Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling is Multifaceted!-Chapter 292: Descending into Chaos
But Ethan Sterling is so smart, how could he believe this was just because of joint pain?
Seraphina Redgrave touched her left shoulder and told him the truth, "It’s a gunshot wound."
"..."
Ethan’s gaze fell on her shoulder. He raised his hand to touch it but worried about causing her pain, so he let it drop powerlessly. He looked at Miles Harrington, his eyes devoid of emotion, just calmly watching. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"Let me talk to you."
"Alright."
Miles felt a chill down his spine from Ethan’s gaze.
"Go to the cell where she was being held." Ethan said flatly.
"Okay... okay."
Miles’ voice trembled slightly.
Only then did Ethan look at Seraphina, "You wait here for a while. I’ll sort this out quickly and then take you home."
"Okay." Seraphina nodded obediently.
Ethan leaned closer to her, his right hand gently brushing her hair, his voice tender as water, "If anyone dares to harm you again, I’ll annihilate their entire family."
"..."
Everyone exchanged glances, remaining silent.
Seraphina was helped by Ethan to sit on a chair. She watched Ethan follow Miles inside, feeling an inexplicable panic in her heart.
Seraphina could sense that Ethan was running on sheer willpower right now. His injuries were much worse compared to hers and should receive immediate medical attention.
She had so many questions to ask him, but now was not the time.
The only wish she had at this moment was for Ethan’s wounds to heal quickly.
...
The door to the cell was opened. What met Ethan’s eyes was utter darkness, so dark that the end of the room couldn’t be seen, the heavy oppression washing over him, very discomforting.
The iron chains in the four corners dangled on the ground.
Ethan strode inside, immediately noticing the chains, as well as the handcuff and shackle positions that still had undried blood. A familiar candy jar was placed by the wall, surrounded by a heap of candy wrappers.
If he hadn’t gone all out to return to the country, hadn’t gone to save Seraphina, then this cell would have been the last place with Seraphina’s traces that he would see.
Looking at those four chains, Ethan’s blood began to roar.
"How did you manage to return to the country?"
Miles looked at him, dirty and smelly all over, with countless ragged spots, thought for a moment, and then took off his own jacket, intending to drape it over Ethan.
Before he could put it on, Ethan pushed it away, and in the next second, he clenched his fist and punched Miles directly in the face.
The punch was heavy. Miles tasted blood in his mouth and staggered backward, crashing into the wall.
Ethan wanted to go after him and beat him up, but Miles also felt anger rising and swung his fist at Ethan’s face.
However, before the punch could reach Ethan’s face, he punched Miles in the stomach, causing him to bend over in pain, holding his stomach, his face extremely pale.
"Bang!"
Ethan forcefully pinned Miles to the wall.
The fight was taking a toll on Ethan too. He spat blood and wiped it away carelessly, then reached out and pinned Miles tightly, his eyes filled with murderous intent, "Miles Harrington, who gave you the courage to touch my woman, are you tired of sitting in the President’s office?"
He had still chosen to come back for revenge.
Miles was awkwardly restrained by Ethan, the glasses that made him look so refined now misshaping.
His ongoing worries had turned into pure rage.
He had tried to avoid clashing with Ethan, but this time, he couldn’t hold back any longer.
"Ethan! I’m doing it for the sake of our country!"
He shouted hysterically, his face flushed red.
Ethan sneered, "In this country, who would sacrifice their own interests for the country? What are you pretending about?"
He was implying that Miles was being sanctimonious. He claimed it was for protecting the country, but it was actually to safeguard his own interests and avoid unrest during his term.
Miles closed his eyes briefly, "Fine, you say I’m doing it for my own interests, then what about you? The greatest tycoon of Z country, are you abandoning your interests?"
He had made himself look like this to come back, risking everything to save someone who ought to die. Was he giving up on his own interests?
Upon hearing this, Ethan’s grip on Miles’ head tightened, "My only interest has three words — Seraphina Redgrave."
"..."
Miles was shocked.
Ethan, the most powerful and influential person in Z country, was telling him now that his greatest interest was a woman?
"So, Miles Harrington, I went to great lengths to get you into the President’s seat to protect my interests, but now you’ve caused her such harm, tampered with my interest, tell me, how should we settle this?"
Ethan’s voice was icy, as if he could kill him in the next second.
"..."
Miles remained incredulous, his face pressed against the wall, frozen for a long time before finding his voice again, "Just a woman? Is she truly that important to you?"
Important enough to forsake everything he currently possessed, forsake the wealth others could never attain in a lifetime.
Ethan kicked behind Miles’ knee, then released him and walked over to the chair fetched by his subordinates for Miles earlier, sitting down and wiping the blood from his lip.
Miles took off his broken glasses, standing in front of him with helplessness in his eyes.
"So, what do you plan to do? Those wealthy magnates and officials outside, how are you going to explain this to them?"
"Explain to them? Are they worthy?" Ethan spoke with arrogance.
Miles gripped his glasses as if he was about to snap the legs off, "As long as Seraphina is alive, there will be no peace outside. They’ll unite against you, even your own father will step on you."
"That’s good." Ethan’s voice was calm. He said, "This time I returned with the intention of making the secrets of Veridian Isle public, so, the tycoons of Z country need to reshuffle."
"!"
Miles was shocked. He widened his eyes at Ethan, "Are you crazy? Are you going to help Veridian Isle and speak for them now?"
Would he stand by and watch as Z country fell into chaos again?
"The people of Veridian Isle living or dying have nothing to do with me."
Ethan’s words were cold. His eyes fixed on Miles, fingers stroking the tattoo on his wrist, his voice carrying a hint of tenderness, "I only know my woman has been wronged."
"..."
Miles stood there, somewhat stiff.
"Since you chose the tycoons, chose peace, then I choose Seraphina. I want to plunge this country back into chaos."
He paused, "That way, you can atone for the wrongs you’ve committed against my woman."
Miles couldn’t believe these words were coming from his mouth, "Ethan, do you know what you’re saying right now?"
Ethan slowly stood up, facing Miles. His bloodshot eyes locked onto him, and his thin lips curled up, as arrogant as ever, "When you hurt my woman, you should have known this day would come."
