Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 471: We’ll Find You A Shaman
Chantelle and Daniel exchanged a look. This matter didn’t seem as simple as they first thought.
Ruby was acting like a dog following a scent. She wasn’t here to accuse her. She wanted answers.
"Sweetheart, look at me. You can’t leave me alone. I’m your father." Roman tried to move closer to Chantelle to show his injuries again, but Daniel kicked him away once more.
"Enough. We’ll find you a shaman." Chantelle headed out with Roman following behind her. She felt safe walking beside Daniel.
But the moment she walked outside, a flower pot dropped from above. If Daniel hadn’t pulled her back, it would have hit her on the head.
Daniel had her in his arms. She was stunned for a moment before quickly dragging him back into the living room.
"Are you okay?" She pulled off his coat and shirt and let out a breath of relief when she saw only a small bruise where the pot had hit him.
Daniel noticed how worried she was, especially after stripping him so quickly. He barely felt the pain and was smirking at her.
Her anxiety faded when she saw how relaxed he looked. She tapped his nose and threw his clothes back at him. "Idiot."
Roman echoed her, "Idiot."
Daniel didn’t respond. He simply got dressed and helped Roman to a guest room. He wanted to check his injuries more carefully and ask him what was going on.
Ashton went to the third floor to investigate and returned with a report. "The surveillance shows no one went up to the roof. There was no tampering. It looks like an accident."
"Leave this to me, Ms. Bently. I’ll handle it," Calvin said as he rushed into the house.
Chantelle had planned to call him over since there were only a few people she trusted. But the look on his face made her hesitate.
She suddenly felt this might be connected to the person who saved her six years ago.
"Mommy! Mommy! We’re back!" Kane’s cheerful voice came from the doorway.
Chantelle’s heart skipped a beat when she saw her children running towards her.
She gave Calvin a confused look. She had just told him to get the kids dressed and sent to school, yet he brought them home instead.
"Steph? You’re injured?" Chantelle felt a chill run through her when she saw the bloodstains on her daughter’s white school uniform.
She checked Stephanie carefully and found no wounds.
"Please don’t worry, Ms. Bently. No one was hurt. Ms. Steph just spilled red ink on herself." Calvin gently guided the startled Stephanie toward Rai.
Chantelle slowly felt relieved after hearing Calvin’s words. She didn’t know why she felt so restless. Every emotion felt magnified a hundred times.
"What’s wrong, Mommy?" Rai looked worried as she reached out to her.
She lifted Rai into her arms and said to her children, "I’m fine. Let’s get you to your rooms."
"Did he make you angry, Mommy?" Kane glared at Roman, who had just walked out of the guest room with Daniel.
Kane still hated him for trying to kidnap him before.
He would not hesitate to teach Roman a lesson if he dared to upset his mother.
Roman, meanwhile, forced a friendly smile at his hostile grandson, only to receive a warning look from his other grandson.
They stood together as one.
"You should leave. Stay away if it’s nothing important," Daniel said to the stunned Roman.
Roman shook his head. "No! I need to stay here with you. It’s safer if we stick together."
"Are you sure? All your injuries are minor, while Chantelle almost lost her life." Daniel gave him a cold smile, as if telling him his choice made no sense.
Roman hesitated. Thinking back on everything that happened to him, none of the incidents had been really life-threatening. But what happened to Chantelle was clearly an attempt on her life.
Ashton escorted Roman out of the premises under Daniel’s orders.
Roman might have changed, but he still didn’t care about Chantelle. It was better to send him away. They didn’t need someone who only thought of himself.
By the time Chantelle finished tending the children, Calvin was already gone. Daniel was secretly whispering something to Ashton before Ashton also left.
Daniel then turned around, acting as if nothing had happened, and asked, "What do you want for dinner?"
"You said a lucky charm can bring bad luck. Why?" Chantelle asked. She took off the necklace and handed it to him.
Daniel played with the necklace for a moment before putting it back on her. "It’s yours. You should keep wearing it."
"Are you trying to mess with me again, Mr. Wilson?" She immediately sensed he was planning to hide the truth to keep her out of it.
Daniel let out a helpless sigh. "I’m not. I just don’t know what this thing is."
"Then why did you try so hard to get it?" She looked at him in disbelief.
He took out a folded piece of paper from his wallet and handed it to her. "Grandpa left this behind. He said we should stay away from this thing. Touching it will bring disaster."
She compared the lucky charm in her hand with the one drawn on the paper. It was exactly the same. The worn and faded parchment told her it was very old.
"The Wilson Group of Companies almost went bankrupt because of that charm. As for the exact reason, Grandpa never told me. I tried to investigate it, but I couldn’t find anything," he said with regret.
He wasn’t as worried as Chantelle. He didn’t believe in anything supernatural, and he trusted his own ability to protect her.
Chantelle, however, felt differently. After wearing the lucky charm for several days, she felt strangely empty the moment she took it off.
She believed it was something evil, something that could pull at her emotions.
"Don’t worry. I’m here. You’ll be fine," he said, trying to comfort her as he saw how pale she looked.
Chantelle didn’t know what else to do, so she put the necklace back on to stabilize her emotions.
"Stay home and don’t go anywhere. I’ve increased the security outside. Call me if anything happens," Daniel said before leaving the villa. He had just gotten word from Ashton that Camille had gone missing. The police were investigating the engagement party and needed him there.
After Daniel left, Chantelle called Joseph.
The call went through, but he sounded frantic. He said only one thing and hung up before she could say a single word.
"Wear that lucky charm. Make sure you have it on every day."
She touched the charm hanging around her neck, then went back to her room to change into her stealth cloak. She grabbed a few pinhole cameras and headed to Roman’s place.
