Chapter 345: Chapter 224: Can I Call You Maeve?_3

"I saw her outside reading for a long time before coming in today, but the classroom door was already open then," Claire Chandler said. "My dad had to go on a business trip early today, so he took me along, and I even got here before Reed. I saw her putting down her backpack with my own eyes."

Claire continued, "But when I got here, the classroom door was already open."

Ruby Reed didn’t expect anyone else would come this early. "But when I opened the door, it was closed."

"That means someone must have closed the door after I opened it. And at that time, I didn’t notice anything unusual, nor did I see Karen Landry’s books thrown on the ground."

"Are you two in this together? What you’re saying makes no sense."

"Are you trying to say there’s someone else?"

Claire Chandler threw an arm around Ruby Reed’s shoulder, looked at the crying Karen Landry at her desk, and arrogantly said, "Exactly, that’s what I mean."

The golden morning light shone through the trees, casting a slanting glow on Claire. Ruby Reed felt that the hand resting on her shoulder was surprisingly gentle yet filled with a reassuring strength.

Their lifelong friendship began to sprout at that moment.

After filming, Sarah Sutton came over to wipe Maeve Lane’s sweat and gave her a thumbs up. "Not bad, your acting’s getting better and better."

"It’s alright," Maeve Lane chuckled. Actually, this role was still quite challenging for her.

Even though Maeve had experienced similar injustices in high school, she would usually get her revenge right away. She was good at ignoring those people’s stares. However, portraying Ruby Reed’s contradictory character, lively with family yet keeping a barrier with outsiders, required constant interpretation.

After all, she firmly believed in one principle.

If the opponent is wild, she must be wilder than the opponent.

"Maeve Lane, Sarah Sutton, do you want some milk tea?" Mila Miller trotted over, still wearing a high school uniform, looking like she just walked out of a storybook.

"I’ll have some!" Sarah Sutton waved her hand. "Maeve, do you want any?"

"I think I’ll pass," Maeve Lane smiled slightly.

Mila exclaimed, "Ah, I wanted to take a picture of us drinking milk tea together to post on Weibo."

Sarah Sutton’s fondness for Mila increased a bit. Maeve’s current reputation isn’t great, yet Mila risked getting scolded to take a photo with her. So, Sarah offered, "Maeve, we haven’t posted anything on Weibo in a while."

"You guys drink, and I’ll stand beside you for a photo."

"Alright." Mila asked Hopper to place an order and stood next to Maeve Lane, smiling, "How about we take it now, while we still have our makeup on."

"Did you forget about the confidentiality agreement? We can’t disclose our looks," Sarah reminded Mila.

"Oh, right. I forgot." Mila tapped her head like a careless little girl, "Then we can edit it with a mosaic after we take it."

"That works. Maeve, let me take a picture for you guys," Sarah offered.

Hearing this, Mila handed her phone to Sarah Sutton, then grabbed Maeve’s arm and whispered, "Can I make a pose?"

Maeve’s tone was lukewarm, "Whatever."

She couldn’t explain why.

It seemed like everyone liked Mila, yet her internal radar kept going off.

Maeve felt she was developing paranoia.

Taking Maeve’s cue, Mila affectionately mimicked a face-kissing gesture, stood on tiptoe, appearing very close.

The flash fired a few times.

Sarah Sutton laughed, "Alright, come take a look."

Mila happily ran over, while Maeve stood still, glancing at Hopper and then back at Mila.

She didn’t have time to think deeper before Zane Payne blocked her line of sight.

He was half a head taller than Maeve, with a youthful, handsome face radiating joy.

"Maeve, can I take a photo with you?"

Sarah Sutton hadn’t returned Mila’s phone yet and smiled, raising an eyebrow slightly, "Sure, this makes our Maeve look popular."

To piss off Sylvia Lane.

The proclaimed Maeve’s sister, yet Sylvia hadn’t taken advantage of the situation to make a comeback. That certainly puzzled her.

But Sarah always viewed Sylvia Lane with suspicion, expecting her to play some kind of trick.

Unconsciously, Sarah had already pegged Sylvia Lane as Maeve’s archrival.

Zane Payne let out a low laugh, then quickly glanced at Maeve, subtly closing the distance between them.
