Chapter 406: Chapter 406: Mainly Want to See You

Audrey Sutton wrinkled her nose with a hint of disdain: "Can you just act normal? Stop being so flirty."

Shane Warner: "It’s all from the heart."

Audrey Sutton: "Stop! Don’t try that on me, I’m not some girl who can be sweet-talked into anything."

Shane Warner teased, "Of course not, it takes at least two thousand a day to bring you home."

Audrey Sutton corrected him, "That’s what you should pay in rent and living expenses."

The car drove under the sunset, the waves crashing against the stone wall below the highway, making a swishing sound.

Maybe it was because she hadn’t been out in a while, or perhaps because the misunderstanding between them was resolved, Audrey Sutton felt extremely content.

Hazel Yates saw them coming home together and could tell the day’s progress was pretty good.

"Mom, I bought you a dress, try it on later to see if it fits," said Audrey Sutton as she opened the car door.

Hazel Yates smiled and nodded, looking at Shane Warner who got out of the car after her, testing him, "Shane, why don’t you stay for dinner?"

After she spoke, both Hazel Yates and Shane Warner turned their eyes to Audrey Sutton, seemingly afraid she would disagree.

Audrey turned to grab the shopping bags from the back seat, not noticing their gaze, but she heard what Hazel Yates said.

If she disagreed, she would definitely object right away.

Her silence meant she tacitly agreed, especially since they already discussed living expenses in the car.

Shane Warner then smiled and nodded, "Okay, Mom, you rest, I’ll cook later. I’ll go over there to bring my luggage first."

Hazel Yates paused for a moment, seeing Audrey Sutton still searching near the car for something, she whispered to Shane Warner, "Did Audrey stop fussing with you?"

Shane Warner nodded, "Yes, she agreed to let me move in."

Audrey Sutton came over with the dress she bought for Hazel Yates and heard Shane Warner’s words. She complained to Hazel Yates, "He’s staying at Old Man Linton’s house, a thousand a day! I don’t know whether to say Old Man Linton is greedy or Shane is foolish, one daring enough to rent and the other daring enough to stay."

Hazel Yates laughed, speaking up for Shane Warner, "The house has so many empty rooms, if you don’t kick him out, he wouldn’t have to find a place outside."

Audrey Sutton: "There are so many places around for three or five hundred that he could have chosen, but he had to pick such an expensive one. And Old Man Linton is really something, too. Heart’s too dark! He must have thought Shane was a fool to rip him off."

"Alright, enough, let’s go inside, it’s hot out and you don’t want to get heatstroke. Mom brewed some sweet soup, go inside and have a bowl to quench your thirst."

"Mom, remember to try out this dress. Next time Dad comes over, you can wear it when you go to the beach with him."

"Alright, I’ll try it later. Your dad will come in a couple of days, and we can go out together then," Hazel Yates said, as she served Audrey Sutton some sweet soup and asked her, "By the way, are you still planning the wedding between you two?"

Audrey Sutton reached out for the bowl of sweet soup, glanced at Shane Warner, took a sip, and mumbled, "It’s still uncertain."

Hazel Yates exchanged looks with Shane Warner and said, "There’s not much time left until Valentine’s Day. If you’re going to have it, better decide soon, so Mom can prepare and inform everyone to attend."

Audrey Sutton hesitated for two seconds and said, "Let’s talk about it in a couple of days, anyway, the invitations haven’t been sent, plus it’s so hot lately."

Audrey really wanted to use this opportunity to enjoy the chance to boss him around a little longer, she wanted to savor being pursued, something he rarely did before.

After dinner, Shane Warner brought his luggage over.

Hazel Yates cleared a guest room next to Norman Sutton’s for him, and his room and Audrey’s were at opposite ends of the hallway, quite distant.

But ultimately, they were in the same building, so it wasn’t too far.

After showering, Audrey Sutton tried on those new dresses she bought today in her room, totaling seven or eight sets, plus two swimsuits, planning a day at the beach tomorrow.

After learning to swim, she’d only swum in their pool at home, so she was eager to try swimming in the sea.

Before, she avoided water, but now she’s looking forward to playing in the water.

Thinking back now, when he taught her swimming, it felt strange, as he kept saying he couldn’t be by her side always, suggesting she learn to protect herself, yet she didn’t find it strange and thought it was just him helping her grow.

Looks like he had long discovered her hidden little secret, even prepared for the possibility they might not be together.

He really was strange, didn’t allow her to hide things from him, but he always bottled up his own issues without telling her.

"Ding dong—"

Audrey Sutton put down the dress she was comparing, turned to the bed, picked up her phone to check.

Y: Are you asleep?

Audrey Sutton smiled, sat on the bed, typed a reply: Not so soon!

Y: Come upstairs, let’s watch the stars.

Audrey Sutton chuckled, glanced at the ceiling once, disregarded the messy clothes on the bed, grabbed her phone and headed for the rooftop.

A bit past eight, the sky wasn’t completely dark yet, it was indigo-blue, with the moon and stars dotting the blue sky, mysterious and beautiful.

The island had quite a day-night temperature difference, cooling off after sunset.

With a breeze blowing on the rooftop, he wore a dark blue silk shirt standing by the wall, under the rooftop lights the shirt glimmered faintly, looking nice.

Audrey Sutton tiptoed quietly behind him, ready to scare him, but he untimely turned his head, seeing her sneaky posture.

Quite like how she looked when he first saw her on their wedding day, sneaking around too.

Audrey Sutton stood straight, pouted, "Boring."

Shane Warner smiled and said to her, "You’re twenty-one, be mature."

"And you’re almost thirty but watching stars?"

Shane Warner looked at her, smiling, "Mainly wanted to see you."

Audrey Sutton stiffened, her cheeks starting to flush slightly on their own.

He suddenly got direct, she was very unaccustomed, swallowed her saliva, awkwardly shifted the topic, "...Want a drink? I’ll go fetch some."

"Quit drinking."

Audrey Sutton stopped her footsteps to head downstairs, looking at him unbelievingly, "What about smoking?"

Shane Warner: "Quit that too."

Audrey Sutton scoffed, evidently not believing him, reached into his pocket, found only a phone, no cigarette pack or lighter, "Really quit?"

Shane Warner chuckled, used his chin to point downwards, "Put them away while showering, in the room."

Audrey Sutton rolled her eyes, "I knew you were lying."
