Chapter 468: Chapter 468: Why Was He Is Such A Hurry?

Daniel had only meant to tease her and ease the tension between them, but he simply could not resist her. Watching her lie there, almost half naked, was its own kind of sweet torture.

"Don’t move. I’ll leave once I’ve applied the medicine. If you keep moving, I might start thinking you actually want..." Daniel’s voice was low and husky, thick with desire.

"No, I don’t want anything from you! Just put on the medicine! And don’t say another word!" Chantelle retorted. She quickly stopped resisting, buried her face in the pillow, and chose to stay silent. She knew Daniel would never let another male doctor treat her wound. He would insist on doing it himself.

Daniel was surprisingly silent. He didn’t say a word as he dipped his finger into the ointment and gently rubbed it onto her wound in slow circles.

Every time his fingers touched her skin, a sharp shiver ran down her spine. When he brushed over her funny bone, the ticklish sensation almost made her burst out laughing.

"Are you done?" Chantelle tried to sound annoyed, but her voice came out softer and more sultry than she meant it to. The sound of it sent heat rushing through Daniel’s body.

What man wouldn’t react when a woman sounded like that, especially with his fingers tracing circles on her bare skin?

"Hurry up. Stop rubbing for no reason," she urged him, but it only made things worse. Her voice dragged Daniel straight back to the memories of the beautiful, intimate moments they have six years ago.

He remembered everything as clearly as if it were yesterday. His pulse sped up. His skin felt too hot.

"I’m done," he muttered. He pulled the blanket over her and rushed straight into the bathroom.

Chantelle watched him close the door. A few seconds later, she heard the water blasting.

Was he really showering without bringing clean clothes inside? Why was he in such a hurry?

Then it hit her. Her ears turned red, and she quickly rolled away from the bathroom door.

Before she knew it, she drifted off to sleep. In her half-dreaming state, she felt someone slip into bed behind her and pull her gently into an embrace. A warm patch was placed on her stomach.

For a moment, she wondered if this was what heaven felt like. She chased the warmth in her dreams and slept better than she had in a long time.

Back at the hospital, Rowan was getting his grandfather a glass of water. "Grandpa, why didn’t you show the results of the paternity test to Chantelle?" he asked. "Wouldn’t it be more troublesome to take her in as an adopted granddaughter?"

To Rowan, having a real granddaughter seemed more meaningful than an adopted one.

"Have you boys forgotten about Camille?" Old Mr. Nelsen asked. His sharp eyes caught the look of disdain on their faces the moment he mentioned her. He felt disappointed with them.

There was a time when the three of them adored Camille and treated her like a princess. Now that their real sister had returned, did Camille mean nothing to them anymore? That felt too heartless for him to accept.

But Old Mr. Nelsen did not know that the siblings had already seen Camille’s true nature. If she really were their biological sister, they would have tied her up and taught her a lesson long ago. Now that they suspected she was not related to them, they simply stopped caring.

On top of that, her behavior had gotten worse. What she did at the engagement party today made everything clear. The other guests might not have noticed, but the Nelsen brothers could tell she was trying to get revenge on Daniel Wilson.

Blood relations were strange. When the Nelsen brothers first found Camille, they tried hard to bond with her because she was said to be their sister. But no matter how much effort they exerted, they could never really connect with her.

In the end, Oscar and Alex did the bare minimum. They bought her jewelry and things girls liked, but they never acted like real brothers in her life. Rowan was slightly better. He helped her whenever she was in trouble, but that was as far as it went.

At first, they blamed it on gender and different interests, since they were all boys and Camille was a girl. But after meeting Chantelle, they realized something else.

Some connections only existed because of blood. It had nothing to do with gender or hobbies. Chantelle was better than Camille in every way. Even if she wasn’t their real sister, they would have naturally gravitated toward her.

Camille was nothing more than a fake rich princess who had been eyeing their real sister’s husband. How could they not despise her?

The Nelsen brothers were fiercely protective of Chantelle. As her siblings, they had every right to dislike Daniel if they wanted to. But if someone else tried to steal Daniel from Chantelle, that was a completely different matter.

"How could we forget, Grandpa? Don’t worry. We’ll find out how she ended up in our family and who created that lie," Rowan said coldly. If it had not been for Camille, they might have found Chantelle much earlier, and she would not have suffered for so many years.

Old Mr. Nelsen did not agree with Rowan’s anger. He still felt grateful for the care Camille had shown him over the years, and he wanted his grandsons to treat her kindly instead of blaming her. But from what Rowan said, it seemed like there was more to the story.

Was someone targeting their family? And when the paternity test had shown Chantelle was his real granddaughter instead of Camille, how did that test even come to be?

"Is there a possibility that they’re twins?" Old Mr. Nelsen asked, still holding on to a bit of hope.

Rowan took out two sheets of paper from a folder. One was the DNA test result between him and Camille, and the other was between Camille and Chantelle. Both clearly showed that Camille and Chantelle were completely unrelated.

Old Mr. Nelsen’s expression darkened again. Worried he might upset him, Rowan quickly tried to reassure his grandfather. "Don’t worry, Grandpa. If we find out she didn’t do anything wrong, we’ll let her continue being Ms. Nelsen like she always has," he said.

It wasn’t a financial issue for the Nelsen family, and Camille was already used to living in their household. Now that she was about to marry Joseph Wilson, the brothers didn’t mind letting her keep the title, as long as she behaved.

"But Chantelle is the real Ms. Nelsen!" Oscar suddenly interrupted their conversation. "She’s been on her own all these years and gone through so much. I don’t agree with only recognizing her as an adopted sister just because of Camille."
