Receiving Mrs. Preston’s acknowledgment, Serena Sullivan felt delighted and called Ethan Grant to invite him for dinner.
Ethan Grant received Serena Sullivan’s call, settled his work, and came running happily.
They were already a couple who understood each other well. Having untangled past misunderstandings, their relationship was much more harmonious than it was four years ago or during their time in Solaria.
Serena gave Ethan a chance, and Ethan treated her twice as well.
The days passed quietly, adding four parts sweetness and six parts happiness to the mundane.
Serena’s appetite improved a lot compared to before, and halfway through his meal, Ethan put down his chopsticks, looking at her with a smile.
His Serena was truly beautiful!
The phone rang, interrupting Ethan’s thoughts.
"Boss!"
It was Mindy Sterling’s call, "Go ahead."
Hearing Mindy’s words from the other side, the smile on Serena’s face immediately faded, disappearing from her eyes as well.
"I understand!"
Serena said, ending the call.
"What’s wrong?"
The opposite Ethan noticed something was off with Serena after receiving Mindy’s call.
"It’s nothing!"
Serena replied, lowering her head to continue eating her food, but without the previous appetite.
Mindy said Mrs. Preston had chosen Felicity Sterling’s design instead.
This was quite unexpected for Serena because Mrs. Preston clearly liked her work. Yet, in the blink of an eye, she changed her mind.
Serena didn’t think Mrs. Preston was joking with her; she saw the light in Mrs. Preston’s eyes—a light that comes from genuine appreciation.
Serena vaguely guessed what had happened in between.
"Mrs. Preston ordered Felicity’s jewelry for her wedding anniversary banquet."
Feeling uncomfortable under Ethan’s gaze, Serena raised her head to look over.
Ethan was surprised and asked, "Did you just go to the Preston Family?"
"Yes!"
The one-word response let Ethan understand the whole story.
Serena was so happy to meet him because she went to the Preston Family and her work was acknowledged by Mrs. Preston. Yet, shortly after, the Preston Family changed their mind.
Whoever interfered and did something, Ethan could guess as well.
"I’ll handle this matter."
Ethan said, the Preston Family intended to cooperate with The Grant Corporation.
Using cooperation to secure the jewelry worn at Mrs. Preston’s banquet, that’s doable.
"No need," Serena refused.
"It’s okay," Ethan said again, "The Grant won’t lose much, and the Preston Family is also strong."
"Ethan, this isn’t Solaria."
Serena pondered, "If you snatched it through cooperation, then what?"
It’s not about offending the Ford Family, but it is meaningless.
"Ethan, I want to open a studio."
Serena had a decision in her heart; since she didn’t get the jewelry design this time, she could use this opportunity.
"I’ll support you."
Ethan reached out to hold Serena’s hand, whatever Serena wanted to do, he would support her.
"Are you sure you don’t need me to handle the Preston Family’s matter?"
Ethan asked again, not willing to see Serena disappointed and upset.
"Not getting the jewelry design this time might be a good thing."
Serena smiled while pressing her lips.
"Alright!"
Ethan didn’t ask Serena why she was doing this, since whatever his Serena said was always right.
"Serena, you don’t need to fear the Ford Family."
Ethan said.
"I’m not afraid!"
It’s not the right time yet. After all, the Ford Family has been in the Imperial Capital for so many years, and they hold such a large proportion of The Sterling Corporation’s shares; to move against them might require The Grant Family in exchange.
