Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 469: No Cheating on Me
Audrey Sutton saw Shane Warner out the door, with Faye Xavier waiting by the car at the roadside.
"Bye, honey!"
Just as Shane was about to get into the car, he paused at her words, turned to look at her, and seeing her smiling face, he couldn’t help but smile back. He gestured for her to come over, saying, "Come here."
Audrey, puzzled, trotted over, "What’s up? Did you forget something?"
Just as she finished speaking, Shane kissed her on the forehead, watching her eyes widen in surprise and not quite knowing how to react, "Go back to sleep some more."
Seeing Faye Xavier smile at them after putting away the luggage, Audrey blushed a little with embarrassment.
When alone with Shane, she dared to tease him a little, but in front of outsiders, she remained reserved.
"Well... be careful on the road."
Shane nodded and got into the car, "Hurry back inside; wearing something so thin might get you a cold."
Audrey stepped back a few paces to the roadside, again instructing him with some concern, "Don’t go flirting outside."
Before Shane could respond, Faye in the passenger seat chuckled, "Don’t worry, sis-in-law, I’ll keep an eye on Master Shane for you."
Audrey mumbled under her breath, "I’m just afraid you’ll lead him astray."
Faye: "Oh come on, sis, I don’t like what you’re implying. I’m a model youth; no chance I’d lead Master Shane astray."
Audrey joked, "If he misbehaves, I’ll hold you accountable."
Faye: "Then I better keep a close watch on Master Shane, can’t have him tarnishing my reputation."
Shane rolled his eyes at him, "Just drive."
"Wait!" Audrey quickly took two steps to the car, bent down, reached into the window, hooked Shane’s neck, gave him a peck on the cheek, then sweetly smiled and said, "I’ll cook something nice for you when you get back."
Shane chuckled, "If you keep this up, I won’t be able to leave."
Faye: "Alright, alright, you two stop being so lovey-dovey. Consider my feelings; closing the window! It’s not like I didn’t get to sleep in, why start my day with this PDA?!"
Audrey laughed, stepping back to the roadside and waved continuously at Shane.
"We’re off, sis-in-law."
Watching Faye drive off, Audrey stood there watching until the car turned a corner, feeling content before going back inside.
Shane felt that with her in his life, leaving home now brought a bit of longing, and also a greater anticipation for coming home.
When he was alone, no matter where he went, he never felt this way.
Having someone to care about, knowing someone cares about him, even the coldest heart might soften.
Even Faye sighed, "Ah, Master Shane, every time I see you and your wife, I think maybe I should find a nice girl and settle down."
Shane scoffed, "Don’t ruin a good girl."
Faye: "That’s exactly it, I’m afraid I’d just find a nice girl for the novelty of it, and then not be able to commit, not wanting to string her along. It’s too hard. I’ll stay single, enjoying a gentle dream every day isn’t bad."
Shane: "You’ll eventually find someone who can handle you."
...
Audrey went back in for a nap, but was woken up around nine by a call from Phoebe King, saying she’d come over for a chat.
Audrey felt that with Shane gone, staying home alone was dull, so she called Bear and the others over for hot pot.
With autumn’s chill, Audrey wrapped herself in a loose sweater.
When Phoebe arrived, she had her drive them to the supermarket directly. Talking about having hot pot later, Phoebe was thrilled, saying, "I’ve been crashing at your brother’s for meals. His tastes are too bland, I’ve been craving hot pot for ages."
Audrey: "You and my brother are practically living together, right? I bet you two will get married by National Day."
Phoebe: "Not a chance. You don’t know how stubborn your brother is. When I ask when he’s going to marry me, he just dodges the question, won’t admit he likes me. So when I went on a blind date the other day..."
Audrey, shocked: "Sister Phoebe, you went on a blind date? Are you giving up on my brother?"
Phoebe: "No, listen, it was a personal trainer introduced by a relative. Couldn’t refuse, so I went just to play along, walked through the motions. I even told your brother about it, to see whether he was truly unbothered or just pretending. When I told him about it, he even encouraged me to go. But the day I went, oh man, you wouldn’t believe how funny it was."
Audrey, intrigued, hurriedly asked: "What happened? Did my brother crash your date?"
Phoebe recalled and couldn’t help laughing, "He pretended to bump into me, introduced himself as my cousin, then just sat next to me, didn’t say a thing, just stared at the trainer. You know your brother’s intense stare from class, it made the trainer so uneasy. The trainer didn’t even finish his coffee before awkwardly making an excuse to leave. Later, he messaged me on WhatsApp, saying my cousin seemed difficult to get along with."
Audrey: "I never thought my brother had such a dark side. He always seemed so upright and honest."
"Honest, my foot. Full of sneaky moves. But I’ll find a way to deal with him. Him getting jealous is a good sign."
Audrey: "Are all men this inarticulate? Shane was the same. Wouldn’t admit he liked me no matter what, I pressed him for ages before he finally confessed."
Phoebe: "Guys like them just need to be dealt with. They think they’re the emperor because we like them, but in reality..."
"What emperor?"
A man’s cold voice came from behind, startling Audrey and Phoebe who were facing the shelves. They quickly turned to look.
"Big brother?!"
"Teacher Sutton? What are you doing here?"
Stephen Sutton glanced at Phoebe, obviously having overheard her earlier comments.
Phoebe instantly transformed from a tiger into a kitten, meekly eyeing the shopping cart he was pushing, and said with an ingratiating smile, "Teacher Sutton, you’re grocery shopping too?"
Stephen: "Didn’t peg you two as the grocery shopping types."
Audrey: "Big brother, you’re underestimating me. I may not be a mother yet, but I’m at least a dutiful wife. Grocery shopping is a piece of cake."
Phoebe also laughed and said, "I might not be a mother yet either, but if Teacher Sutton needs a dutiful wife, I’m willing to learn."
Stephen cast her a sideways glance and said, "Pick what you want to eat, we’ll buy it for the apartment."
