Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 62 - : Worthless Freeloader
Chapter 62 - 62: Worthless Freeloader
She turned to see him standing nearby, tears streaming down his face despite being a grown man.
"Russell, I know you're worried about me, but isn't this a bit much? Crying buckets over me?" She patted his shoulder, trying to calm him down.
"Ms. Chantelle, you don't understand! You looked as pale as a ghost when they brought you back! I thought something awful had happened, but Mr. Wilson and that Collins guy wouldn't even let me near you. They just stood guard while I was losing my mind worrying about you!" Russell grumbled, lying down beside her.
He had never felt so wronged and humiliated.
Despite being the best doctor in Easthan, he wasn't even allowed to treat Chantelle's injury.
"You're saying Daniel Wilson and Philip Collins were here?"
"They were, but they left about five minutes ago. Probably knew you were about to wake up. Hmph, I can't believe those two are still playing the mystery game!"
Russell grumbled nonstop about what had happened, making Chantelle's head spin.
It took a while before she finally managed to calm him down.
"Enough crying, Russell. Take a look at the ointment on my wound. Something's different about it—it seems to have reduced the nano ligament's side effects." She extended her injured arm, hoping to shift his focus.
It worked. Russell quickly composed himself and examined the wound. His expression changed as he realized she was right.
The ointment contained substances that suppressed the nano ligament's side effects.
Chantelle was stunned. Had Philip reached the peak of his medical skills?
Meanwhile, Russell was excited by the discovery. His excitement skyrocketed as he practically begged Chantelle to let him meet Philip.
"Ms. Chantelle, please help me! I need to talk to such a brilliant doctor!"
"For what?"
"Obviously, to see if we can work with them! With combined efforts, we could finally advance the nano ligaments and achieve a major medical breakthrough!"
"Russell, weren't you the one screaming bloody murder while clinging to my leg just a moment ago?"
"I was wrong, Ms. Chantelle! I had no idea Mr. Wilson brought such a skilled doctor with him! If I had known, I would've given him a proper welcome!"
"..."
Russell, realizing his mistake, swallowed his pride.
"It's easy to meet Philip, but you'll need Daniel's approval before discussing any collaboration. I'll have to figure out how to handle him first."
"Ms. Chantelle, my future depends on you!" Russell's eyes lit up with gratitude as he looked at her.
Chantelle noticed her wrist no longer ached, and she was feeling much better. Realizing it was already nighttime, she grabbed her coat and headed for the door.
"Ms. Chantelle, where are you going?"
"Let me go with you!" Calvin quickly offered.
Calvin had felt guilty ever since Chantelle's wound worsened that afternoon. He vowed to stay by her side and not let her go anywhere alone until she fully recovered.
That was why he caught her the moment she tried to leave.
Chantelle had planned to drive herself but changed her mind when she saw how late it was.
She didn't want to waste time arguing. Her injury had already caused two fevers, so it was best to be cautious.

As she got into the car, she suddenly remembered Calvin had been injured, too.
"I remember your hand was hurt. Let's get another driver instead."
"It's just a small injury, Ms. Chantelle. It's almost healed!" Calvin said casually as he climbed into the driver's seat.
Chantelle was about to argue, but then she noticed the band-aid on his hand. His wound seemed nearly healed. She couldn't help but be impressed by how fast he recovered.
"Where are we going, Ms. Chantelle?" Calvin asked as he started the car and opened the navigation app.
"Old Berkeley Street, GG Boutique."

Back at the garden villa, Kate lay unconscious on the cold tile floor, still wrapped in her bath towel. The chill eventually shocked her awake.
She glanced at the time and realized she had been unconscious for about three hours—naked, unnoticed, and forgotten.
James probably wouldn't have minded if she froze to death—one less burden for him.
Meanwhile, Ruby had already left earlier that morning.
Kate stood up shakily and made her way back to her room, her body trembling from the cold.
She found it absurd that she was treated so poorly despite being the eldest daughter of the prestigious Bently family.
If not for her strong will to survive, she could have frozen to death outside the bathroom.
The thought made her furious.
After changing into warm clothes, she curled up under a blanket.
The heat gradually eased her frustration, helping her feel like herself again.
Just then, Ruby returned home.
The moment she stepped inside, James rushed out of his room to take her bag and coat.
Within seconds, the two were tangled in a heated make-out session right in the living room.
The disgusting sounds made Kate's blood boil. She couldn't take it anymore.
Storming out of her room, she grabbed a large bucket, filled it with water from the bathroom, and threw it over them as they sprawled across the couch.
"Kate Bently, are you out of your mind?!"
Before she could react, a hard slap knocked her off balance. A sharp kick sent her crashing to the floor.
"You worthless freeloader! How dare you drench me with water? Damn you, filthy woman!"
The blows kept coming, each one harder than the last.
"She's just a child, James. Get changed and go dry off in your room. I'll see you later," Ruby said, quickly fixing her clothes and stepping in to stop him.
"You better watch yourself, you brat, or I'll throw you out!" James muttered, pulling up his pants and heading back to his room.
Before leaving, he delivered one last brutal kick to Kate.
Kate curled up on the floor, clutching her stomach as pain shot through her body.
Tears streamed down her face as Ruby helped her sit up.
"Mom, how can you be with someone like him? Where were you while he was beating me? Do you even care about me? I passed out this afternoon and nearly froze to death!" Kate's bottled-up anger finally exploded.
"Where did you go? Why did you leave me alone with that monster?"
"Alright, alright. I'm back now, aren't I? Stop crying and wipe your tears."
Ruby grabbed some tissues from the coffee table and handed them to Kate without showing any concern.
Her lack of reaction made Kate sob even harder.
How could a mother stay silent after seeing her daughter abused and nearly killed?
