Chapter 189: Chapter 189: Selena Quinn Blocks the Arrow

Seraphina Redgrave’s face was pressed against Ethan Sterling’s chest, and whether it was because she was unable to breathe, Seraphina felt her mind go blank.

She looked up incredulously and saw Ethan’s brows knitted tightly and his teeth clenched.

"Are you hurt?"

Did he block an arrow for her?

Is Ethan an idiot?

"Let’s go."

Ethan raised his hand and fired two shots upstairs, pulling Seraphina down the stairs.

The assassin hadn’t completed his mission and was chasing closely behind them.

Ethan kicked open the door to the safety corridor, pulled Seraphina back to the hallway, then kicked the door shut behind them.

Seraphina was being pulled forward by Ethan. She looked over and saw an arrow deeply embedded in Ethan’s shoulder blade, only the tail of the arrow visible now.

The flames had died down, but there were still scorch marks on Ethan’s clothes.

Looking at Ethan’s sharp profile, Seraphina’s heart began to race.

They rushed to the front of the ancient artifacts exhibition gallery, large and cold, with display cases embedded into the walls, offering no places to hide.

Ethan led Seraphina to the center of the exhibition area, positioning her against the wall simulating an ancient tomb chamber.

Behind them lay the eerie, cold tomb.

This was it—the confrontation with the assassin.

Ethan lowered his head, his eyes ice-cold; he swiftly removed the magazine and reloaded a full one.

The whole time, he never let go of Seraphina’s hand.

It was as if letting go meant she would immediately vanish.

Seraphina watched as her hand followed Ethan’s, moving and picking up the scent of gunpowder.

His grip on the gun tightened, his breathing increased, and Seraphina knew it was because of the arrow wound on his shoulder and couldn’t help but say, "Give me the gun."

"Are you insane?"

Ethan looked at Seraphina, his eyes filled with ruthlessness. How dare she, reeking of alcohol, try to duel an assassin wielding a sleeve arrow?

Seraphina frowned; she just thought that since Ethan was already injured, it should be her turn to step up.

Seraphina asked, "Where are your bodyguards?"

Where did the bodyguards who were always by his side disappear to? 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

Perhaps because of his injury, Ethan’s mood was particularly bad. Leaning against the railing, he ground his teeth and said, "If not for you, would I be here alone?"

And taking an arrow.

If he had brought all the bodyguards, wouldn’t everyone have found out about her identity?

Seraphina frowned, not knowing what to say.

Probably because the wound started hurting, Ethan suddenly flinched, his gaze flickering briefly. Seeing this, Seraphina spoke again, "Give me the gun."

As long as she could hit the assassin, she could survive, at least better than Ethan risking his life while injured.

Ethan stood still, not speaking, his forehead covered in cold sweat.

The assassin was quickly catching up to them.

"Ethan, the gun..."

"I told you, stay behind me!"

Ethan shouted hysterically, his amber eyes locked onto her, like the next bullet would hit Seraphina if she moved, his entire aura threatening.

Seraphina froze, standing numb in place.

Ethan, seemingly unsatisfied, pulled her into his arms, looking down at her: "Seraphina, would letting your man help you really put your life at risk?"

Seraphina stood rigidly, looking at her reflection in Ethan’s eyes. Her hair was half wet and she looked a mess.

They were so close, she could feel Ethan’s every trembling breath, even each strand of her hair shivered.

He looked at Seraphina, and the atmosphere around him changed.

The assassin arrived.

His gaze turned cold, the bloodthirsty look flickering with a hint of red. He leaned on the railing and raised his gun.

The assassin held up his sleeve arrow, slowly entering the gallery, unable to clearly see the surroundings, inching his way forward, scanning every potential hiding spot.

This was a professional assassin.

Not even a trace of the man’s presence could be felt.

Seraphina didn’t move but felt Ethan’s hand squeeze hers tightly.

Between experts, even an unknown position can be discerned by breathing.

Seraphina quietly leaned against the wall, only slowly seeing the tip of a shoe appear within her view.

Ethan’s gun extended towards a specific area.

The tip of the assassin’s shoe shifted direction, likely honing in on their location.

The battle was about to erupt.

"Bang!"

The door not far from Ethan and Seraphina burst open, a slender figure entering. Selena Quinn stood at the entrance, looking at Ethan in surprise, "Ethan, what are you doing here?"

Ethan’s expression immediately changed.

In the next moment, Selena spotted the assassin and his sleeve arrow, her eyes widening in terror.

"No!"

Selena’s expression suddenly steeled as she rushed towards Ethan.

Ethan stepped out.

"Bang!"

The gunshot faded, leaving only the echoing sound in the open space.

Everything finally fell silent.

In the void of silence, Seraphina stepped out from behind Ethan, looking ahead, and saw the assassin lying on the ground, a large swath of red spread across his chest, still bleeding out, eyes closed, with no strength left to resist.

And lying between the assassin and Ethan was Selena, an arrow embedded in her chest.

Blood spread from her chest, dyeing her dress red.

She had taken an arrow for Ethan.

Selena lay on the ground, her face devoid of color, clutching her wound, painfully speaking to Ethan, managing a difficult smile, "As long as...as long as Ethan is okay..."

Before finishing her sentence, Selena closed her eyes, her head dropping to the ground as she fainted.

Her dress spread out on the ground, like a blooming flower.

Even her fainting was beautiful.

Seraphina stood still, coldly observing everything before her, noting Ethan’s expression. He was staring at the fallen Selena in shock.

Touched, wasn’t he?

Seeing someone disregard their own life, just to keep him from harm, how could one not be moved?

Seraphina would only ever put him in danger, while Selena loved him enough to die for him.

The timing and place of Selena’s appearance were just too perfect.

Right now, Seraphina even admired Selena a bit; she knew exactly what to do and when, as if everything was within her plan, leaving others powerless.

The gallery was frighteningly silent, not a sound to be heard.

"Young Master Sterling! Miss!"

Nathan Ayers arrived late, his face full of remorse. He looked at the two people lying on the ground, stunned for several seconds.

"Check if they’re dead. If not, drag them away for questioning. This one..."
