Mr. Fairchild's Rose: She is Wild and Proud-Chapter 172 - 167: Julian Is Just as Stubborn as His Big Brother!
If Maeve Lane doesn’t wait for him, then he’ll wait for her.
As long as she gives him a chance.
"You can like Julian Fairchild, why can’t you like me?" Henry Hughes spoke his heart, his eyes dim, "I’m not ugly, right... What exactly do you like about him?"
"I don’t like him anymore." Maeve Lane answered quickly, but as she said it, the scene of touching the tail ring earlier reappeared in her mind.
She frowned slightly, but Julian Fairchild’s face lingered incessantly in her mind.
"Really?"
Henry Hughes chuckled lightly, and a long silence spread between them.
"Then, can I stay with you?" He spoke again, no longer with the hopeful look from before, his back to Maeve Lane, making it impossible for her to see his expression, "I just asked the doctor, and it’s best to have someone with you during this time."
Maeve Lane said, "Meredith can stay with me, there’s no need..."
"Does she know about your illness too?"
No.
She wasn’t someone who was good at showing weakness, or rather, someone who would tell others her secrets.
Even with Sylvia Lane, her dearest sister, she had never shared it.
Henry Hughes knew from Maeve Lane’s silence that she hadn’t told anyone, and he felt a shameful sort of pleasure from this "uniqueness."
"If she finds out, today’s events will have to repeat all over again." Henry Hughes softened his tone, "Even if we can’t be lovers, I’m happy to be friends... So don’t reject me, okay?"
Maeve Lane didn’t immediately answer him but instead walked out to find the doctor herself.
Henry Hughes just stood silently outside the office waiting for her to come out.
What the doctor said was almost exactly like what Henry Hughes had mentioned.
"This time, although it’s because you didn’t take your medicine, you can’t let your guard down." The old doctor sat on a chair, various prescriptions laid out in front of him, "I don’t need to tell you how bad your previous condition was, you know it yourself."
"Now is the critical time for treatment. You’re requesting discharge which has already complicated the treatment process, and today’s relapse means you need to be especially careful. During this time, you must have someone close looking after you, don’t let previous efforts go to waste."
The door wasn’t completely closed, allowing every word to be heard clearly by Henry Hughes outside.
After the old doctor finished speaking, he pushed the door open and entered, "Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of Maeve Lane."
Maeve Lane just frowned slightly and didn’t say anything rejecting.
He knew, Maeve Lane acquiesced.
The old doctor also looked at Henry Hughes and said, "Alright, young man, you need to remind Miss Lane to take her medicine, don’t agitate her, especially like today, it’s really bad for her condition."
"Hmm."
The old doctor rattled off a series of precautions.
Henry Hughes noted them all down.
Upon leaving, he found Maeve Lane had already left at some point before him.
He breathed a sigh of relief, "I thought you went back to the university alone, you scared me."
Henry Hughes’s handsome face and tall stature quickly drew a lot of attention, people followed his line of sight to see the stunningly beautiful Maeve Lane.
She seemed a bit haggard but had bright eyes, full of spirit.
"Thank you." Maeve Lane spoke, seeing the concern in Henry Hughes’s eyes, she simply explained, "My family is a bit busy, during this time, I’ll be troubling you."
"No trouble at all."
Henry Hughes was still worried that Maeve Lane might backtrack, "With me by your side, you don’t need to worry about anything."
Maeve Lane furrowed her brows slightly, thinking it would be best to clarify, "If there’s anything I can help you with in the future, I will definitely help."
Her words, Henry Hughes naturally understood the meaning.
It meant keeping things mutually exclusive, drawing a clear boundary.
But right now wasn’t a good time, comparing being with Maeve Lane, Henry Hughes was more concerned about her health.
If she didn’t let him stay with her, Henry Hughes knew Maeve Lane wouldn’t talk about showing weakness to anyone.
Ultimately, he’d be the one most worried.
So, Henry Hughes agreed for now, "Alright."
When the two of them took the car back to school, Maeve Lane opened the window and looked outside, near the highway not far from Aurelia University, she saw a somewhat familiar back.
Sitting in the passenger seat, the window only rolled down a fifth, not enough to see a face clearly, but inexplicably giving her a sense of familiarity as if she had seen it somewhere before...
Inside the luxurious vehicle, Old Master Fairchild wore a face full of anger, everyone else in the car remained silent, too apprehensive to speak.
"Julian is just as stubborn as his brother!" he blurted out, then as if realizing something, a complex emotion flashed across his eyes, "Forget it, let Julian have a few years of fun for now, after a few years, he’ll naturally understand my good intentions."
