Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 151: Can’t Be Bothered With Her Anymore
Shane smiled, simultaneously securing a triple kill with ease.
If it weren’t for the night she confessed her feelings while drunk, he might have really thought a "ghost" liked him.
"Buzz—buzz—" The phone showed an incoming call at the top of the screen but didn’t affect the game.
Shane went over to save the injured Audrey Sutton and said to her, "I need to take a call."
"Okay." Audrey’s tone seemed casual, but she couldn’t help glancing at his phone, failing to see who was calling.
The call was answered directly from the game screen, with the speaker on to avoid affecting the game.
"President Warner, are you resting?" It was Lan Irving’s voice.
Shane replied in a business-like tone, "What’s up?"
"...I’ve organized the design drafts for Starfield. I’m bringing them over now; can you come out to get them?"
Shane paused before saying, "Just have Faye Xavier deliver them to me tomorrow."
"I’m already near your house, but I don’t know the exact location. I’m parked at the bus stop at the intersection; send me the location so I can bring them in for you."
Audrey Sutton distractedly swiped her phone screen, controlling the game character, but her mind was entirely on the call.
"Enter the intersection, take the third left, and you’ll be there." Shane directed over the phone.
Audrey wondered what this little secretary was up to again, always using work as an excuse to get close to Shane.
Now she felt that Lan Irving was even worse than Clarissa Morgan.
Clarissa now only had access to Shane because of Mrs. Sterling’s status, and Shane didn’t necessarily pay her any mind.
But Lan Irving was different; always talking about work, Shane had no choice but to deal with her.
Playing the role of the capable assistant, but secretly scheming something.
After hanging up the call, the game concluded.
There wasn’t any surprise from winning.
Shane might have needed to send some documents to Starfield anyway, planning to hand them to Lan Irving while he’s at it. After the game, he went to organize them at his desk.
Audrey Sutton reached out to rub her injured foot and asked him, "Can I sit on your bed?"
"You can sleep there if you want."
Audrey put on slippers, hobbling towards the bed, saying, "I want to lay my foot flat for comfort."
After speaking, Audrey lifted his grey-blue quilt, burrowed into his bed, leaned on the headboard, adjusted to a comfortable position, and opened the food delivery app on her phone.
She intended to ask him what he wanted to eat but figured he might stop her from ordering barbecue, so she decided to do it first and inform later.
Just as she submitted the order, the doorbell sounded downstairs.
Shane picked up the files from the desk and went downstairs.
After paying, curiosity got the better of Audrey, and she couldn’t sit still on the bed.
She lifted the quilt, grabbed her slippers, and limped to the nearby gym where she could see the front entrance.
Afraid of being discovered, she didn’t turn on the lights. The streetlights outside were bright enough to reveal the gym’s layout clearly.
Peering from the window, she saw a white sedan parked downstairs, presumably with Lan Irving standing in the porch. Leaning out halfway through the window, she still couldn’t see Lan Irving.
She could vaguely hear two people’s voices but couldn’t make out what they were saying.
Minutes passed, and they continued to talk.
Audrey wondered, exchanging files should only take a few seconds, why are they chatting for so long?
If her foot didn’t hurt, she would have dashed downstairs when Lan Irving rang the doorbell.
Making sure that woman wouldn’t even get to see Shane.
The wind chilled Audrey’s face; she was about to close the window when she saw Lan Irving walk out from the porch, directly to her car, open the door, and get in, yet not drive away immediately.
Thinking Shane ought to be coming up, Audrey didn’t dare to linger; she hurriedly shut the window, turned to leave the gym, and heard him coming upstairs.
In a hurry, Audrey ignored the pain in her foot, jogging back to his room, quickly closed the door, and burrowed into the quilt as if nothing had happened, focusing on her phone.
Seeing him enter, she maintained a composed appearance and looked up. "You’re back? You were downstairs for so long; I thought you two went out for a late-night snack."
As Shane walked into the room, he said, "Wouldn’t I have taken you with me?"
"I wouldn’t go. She only wants to date you, not me."
Shane didn’t continue with the banter, saying, "Weren’t you saying you were hungry? What do you want to eat? I recall there’s some minced meat in the fridge; how about I make you some porridge?"
Audrey immediately felt no appetite, mumbling, "Plain and bland, not tasty."
"Should I add a couple of spoons of Douban paste?"
"Doesn’t sound appetizing." Audrey glanced at his expression and said, "I’ve already ordered food."
"What did you order?" He remained calm, his tone gentle.
Audrey’s face lit up with a faint smile, her eyes subtly fawning as she said, "Barbecue."
After saying it, she expected him to scold her, but he just responded with an "Mmm" and went to the desk with the files he had received from Lan Irving.
"You’re not angry?"
Shane pulled out the chair by the desk, sat down, and, while glancing at the files, said, "Why would I be? You’ve already ordered it; just eat it if you can handle it."
Listening to his understanding and considerate tone, the more Audrey heard, the more uneasy she felt.
It sounded like he no longer cared, letting her be, whether she ate or didn’t, he couldn’t be bothered.
Audrey realized she was truly conflicted; when he nagged her, she’d listen with one ear and let it out with the other, annoyed. Now that he doesn’t interfere, she’s even more unsettled.
Seeing him intently reviewing the design drafts, Audrey restlessly sat on the bed, took a few minutes, then thought of a topic to ask him, "Are you playing more games later?"
He glanced up at her and said, "You ordered food, didn’t you? Let’s talk after you eat."
Audrey stared at him for several seconds, unable to tell if he was genuinely not angry or just pretending.
Watching him refocus on the pile of design drafts, Audrey refrained from disturbing him further.
She yawned, looked at her food delivery status; it hadn’t started distribution, it wouldn’t come quickly.
So she snuggled into the quilt, laid on his pillow. The quilt smelled faintly of his usual cologne, a scent so subtle it was almost indiscernible yet lingered, sparking a curiosity to take a deep breath and explore its fragrance.
Enveloped in the aroma, Audrey slowly closed her eyes.
