Chapter 992: Chapter 992: How Could She Think of Him?!

Ann Vaughn’s gaze flickered slightly, but before she could speak, she was pulled into a cold, fragrant embrace.

The unique scent of Cyrus Hawthorne enveloped her like a delicate web, tender yet undeniably powerful, confining her within.

In a daze, a sense of familiarity surged to her mind.

Quinn...

The name suddenly surfaced in Ann Vaughn’s mind.

She shivered instinctively and pushed Cyrus Hawthorne away with some force.

Ann didn’t dare to meet Cyrus’s eyes directly; her mind felt like a chaotic stampede, utterly confused.

How could she be in James Vaughn’s arms, yet thinking of another man...

And the name Quinn, why did it resemble that of her ex-husband, Cyrus Hawthorne?

Oh God, why did she think of him?!

"What’s wrong?" Cyrus asked, lowering his gaze, seeing her blushing face. He thought maybe he hugged her too tightly and she couldn’t breathe, so he raised his hand to pat her back gently.

Without thinking, Ann instinctively avoided his touch.

Cyrus’s hand paused mid-air, his gaze deepening as he fixed it on Ann’s face.

Ann realized she had overreacted and shrank back guiltily, her thoughts tangled and chaotic.

"I’m sorry, my mind’s a bit jumbled right now. I want to be alone for a bit." Ann lowered her eyes, clutching the soft quilt tightly and spoke softly.

Cyrus furrowed his brows slightly, his probing gaze resting on her face, eyes narrowing.

What was the little one feeling guilty about?

"You haven’t eaten in three days. It’s not too late to be alone after you eat." Cyrus nonchalantly withdrew his gaze, speaking softly, "I’ll have the maid bring up lunch. Eat a bit, alright?"

In her amnesiac state, Ann obviously didn’t know that no matter how well she concealed her feelings, Cyrus could see right through her.

Hearing that he didn’t seem to care about the earlier incident, she couldn’t help but feel relieved.

"Okay." Ann nodded.

Seeing her obedient manner, Cyrus initially wanted to pat her head, but recalling her earlier reaction, he restrained himself and rose to leave.

Once he was out, Ann relaxed completely, sinking into the pillow like she had no bones, silently berating herself for what had happened.

This wasn’t right.

She liked James Vaughn, that was for sure. But why did she feel a flutter when she thought of "Quinn"...

Could it be that before she lost her memory, she actually liked Cyrus Hawthorne?

Holy crap!

Stop that!!

Ann hit her own head with her hand, "Ann Vaughn, get a grip! You can’t be fickle, two-timing, and emotionally promiscuous!"

Out of nowhere, Ann suddenly felt a little scared about regaining her memory.

If her guess turned out to be true, how would she face James Vaughn?

Ann, feeling troubled, ruffled her long hair, and picked up the phone from beside her pillow, turning it on and logging into WeChat.

The interface froze for a moment, and then the sound of "ding dong, ding dong" started ringing and continued for a full half minute before stopping.

Ann rubbed her ears and opened Susie Sommers’s chat window.

—Foxy Susie on the Run: Oh heavens! Your Majesty!! You nearly missed seeing your cute and charming bestie!

Seeing Susie’s WeChat name, Ann felt a slight headache. When would she ever stop changing her WeChat name daily?

The messages were sent a few days ago. Ann glanced at the date and realized it was the night Susie went to the hotel.

Ann vaguely sensed something amiss and continued reading.

The more she read, the more shocked she became.

The meet-up Rhonda Pierce proposed to Susie was a complete setup. From the moment Susie entered the hotel, she felt something was wrong. When she prepared to leave, a man grabbed her from behind and carried her to bed.

Their intentions were obvious.

Susie was utterly frightened at that moment, but luckily she remembered the necklace Ann had given her. In a panic, she pressed the mechanism on it, releasing a sedative that immediately knocked the man out.

In such a situation, an ordinary person would consider escaping immediately.

But Susie didn’t.

Not only did she not leave, but she also waited by the door, until her legs almost went numb, waiting for someone to come into the room.

Susie brashly knocked the person unconscious, only to find out it was her nemesis, Leona Chambers!

She was holding a pretty good camera, and one could guess what she intended to do.

Susie, in for a dime, in for a dollar, treated Leona as she deserved, throwing her onto the bed before making her escape.

But it didn’t end there. Susie wasn’t the type to return kindness with more kindess; she believed in getting back at those who wronged her.

After leaving the suite, Susie made calls to people of The Moore Family and The Chambers Family.

—Foxy Susie on the Run: I told them Leona Chambers was having suicidal thoughts. Within five minutes, a large group rushed over, opened the room door, and oh boy, they were dumbfounded.

After this incident, Leona Chambers would likely behave for a long while and not bother her anymore.

Ann laughed out loud and replied to her: You really are a little genius.

Susie happened to be online and replied immediately: Of course, I didn’t even want to deal with her, but she kept coming to my face. Does she take me for a pushover? But it’s just...

—Rose Cloud: Just what?

—Foxy Susie on the Run: Don’t be mad at me, I didn’t mean it... I was too scared in the moment, and didn’t notice the necklace dropped. I went back later to find it, but it was nowhere to be found.

—Rose Cloud: No big deal? Kenny made many of them. I’ll talk to him, he’d probably be happy to give his godmother a few.

—Foxy Susie on the Run: Shocked, it was actually handmade by J.B.?! Damn, Leona is such a vexing piece of work, it makes me furious!

Ann didn’t quite understand why she got even angrier and comforted her with a few words, then saw a notification pop up at the top of the screen.

Clicking it, she saw it was a shared post from Joyce Chancellor’s Moments.

"Pretending to be her sister to marry into a wealthy family, shamelessly clinging to a man who doesn’t love you, you live such an pathetic life!"

It looked like clickbait, and the content was likely very different from the title.

Just as Ann was about to exit, she saw a familiar name appear in the article below.

Her slender fingers paused as she continued scrolling through the screen, growing more alarmed as she read on.

The heinous woman climbing the social ladder through deceit, impersonating another, even usurping someone else’s fiancé—all these allegations—

How could it be under her name?!

"No, no, no, this is impossible." Ann shook her head repeatedly in denial. There were plenty of people with similar names; how could this mean it was her?! 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Yet in the next second, when she saw the term "Hawthorne Group CEO," the smile vanished completely from Ann’s face.
