Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 430: Roommates or Living Together?
Micah Morgan had no idea that Phoebe King had a crush on Stephen Sutton. When Phoebe heard him ask her, she chuckled awkwardly and answered, "Oh... right, I have a friend who rented his place and asked me to room with her."
Micah then said, "Why not let your friend stay at my place too? I’m heading abroad in a couple of days, so the room will be vacant. You and your friend can stay there."
Phoebe: "You’re going abroad?"
Micah laughed lightly, a bit embarrassed, and said, "...You never agreed to me, did you? I initially wanted to find a job, settle down, and get married, but now I’ve decided to study abroad a bit more."
The usually shameless Phoebe actually felt a bit embarrassed by what Micah said, as if she had let him down or something.
If she hadn’t met Stephen Sutton before Micah, and had some guy like her this much, she might have agreed to his pursuit, moved away from the chaos of life, and quietly lived a simple life collecting rent with him.
Stephen Sutton leaned against the living room wall, quietly listening to their conversation.
Hearing another man express his feelings for her in front of him, he was actually quite displeased.
Micah: "I actually wanted to come back today to tell you this, but I didn’t expect you to be moving. But since it’s close by, keep the key to my place, and if you or your friend need the room, just stay there."
"Huh? No, no need... We’ve already settled, the houses on campus are in high demand, leaving it empty would be such a waste, you should rent it to someone else," Phoebe said.
Micah smiled and said, "If you’re not staying, rent it out then. Keep the key, and if someone wants to view the room, please show them around. We’ll split the rent 50/50."
Before Phoebe could respond, Stephen Sutton came over and said, "Give me the key. She’s not living here often; if anyone wants to view it, I’ll show them around for you."
Micah was momentarily surprised: "Professor Sutton, you’re home? Then I’ll leave this to you."
Stephen Sutton reached out to take the key Micah handed over and said, "No problem. Your father was also quite helpful to me at the school before."
Micah smiled and said, "Phoebe, you haven’t finished moving your things, right? Let me help you."
Phoebe felt especially embarrassed watching Micah walk into the room across the way, so she immediately followed.
Stephen Sutton, too, followed leisurely.
Micah picked up a large cardboard box by the door; Phoebe quickly went over to help and said, "This is quite heavy, let’s carry it over together."
Micah lightly shook his head and said, "It’s fine, it’s not heavy."
As he spoke, he easily carried the box over toward Stephen Sutton’s place.
Phoebe stood still, watching Stephen Sutton walk in.
Stephen remained silent, just casting her a glance.
Phoebe couldn’t decipher his look but pointed to another cardboard box by the door and said, "There’s another box here."
Stephen walked over, bent down, and picked up the box.
This box was filled with cosmetics, making it heavier than the previous one.
Phoebe didn’t immediately help him lift it, wanting to see if Stephen could handle it. If he struggled, she would lend a hand, but he carried the box away with ease.
Phoebe smiled, holding a pillow and walking alongside him, laughing as she asked, "So, are you okay with me moving over then?"
Stephen: "You’ll still have to pay rent."
Phoebe: "If you have the nerve to charge me, I’ll pay."
Watching Micah bring the box over, Phoebe felt inexplicably guilty and stopped teasing Stephen.
Micah smiled and asked, "Anything else?"
Phoebe shyly smiled: "No, thank you, Morgan."
"Why so formal with me?" Micah said, turning to Stephen, "Professor Sutton, Phoebe is usually quite careless. You should keep an eye on the electricity and gas at home."
Stephen glanced at Phoebe, sensing as if Micah was entrusting Phoebe to his care. Despite not knowing Phoebe long, Micah seemed to understand her habits thoroughly.
"Understood, focus on your studies abroad. If you encounter any academic difficulties, feel free to reach out to me."
"Alright, thanks, Professor Sutton, I’ll go pack my stuff then," Micah said, looking at Phoebe, "Phoebe... see you when I get back."
Phoebe nodded: "Sure, you go ahead. Foreign girls have more charm."
Micah chuckled: "If you get married in the next year or so, be sure to let me know. I’ll make sure to come back for the wedding."
After nodding, Phoebe instinctively glanced at Stephen, sensing that Micah might soon be back for that wedding.
After exchanging a few pleasantries at the door, they each retreated to their rooms.
Once the door closed, Phoebe dropped her shy demeanor from earlier with Micah, slinging an arm around Stephen’s shoulder, and asked, "Teacher Sutton, so are we rooming together or cohabitating now?"
Stephen didn’t respond immediately nor did he remove her arm. Instead, he carried the box into her room, placed it down, freed his hands and then removed her improper hand, looking down at her, "In ancient times, you’d be drowned in a pig cage for this behavior."
Phoebe laughed warmly and replied, "Maybe in a past life, I got drowned for you in a pig cage and was unwilling, so I came in this life to rekindle our fate!"
Stephen turned to walk outside, dropping a line, "Pack up your own things."
Phoebe: "There’s still a box at the door; Teacher Sutton, would you mind helping me with it?"
Stephen didn’t answer but went back to the door, bringing both the box and her suitcase to her room. Without saying anything more, he turned and walked out.
Thinking about living under the same roof with her, he felt a tiny flutter of anticipation.
He wondered what tricks this unruly girl would pull off next.
"Teacher Sutton, I’m already hungry, don’t forget to make dinner," Phoebe called out toward the outside.
Not getting a reply from Stephen, she didn’t mind and cheerfully hummed a little tune while arranging her things.
Soon after, sounds from the kitchen could be heard from outside. Phoebe smiled contently, put her clothes from the suitcase into the wardrobe, and ran to the kitchen first glancing at the meal he was preparing, then said, "My room needs a vanity table."
He was wearing a gray apron, with his sleeves rolled up, washing vegetables under the tap and said, "Which landlord provides a vanity table?"
Phoebe deliberately put her hand under the running faucet to wash up, and he moved the basket of vegetables aside in disdain, hearing her say, "If you don’t provide one, I won’t either, but since you have one in your room, I’ll just use yours in the future."
