Chapter 1014: Chapter 1014: Then Just Remarry

"Hahaha, darling, you’re just so lovable, even the dog you’ve never met before likes you so much."

"Kenny doesn’t like this dummy." Little Dumpling pounced onto Ann Vaughn’s lap, puffing out a huffy little voice, "Kenny likes Mommy!"

This huff was so adorable it nearly melted Ann Vaughn’s heart.

If only he were really her son... how wonderful that would be.

She suddenly felt a bit envious of Kenny’s mommy, wondering how someone could have such an adorable little treasure.

"Mommy loves Kenny the most too." Ann Vaughn cradled the Little Dumpling’s cheek and kissed it, then took his hand to head towards the farmhouse, "We’ve been out too long, time to head back. Milo, let’s go."

Milo was the name of the sheepdog, reportedly because its owner’s love for various milos surpassed even that for his wife, hence the name...

"Okay!"

"Woof woof!"

Shortly, they reached the farmhouse.

The cottage retained the distinctive charm of Red Queen Town, with red roofs and white walls arranged beautifully, not crowded together, looking from afar like vibrant red mushrooms sprouting on the lawn, small and exquisite.

At first sight, Ann Vaughn thought she had somehow stumbled into a fairy tale wonderland.

Who would have thought that amid the bustling, towering structures of The Imperial Capital, there was such an untouched place here.

Just as they approached the mushroom house where they were temporarily staying, Ann Vaughn overheard a quarrel coming from inside.

"You’re being absolutely unreasonable!"

"Ha, I’m the unreasonable one! So it’s my fault the milk didn’t sell? Clearly, you’re the incompetent one, always focusing on milo milo milo! Why weren’t you reincarnated as a piece of milo instead!"

"And that’s my fault? Weren’t you the one who said that milk supplier was trustworthy and kept pushing me to sign the contract? Now that something’s wrong, it’s all my fault? What was I thinking marrying such a narrow-minded woman like you!"

"You regret marrying me, well, I regret marrying a dimwit like you! Had I known, I’d rather have married a piece of milo than you, you bastard!"

"Then why don’t you just remarry! Over all these years, you haven’t even birthed a milo, let alone a child!"

Sigh...

Ann Vaughn felt slightly embarrassed; this couple’s argument was truly... unique.

The argument grew fiercer until they saw Ann Vaughn returning with Kenny, and then they stopped. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"Annie, Kenny, you’re back? How was your outing?" The farm owner, Ed, turned around, awkwardly greeting them.

Ed’s wife, Teresa Grant, turned around to wipe her eyes and also greeted them.

Ann Vaughn pretended she hadn’t seen anything earlier, smiling and nodding, "The scenery here is beautiful, truly refreshing."

"As long as you like it. We’re about to start dinner, care to join us?" Teresa Grant smiled gently, showing no hint of the fiery demeanor she had shown earlier.

"Thank you for having us."

Since living here wasn’t free and the cost wasn’t low, Ann Vaughn didn’t hold back.

Ann Vaughn took Kenny to wash their hands and returned to find the table already laden with food, all local specialties, very sumptuous.

"Please try it, this is one of our most popular dishes, I hope you like it." Ed used the communal chopsticks to serve Ann Vaughn a piece of the dish, his large beard trembling as he spoke.

"Our milk here is also quite good. If you like it, you can take some with you when you leave," Teresa Grant poured a glass of milk in front of Kenny, looking at him with an especially gentle gaze.

The Little Dumpling took a sip of milk, with a little milk mustache forming around his lips, looking very cute.

"Thank you." Ann Vaughn smiled lightly and picked up some food from her bowl just as her gaze changed suddenly.

Without letting it show, she glanced into Ed and Teresa Grant’s bowls, her brows furrowing slightly as she asked, "How long have you been eating this kind of food?"

The couple hadn’t expected such a question but answered truthfully, about six years.

"Is there something wrong with the food?" Remembering Ann Vaughn had mentioned she was a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, Teresa Grant looked a bit nervous.

"There’s an herb in this dish that’s warm in nature; consuming it occasionally can help improve a woman’s cold constitution, but long-term consumption can lead to excessive heart and liver fire... To put it plainly, when your heart fire can’t be subdued, you’re prone to arguing over little things like earlier," Ann Vaughn put down her chopsticks.

This particular herb is rare in the market, and to find it being used as a seasoning at this farm was unexpected.

Indeed, some suffer from drought while others drown.

Seeing Ann Vaughn’s action, the Little Dumpling also put down his spoon without question.

The couple exchanged glances, eyes full of undisguised surprise.

"This... really? We’ve consumed it for almost six years, and apart from arguing easily, we haven’t felt any physical discomfort..."

"Really?" Ann Vaughn looked at Teresa Grant, "You’ve been childless for many years, don’t you find that odd?"

Teresa Grant was taken aback, instinctively covering her abdomen with her hands, "Is the reason I’ve never been pregnant because of eating this herb?"

"Not just that," Ann Vaughn shook her head, "Also the cold milk. Drinking milk without warming it makes it a cold food; you live on a farm, drinking milk regularly, and consuming this herb, which clash as cold and hot. Though the damage to the body isn’t obvious, it shouldn’t be ignored."

Milk can decrease the effectiveness of the herb, and this herb and milk counteract each other. Consuming both for years will surely cause issues.

After Ann Vaughn’s explanation, Ed and Teresa Grant turned pale.

They had never noticed nor cared to notice the pros and cons of their diet, as long as it tasted good.

Who would have thought the root of their years-long arguments and infertility would be hidden in the least likely place?

If they hadn’t maintained such a strong relationship despite the arguments, they might have divorced long ago.

"Ann... Annie, is there still hope for us?" Teresa Grant bit her lip, tears welling in her eyes.

She longed for a child.

Especially each time guests came with their children, her heart was filled with envy.

Ed also looked at Ann Vaughn with hopeful eyes, "Even if there’s just a glimmer of hope, we won’t give up."

"It’s actually not difficult. I’ll prescribe some traditional Chinese medicine for you to adjust your bodies. Once you’re better, you can try for a child," Ann Vaughn picked up her chopsticks again, tasting a crispy yellowfish, fresh and savory, not inferior to dishes from renowned restaurants.

Ed and Teresa Grant were overwhelmed with excitement, eager to embrace and express their surging emotions but restrained themselves as Ann Vaughn and Kenny were there.

However, their attitude towards Ann Vaughn and Kenny was no longer casual like towards regular guests, but overly enthusiastic.
