Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride-Chapter 1098 - 1094: Your Man Isn’t As Shrewd As He Looks
The celebration party was held at a suburban club, celebrating Beatrice Hargrave’s successful first concert.
Nicholas Croft reserved the entire club, and apart from the club’s service staff, all performing staff were given leave because he invited numerous stars and celebrities to the event, so there was no need for grassroots performers.
Titus Zane and Nathan Moore couldn’t attend; halfway there, Titus received a call and hurriedly left, and Nathan, not seeing Titus at the club, pursued him back.
In the performance hall of the club, there was a crystal glass tower at the front of the stage. Amidst the applause of the guests, Nicholas Croft and Beatrice Hargrave opened champagne together.
Nicholas Croft held Beatrice Hargrave’s hand on the stage, both holding champagne. Nicholas Croft said a few words of gratitude into the microphone, then heartily finished his champagne.
The celebration commenced, and one of Nicholas Croft’s artists came on stage to sing for everyone, while Nicholas Croft took Beatrice Hargrave around to meet the various guests and introduced his friends to her.
When they approached Felix Shaw and Evander Lancaster, Felix Shaw asked, "Bro, when are you and Beatrice planning to get married? So I can be ready and prepare a big red envelope."
Asked about marriage, Nicholas Croft and Beatrice Hargrave exchanged a knowing look full of love, and after exchanging glances, Nicholas Croft said, "We’ve decided not to have a wedding ceremony; we’ll just get the certificate after the concert."
This was something the two had discussed in the car earlier, with Beatrice Hargrave saying that holding a wedding banquet was too wasteful and that it would be better to donate that money to impoverished regions so the children there could have books to read and could, like her, achieve their dreams.
"What? Really?" As soon as Nicholas Croft finished, Felix Shaw exaggeratedly opened his mouth wide, and Mia Foster was equally surprised. A luxurious wedding is something many girls dream about, yet these two are just getting a certificate; someone as superficial as her found it hard to understand.
Evander Lancaster’s reaction wasn’t as exaggerated as Felix Shaw’s. A smart man considers far more than Felix Shaw, and as he looked at the happy couple, he teased mischievously.
"Bro, is it because you feel guilty toward Sophie that you won’t hold a wedding?"
Nicholas Croft...
Such a wonderful day, but having his own brother intentionally dampen the mood was really a lousy thing. He sighed reluctantly, clearly showing some displeasure on his face.
Ignoring Nicholas Croft’s displeased gaze, Evander Lancaster looked at Beatrice Hargrave and smiled, saying, "Beatrice, have you heard Uncle Nick mention Sophie? Let me tell you, back in the day, Uncle Nick was totally smitten with that little sweetheart."
"Evander, will you ever stop!" Nicholas Croft reminded in a deep voice, his brow furrowed, and his handsome face transformed from displeasure to outright warning and reproach.
Evander Lancaster didn’t care and continued looking at Beatrice Hargrave with a teasing smile, while Beatrice wasn’t upset either and said with a smile, "Yes, Uncle Nick mentioned her to me and said he left a place in his heart for her."
After Beatrice finished speaking, Evander Lancaster suddenly leaned in with his handsome face, lowering his voice to ask, "Doesn’t that give you a sense of accomplishment?" Then he raised his eyebrows, gesturing to Nicholas Croft, "And, haven’t you noticed your man isn’t as smart as he appears?"
Beatrice Hargrave bit her lip and smiled; only she and Evander Lancaster understood the meaning in her eyes.
Having achieved his goal, Evander Lancaster retracted his handsome face, took a sip of champagne, and leisurely said, "Alright, if you two continue to mingle with me, someone might stop being friendly with me. Go entertain the other guests, don’t mind us."
"Uncle Evander, how come I’m just realizing you’re the worst among all the uncles!"
Beatrice Hargrave scrunched her nose in accusation. Evander Lancaster raised his eyebrows and with a smile asked, "Aren’t I the one with the least generational gap? Don’t forget; you always chatted best with your uncle before!"
"Uncle Evander, being too clever might cost you friendships!" Beatrice said with a smile as she was pulled by Nicholas Croft to greet other guests, then she clenched a little fist and made a funny face at Evander Lancaster.
This was a gesture she often made when verbally sparring with Evander Lancaster in the past; only Nicholas Croft, walking ahead, didn’t notice.
His handsome face tightened because Evander Lancaster’s words made him very unhappy.
His own brother bringing up "ex-girlfriend" on such a special day was clearly undermining the celebration.
Beatrice Hargrave followed Nicholas Croft to greet other guests. Seeing his tense, handsome face, she helplessly sighed. Clearly a clever man, yet his brother had straightforwardly reminded him with no reaction.
Serves him right to continue living in guilt and remorse.
Watching Nicholas Croft holding Beatrice Hargrave greet other friends, Mia Foster finally retracted her gaze, looked at Evander Lancaster, and asked, "Evander, how did Sophie become Henry Hargrave’s daughter? Do you know what happened?"
Evander Lancaster shrugged and spread his hands, indicating he didn’t understand either.
Listening to Mia Foster ask, Felix Shaw disagreed and said, "Honey, don’t talk nonsense. Sophie is an orphan; how could she possibly connect with the Hargrave Family!"
Mia Foster...
She looked at Felix Shaw like an idiot and said disdainfully, "Felix Shaw, if it weren’t for me beside you keeping an eye out, I fear one day you’d be sold off by someone and even help them count the money!"
As soon as Mia Foster finished, Evander Lancaster began chiming in, shaking his head as he looked at the clueless Felix Shaw and said, "Sigh, Sister-In-Law, it’s tough on you, marrying such a stupid man; I feel sorry for you."
"Who wouldn’t?" Mia Foster took a sip, although she spoke disdainfully of Felix Shaw, her eyes couldn’t conceal her affection.
This man being stupid is fine; she was clever enough after all.
"Fourth, I finally understand why you don’t want to find a woman!" Felix Shaw, feeling unappreciated by both his brothers and wife, protested unhappily, glaring at Evander Lancaster, who raised an eyebrow and asked with a smile, "Do you know why?"
"Hmph!" Felix Shaw snorted coldly, "It’s because you’re so sharp-tongued, even heavens are punishing you!"
After speaking, he wrapped his arm around Mia Foster and turned around, "Honey, let’s not mind this man who sows discord; let him be by himself here."
Watching Felix Shaw’s leaving back, Evander Lancaster carelessly shook his head. The eldest brother might be excessively shrewd and cautious, but this third brother was truly foolish! From inside out, among the four brothers, it seemed only he and the second brother were normal.
Narcissistically adjusting his hair, Evander Lancaster wasn’t uncomfortable being ostracized by Felix Shaw; instead, he felt his foolish brother was lowering his own IQ.
While indulging in narcissism, a woman walked up to him; although he couldn’t recall her name, Evander Lancaster recognized her as a well-known actress.
The woman approached him and proactively greeted, "Hi, can we partner up temporarily?"
