Chapter 40 -40 His Love 2_1

Mu Yingchen led the stunned Su Wanxia to the bridgehead, wrapping her soft small hand within his broad, warm palm.

He guided her slowly onto the lavish bridge body, where the colorful lights made the world around them as bright as day. Both sides of the bridge were adorned with roses of every hue—red ones seductive, pink ones delicate, white ones pure, and yellow ones gentle. The overwhelming fragrance was dizzying, making her feel as if she were standing in a sea of flowers.

Su Wanxia suppressed the pounding in her heart, astonished at everything before her, and let Mu Yingchen lead her step by step up the bridge.

Her mind involuntarily conjured up a memory that had once excited her—

“Su Wanxia! I love you!”

The cold and indifferent man stood atop the towering arch bridge, proclaiming his love loudly over the vast expanse of the South-to-North Water Transfer Project river. His voice echoed between the riverbanks, leaving her immediately in tears.

She had chased after him for a year and had at last heard these words.

At some point, her once proud heart had been seized by him. In her youthful arrogance, she had wagered herself in a dramatic bet.

She may have won against Yan Yirou and a few other heartless close friends, but she had lost the heart she had guarded for eighteen years.

He said, “South-to-North Water, unstoppable by storm or rain.”

She said, “Swimming against the current, vowed never to part.”

But—–

Suddenly, she snapped out of her reverie and halted. A large, brilliant blue poppy appeared before her, its petals blooming in a spectacular array, resplendent and alluring.

Her heart trembled slowly, her eyes stinging with a sour ache. Since she had seen this arch bridge, she had been restraining herself, holding back a million reasons not to lose in front of him the choice she had made long ago, the perseverance she had maintained for so many years.

Mu Yingchen extended his slender fingers and gently pulled a single red rose from the heart of the vast blue poppies, curling his gorgeous lips in a gesture that left Su Wanxia stunned.

He gracefully bent down, kneeling on one knee, his obsidian-like eyes looking at Su Wanxia with deep affection as he slowly offered the flower to her.

Su Wanxia stared speechless at the noble and elegant man before her. Why? Why would he do this?

Mu Yingchen, seeing the disbelief in the eyes of the woman before him, bitterly curved his mouth into a smile. He hadn’t expected to make such a gesture, not realizing when he had changed from the person he used to be.

He sighed silently in his heart and parted his thin lips, pouring out lavish, entwining words:

“Perhaps the me of the past was too indifferent, leaving you feeling cold.”

“Perhaps the me of the past didn’t understand romance, causing you silent frustration.”

“Perhaps the me of the past was too proud, making you chase after me constantly.”

“I can learn all these things, I can change, but—I can’t be without you!”

“Wanwan, come back to me!”

The heartfelt words from Mu Yingchen caused Su Wanxia’s tears to break through their dams instantly, her heart wrenching tightly. He was so honorable, so proud, so conceited, so strong—why would he do this for her?

She wasn’t worth him changing anything! She wasn’t!

Yet her hand, beyond her command, reached out shakily and received the flower from him. The language of a single rose: You are my only one.

Just as Su Wanxia took the flower from Mu Yingchen, she was suddenly pulled into a tight embrace, as if he wanted to meld her into his body.

Mu Yingchen, excited, held the person in his arms and whispered gently into her ear, “Wanwan, I love you!”

Su Wanxia’s tears flowed even more torrentially as she opened her red lips silently to mouth a few words: I love you too!

But Mu Yingchen didn’t see, nor could he possibly hear; he was now in a state of utter joy, feeling as if his entire heart was brimming over, the corners of his mouth curving into an even more captivating smile.

The feeling of holding her in his arms was like possessing the most precious treasure in the world.

Suddenly, deafening sounds came from both sides of the wide riverbank. Su Wanxia and Mu Yingchen both looked up as countless dazzling fireworks burst forth in the night sky—brief and beautiful, gone in a flash.

Mu Yingchen looked down, his eyes intensely hot as he gazed at Su Wanxia, her face streaked with tears. He gently pressed his thin lips to those beautiful eyes, softly kissing away the tear drops that broke his heart, barely touching her cute nose like a dragonfly skimming water, and finally landing on those cherry blossom-like soft and sweet red lips.

Su Wanxia’s body shivered slightly, and then she slowly closed her eyes, her hands instinctively wrapping around his neck, entwining passionately with him.

Beneath the firelight, on the flower bridge, two figures clung tightly to each other, kissing with deep, forgetful passion, as if using all their strength to convey their love to each other.

The bridge, the bridge… it was uncertain whether it had conveyed his love or her sorrow!

Su Wanxia’s tears kept flowing non-stop, as if her tear ducts had burst, and she couldn’t stop them no matter what. Mu Yingchen was thrown into a panic, gently wiping away the sparkling tear drops, tenderly comforting her.

“Wanwan, please don’t cry, okay?”

“Did I do something wrong?”

“My dear, could you say something, please?”

It would have been better if Mu Yingchen had remained silent; as soon as he spoke, Su Wanxia burst into uncontrollable crying, sobbing in his arms as if to vent all the grievances buried in her heart over the years.

Mu Yingchen’s mind was completely thrown into chaos; he didn’t know which words he had spoken wrong that made her cry nonstop, and he comforted the person in his arms with even more cautious tenderness.

While Mu Yingchen was trying every possible way to coax Su Wanxia on this side, a small commotion was happening at the banquet—

Ji Hua and Mu Chuyang saw Mu Yingchen leave them behind with Su Wanxia and walked away nonchalantly; the two immediately complained to each other, then dejectedly went to find Mu Feng and the others.

Mu Chuyang was the first to see Mu Feng and Kang Xiaolan’s group and immediately shouted excitedly, “Hi, Rourou!”

“Pfft!” Yan Yirou was sipping the red wine in her glass when she heard such a cheesy nickname and sprayed it out abruptly as she couldn’t swallow it smoothly.

“Cough, cough—”

“Yirou, are you okay?” Jian Manhui and Kang Xiaolan looked at her with a bit of amusement.

Luckily, they were all far enough away not to be contaminated by her wine mixed with saliva.

Yan Yirou rolled her eyes and glared fiercely at Mu Chuyang, who was laughing indecently.

“Wow, I didn’t expect you to get so excited seeing me. Am I handsomer again?” Mu Chuyang made an exaggerated gesture.

Immediately, he was met with eye-rolls from everyone at the table.

“Comrades, am I not much handsomer than him?” Ji Hua shamelessly popped up from behind and blocked Mu Chuyang’s front.

“Clang”

Gong Yining’s cup fell onto the table; fortunately, there was not much water left in it, so it didn’t spill onto anyone.

The smile on Ji Hua’s face suddenly froze as he looked at the person who was a bit panicked while picking up the cup. His heart, which had been still for a long time, began to thump wildly.
