
Although she wasn’t involved with the artist nor Lucian Quinn, the thought of both men encountering each other felt inevitably awkward.
Watching the elevator numbers rise, they soon reached the intended floor.
Lucian Quinn stepped out first, while Flora Lane hesitated slightly before following.
Watching him walk familiarly towards the corner, Flora Lane called out to stop him: "Wait a moment!"
Lucian Quinn paused and turned to look at her.
Flora Lane gestured to the window by the corridor, saying: "...Speak here; my roommate is probably asleep, and I don’t want to disturb him."
Lucian Quinn thought for two seconds before stepping to the spot she indicated, pushing open the window. The outside night breeze gently blew in, bringing a hint of chill, which surprisingly cleared the mind.
"If there’s anything you want to say, just say it." Flora Lane stood about half a meter away, looking at him, feeling incredibly anxious inside.
"Are you single?"
Lucian Quinn’s sudden question caught Flora Lane off guard, leaving her in a daze for two seconds, before honestly shaking her head.
Ever since breaking ties with her family, she’d poured herself into her career and hadn’t interacted with any men for quite some time; it had been an unusually long dry spell.
Lucian Quinn: "I’m single too."
Flora Lane’s mouth twitched slightly, thinking to herself: What does that have to do with me?
But she had more or less grasped Lucian Quinn’s intention, pondering internally how she should respond if Lucian Quinn confessed.
She’d probably refuse? How should she refuse?
Lucian Quinn looked down at her, unsure if it was the alcohol or his gaze making her feel shy and uneasy, as a blush slowly crept up her face. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Thinking back to the first time he met her, he had hit her while she was cycling, and before fleeing, she had fiercely pointed at him: Didn’t you see?! Be careful driving next time!
After that encounter, he hadn’t seen her as "domineering" again. Each time they met, she deliberately avoided him, and if she couldn’t, she’d hurriedly use a few words to brush him off and escape, appearing quite timid.
He had spent a long time in front of the mirror, thinking he didn’t look intimidating, so why was she so afraid to see him?
Under his gaze, Flora Lane felt her neck, face, and ears begin to flush, imagining how red she must look.
Previously, she had made other young men shy and blush, why was it her turn now?
"Do you plan on finding someone right now?" Lucian Quinn suddenly spoke.
Flora Lane, without thinking, quickly waved her hands, rattling off several excuses: "No, it’s still early, I’m not considering it, I’m busy with work, no time, maybe after graduation."
Seeing her flustered appearance, Lucian Quinn couldn’t help but smile, not taking her obvious refusal seriously, and continued speaking, seemingly unaffected: "I’m twenty-eight, have a stable job, decent income; I’ve bought a car, and for now I’m living with my brother, planning to buy a place on my own after finding someone. If you’re curious about anything else, feel free to ask; I’ll answer everything. If you find it suitable, we could see each other once you graduate?"
