Chapter 177: Chapter 177: I Want to Look at You

Ethan Sterling leaned back in his chair, his face expressionless. He lightly tapped his earphones, which played the entire content of Sovereign College’s student conference.

Seraphina Redgrave connected her Bluetooth earphones and didn’t hang up the call, so Ethan listened to the live conference.

From bringing the sponsors into the meeting to cleverly battling wits with the dean and the teachers, each step was a precise defense and strike, even the time was well calculated. The Defiance Society was established without any suspense.

It seemed the thirty days he gave Seraphina was too much.

No wonder she’s someone he has his eye on; she’s got some skills.

She’s quite like him, isn’t she?

As Ethan listened to Seraphina’s voice over the earphones, he couldn’t help but curl his lips, his eyes turning gentle.

Nathan Ayers and the driver glanced at the man in the back seat and exchanged a look.

Not to make too big a fuss about it.

The usual, the usual.

After all, Young Master Sterling was no longer the same as he was back then.

One second, Ethan was still smiling, but the next second, his eyes instantly turned cold.

Hector Shaw.

She could think of that man entrenched in the South, yet she didn’t consider him at all, and even made a bet with him?

Doesn’t she realize that if he truly did not want to see her do what she wanted, how could Seraphina make a name for herself in Sovereign?

Ethan impatiently loosened his tie and looked out the window.

Not far away was a couple seemingly having an argument. The man held on to the woman unwilling to let go, while the woman was trying to struggle free, her face full of disgust.

As the car stopped at the red light, Ethan glanced at them, just about to look away when he heard the man’s nearly tearful voice saying, "I regret it now. I shouldn’t have let you go pursue your career. Now that you’re getting more and more capable, you’re starting to despise me, you’re not wanting me anymore... But how can you forget, it was because of me that your career got on track in the first place."

Ethan paused for a moment, opening the car window slightly.

The woman once again pushed the man away, laughing cruelly, "How can you be so foolish? All my efforts were to break free from your constraints."

"What do you mean?" The man froze, mumbling in response.

"I don’t like you; being with you is just because of the power you hold. To achieve my goals, I had to do this."

The woman stood facing the man, speaking word by word, "I’ve worked tirelessly day and night so that one day I could break free from you, and now that I’m standing so high, you can no longer control me."

"Eve..."

"Don’t call my name. Do you know how nauseous I feel when you say those two words?" The woman furrowed her brow, looking at the man, "Stay away from me. Seeing you makes me sick."

The red light changed.

The driver started the car.

Ethan looked at the rearview mirror, the quarrel between the couple fading into the distance behind the car, the woman turning around and leaving, while the man remained there, shouting in anguish.

"The reasons for young couples breaking up are getting stranger and stranger," Nathan Ayers remarked, evidently having also seen the couple’s argument and couldn’t help but speak.

"Would a woman work hard to escape a man’s constraints?"

The man’s voice echoed inside the cabin.

Nathan instinctively felt that this topic wasn’t quite right and immediately turned around, only to see the man’s hair disheveled by the wind coming in through the car window, with eyes that had darkened.

Nathan was about to speak, but didn’t say anything in the end.

Young Master Sterling was still uneasy about the young lady.

In truth, Ethan wasn’t really asking Nathan a question; it was just that an abrupt drop in car cabin pressure made it difficult for anyone to breathe.

It was nighttime.

Seraphina Redgrave, after taking a shower, went to the study to coordinate some of the work for The Defiance Society. She had only completed half of it when the sound of a supercar’s engine came from outside.

It was Ethan’s car.

Seraphina felt a bit tense. Earlier that day, she had just taken off her earphones and gave up on talking to him, wondering if Ethan would be angry when he got back.

Thinking of this, Seraphina still put down her work and walked out of her room.

Seraphina passed through the living room, about to go downstairs to meet Ethan, when she suddenly sensed something and turned her head.

The living room was quiet, and there was someone sitting on the sofa.

A faint glow of light revealed an extraordinarily handsome face emerging in the darkness.

Ethan had already come up.

He sat on the sofa, holding a cigarette, a small red ember resting on the armrest.

Smoke curled through the night air.

"Seraphina."

His voice was entirely hoarse.

He didn’t seem very happy.

Seraphina slowly walked toward him, standing in front of him, ready to explain the already prepared excuse: "I once saved Hector Shaw’s life. It’s only right that he sponsors me..."

"Come here." Ethan fixed his gaze on Seraphina in the dim light, his voice low and hoarse, "I want to look at you."

His voice gave no indication of whether he was angry or not.

Seraphina quietly stood where she was, looking into his amber eyes.

After a while, she sighed and crouched down in front of him.

Ethan sat on the sofa, holding a cigarette, his eyes locked onto Seraphina.

She had already washed up, emitting a faint scent of body wash.

Seraphina wore a white nightdress, making her skin appear even fairer, causing one’s heart to flutter.

She was naturally pure, her eyes also clear.

Her whole face seemed to have "obedience" written all over it, completely non-threatening.

She loves him; otherwise, she wouldn’t have shot Ryan Sterling or told him that his DNA was just an ordinary ailment.

But to claim she loves him, yet she won’t obediently stay by his side, insisting on rebuilding instead.

Is the people within the forbidden zone so important to her? Or is it merely an excuse, an excuse to escape his control?

When she fully grows up, she’ll be like that woman on the street, hurting him, abandoning him, not even willing to look at him.

Seraphina felt a chill under Ethan’s gaze, just about to speak, but she was silenced by Ethan’s touch on her face.

Ethan’s body temperature was perpetually warm, roaming over Seraphina’s body, triggering wave after wave of goosebumps.

Seraphina lowered her head, watching as his finger moved downward, finally stopping beneath her chin, obscured by Ethan’s inscrutable thoughts.

Is he angry?

What’s the meaning of this now?

Seraphina somewhat couldn’t comprehend as Ethan gradually moved closer to her, pressing her in.

The scent of tobacco enveloped their breaths. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

As the cigarette in Ethan’s mouth nearly touched Seraphina’s face, he reached out and took away the cigarette, looking at Seraphina, speaking slowly, "Seraphina, now you want to leave..."

"Here you go."

Seraphina, already feeling tired of concealing things and crouching for so long, didn’t want to hide anything anymore, directly handing something to Ethan.

Ethan lowered his head. In Seraphina’s hand was a small transparent plastic box containing a slice of cream cake, seemingly cut from a larger cake.
