Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride-Chapter 1054 - 1050: I Won’t Let Anyone Who Bullies My Woman Off Easy
Watching Nicholas Croft feign a relaxed demeanor, Beatrice Hargrave blinked and asked curiously, "Why did she hurt someone else?"
"Someone hit on her at the nightclub, so she just..." Nicholas smiled and explained, but Beatrice was not quite agreeable, furrowing her brow and shaking her head, "Impossible, normally if a man doesn’t offend, a girl wouldn’t usually do anything."
As Beatrice finished speaking, the smile at the corner of Nicholas’s lips also faded. Back then, he was so focused on finding Sophie Foster that he overlooked this issue.
His brow suddenly furrowed, "You mean... that man offended Lara, and she was acting in self-defense when she hurt him?"
"Probably," Beatrice said nonchalantly, pouting, worried about this man’s intelligence. How did he not consider such an obvious thing?
Withdrawing his gaze, Nicholas slowly sipped a mouthful of red wine, his slightly squinted eyes seeming to ponder something.
"Tomorrow I’ll go to the bar where Lara performs and check around."
With a snort, Beatrice said, "After all these years, would those people still be there?"
Nicholas turned abruptly, his eyes serious, "Two performers still work there; I can ask them."
"And what if you ask them? The person is already gone," Beatrice swung her legs and commented sarcastically, although her father had punished the man back then, if her own man couldn’t avenge such a grudge, she wouldn’t be able to get over it. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Nicholas withdrew his gaze, brought the wine glass to his lips, his narrowed eyes appearing somber, "I won’t let anyone who bullies my woman have it easy."
Beatrice propped her hands on the sofa, turned her head to look at Nicholas. Nicholas leisurely took a sip of red wine, lit a cigar, lazily leaned on the sofa, and amid the swirling smoke, his squinted eyes appeared dreamy.
Watching Nicholas’s lost expression, Beatrice didn’t speak further, resting her head on the couch back, looking at him. By the time Nicholas had smoked half a cigar, Beatrice already leaned against the sofa asleep, one hand gripping the couch back, mouth slightly open, making faint snores.
With a helpless sigh, Nicholas’s handsome face softened considerably. He extinguished the cigar, carefully picked up Beatrice, and walked toward the stairs.
Without any hesitation, he walked directly into his master bedroom, laid Beatrice on the bed, just lifted a thin blanket to cover her, Beatrice murmured in her sleep, turned over to find a comfortable sleeping posture.
Looking at the curled-up figure in the blankets, Nicholas’s lips unconsciously lifted, his slender fingers unbuttoning his shirt one button at a time, then the belt, slipping off the shirt and trousers, circling around to the other side of the big bed, also lifted the thin blanket and lay down.
He gathered the sleeping Beatrice into his arms, as he touched her outer clothing, his brow furrowed, lifting the blanket sitting up. His slender fingers landed on the button of Beatrice’s jeans...
A sliver of morning light seeped through the curtain gaps, casting on the oversized bed, immersing the sleeping figures’ faces.
Nicholas furrowed his brow, directly raising his arm over his eyes, while the girl within his embrace buried her little face into his chest.
They slept late yesterday, Nicholas drank more than half a bottle of red wine, the alcohol aiding his sleep, Beatrice leisurely waking up to find he was still sleeping.
Rubbing her sleepy eyes, in her drowsy vision something obstructed her sight. Just awakening, her brain still floating, Beatrice instinctively poked at it with her finger. When she realized it was a human wall, her eyes suddenly widened, not yet completely faded sleepiness vanished instantly, as Beatrice slowly gazed upward along that human wall.
