Chapter 272: Chapter 201: That’s... Vitamin_2

The hotel bed was very soft, and Maeve Lane "flopped" onto it, bouncing a couple of times.

She rubbed her thigh, still feeling a bit sore.

While resting with her eyes closed, Director Dayne called her.

She pressed the speakerphone button and placed the phone next to the bed.

"Maeve, now that Rivers and Mountains as Usual is entering its publicity period, you and Julian Fairchild should interact more during this time. It’ll help boost the show’s popularity."

"You don’t have to force it, just the usual interactions on Weibo, like likes or some group photos or something."

Maeve responded with an "Okay," and asked, "Has the airing time been roughly decided?"

"It’s expected to be in the second half of this year, at the latest by then. If there are no problems, it might air the month after next."

She raised her eyebrows, "That soon."

"Yes."

"I’ve already talked to Julian about it; he’s willing to cooperate. So just focus a little more during this time. Aren’t you both filming a variety show recently? It’s a great chance to communicate more."

"Okay."

Once the call ended, her phone battery was already running low. She plugged it in to charge and then turned it off.

When Maeve got out of bed, she accidentally bumped into the cabinet. The cabinet door made a noise and opened a crack, and out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a bottle of birth control pills inside.

"..."

These were put there by Sarah Sutton; Maeve had no idea when she had brought them over.

Just then, Sarah called again.

Maeve answered.

"Maeve, the director just called me, said that Rivers and Mountains as Usual needs publicity. Don’t forget, it’s your first lead role, very important, you need to intensify efforts from the publicity stage."

"He already called me earlier." Maeve said, turning the bottle of birth control pills in her hand, "But, why did you bring these... and place them in such an obvious spot? What if they’re captured in photos?"

"Captured in photos?" Sarah’s voice was startled.

"No." Maeve signaled her to relax, "I’m just saying it’s too conspicuous, it could easily be photographed. Besides, I don’t even need them..."

"Ahem, I was just worried about you two, making sparks fly, so I specially went to buy them from a nearby pharmacy. What if you couldn’t control yourselves and something happened? If an out-of-wedlock pregnancy gets exposed, it could cause a scandal..."

Maeve paused for a moment, "Then I must thank you..."

"No need to thank me, it’s what I should do!" Sarah quickly found an excuse, "I have some work at the company, talk later, and don’t forget about the promotion!"

She hung up the call, and the beeping sound filled the phone.

"I don’t even need these," Maeve said as she picked up the birth control pills, planning to stash them in a safer spot, one not easily captured by cameras.

"Zoe?"

Maeve’s hand froze as she was putting things away, the bottle slipped from her grasp and rolled to the edge of the man’s long leg.

The man’s eyebrows furrowed; he picked it up and glanced at it, quickly understanding what it was for.

"...You take this?"

Maeve walked over and pried the bottle from his hand, "No, Sarah prepared it for me..."

Julian snatched the pills back with a slightly stern voice, "Don’t take these anymore."

She smirked and said nonchalantly, "Why so serious? It’s not like I haven’t taken them before..."

In front of her, Julian tossed the bottle of birth control pills into the trash, "You really took them?"

Maeve was stumped by his question, "Of course."

"You always made me take them." When she said this, Maeve felt a pang in her heart.

She never cared about having kids back then.

Now, after committing to Julian, she couldn’t help but worry if those years of taking birth control had affected her fertility.

Anxiety filled her.

Julian placed a hand on her flat stomach, "How could I let you take something that harms your body?"

His words left Maeve with a puzzled expression.

"What do you mean?"

"What you used to take was vitamins."

Maeve felt like she was struck by lightning, "Vi...Vitamins?"

Julian nodded, then turned around.

When he returned, he held a bottle of the same pills she had taken at Crestfall Bay.

Julian opened the bottle cap in front of her and popped a pill into his mouth.

Maeve was petrified. The truth was laid bare before her eyes.

She had to believe it, whether she wanted to or not.

"So, all along, I’ve been taking this stuff?" Maeve fell silent for a moment.
