What kind of sorcery was this? A woman who had been dead for years was suddenly alive!
This was beyond belief!
"What now, Daniel? Are you still planning to get revenge on her?" Philip suddenly asked, and his excitement turned serious.
"If she really killed Grandpa, she has to pay."
"But you don't hate her. When she died like that back then, you nearly lost yourself. Now that the woman you desperately missed is back, why do you still—"
Philip let out an unintentional sigh. Seeing the darkness in Daniel's eyes, he knew there was nothing more he could say.
Others might not know, but Philip understood it clearly.
Daniel cared about Chantelle.
Even if she was the one who killed his grandfather, he had fallen into deep despair after her death.
Back then, he couldn't sleep for nights. Philip had to drag him out drinking every day, and Daniel drowned himself in alcohol. His drinking got so bad that it damaged his liver, and no amount of medical skill could fix the harm he had done to himself.
Later, when Rai started acting out, Daniel forced himself to pull it together. He poured everything into raising Rai, making him his only focus.
Philip had once wished he could climb mountains and beg the gods to bring Chantelle back after seeing Daniel in such a miserable state.
He never expected the gods to actually answer his prayer. Chantelle had returned.
But now, Daniel was heading straight into another dead end.
"I may be an outsider and have never been married, but I need to say this," Philip spoke firmly. "Not everyone gets a second chance. If you still miss Chantelle, don't let this turn into something destructive. Okay?"
Despite all the conflicting thoughts in his mind, Philip couldn't help but offer his advice.
"You always give her the benefit of the doubt, Philip. Anyway, how long until she wakes up?"
"Since sunrise is about an hour away, I'd say she'll be up by tonight. Can I go upstairs and sleep for a bit? Just for a while... for the sake of our years of friendship."
"Do as you want."
Daniel noticed the dark circles under Philip's eyes and decided not to stop him.
Now, he was the only one left in the lab with Chantelle, who remained asleep.
After a moment of hesitation, he walked over and sat beside her bed.
Staring at the face that looked so different from five years ago, countless questions filled his mind.
Why did she change her face?
Did she do it so he wouldn't recognize her?
Daniel sat there in silence, gripping her hand tightly as she slept.

Meanwhile, the Bently family was in chaos. Their financial troubles had only worsened over the past few days.
To keep Roman from dragging her back by force, Kate pretended to be sick and hid in the hospital.
Kate had planned to beg for her father's forgiveness the moment she walked in, but before she could say a word, Roman struck her hard across the face.
She didn't even get the chance to put on an act.
"You ruined the Bently family and still want to run from the consequences! How did I end up having a spoiled daughter like you?"
The slap sent Kate crashing to the floor. Her face swelled instantly, and her head buzzed as stars danced in her vision.
She cried out in shock, "Dad, what are you doing? I'm your daughter! How could you hit me like that?"
"So you still remember you're my daughter? You're no better than a disgrace! Chantelle may be gone, but she left behind a child to carry on the Wilson family name. We are his maternal family, and what did you do? You wasted the Shallow Bay development funds on a dress? Are you out of your mind, Kate?"
Roman was blinded by rage. He didn't care about her cries as he punched and kicked her while she lay on the ground.
Kate had never been treated like this before. The pain cut deeper than the blows.
Her hair was a tangled mess as she lay there, bruised and aching. She had always been the cherished princess of the Bently family. Roman had never laid a hand on her.
How had it come to this?
She was the most respected woman in Easthan. What gave Roman the right to lay a hand on her?
Had she become nothing more than a worthless disgrace in his eyes?
"Are you going to kill me, Dad? What do you gain from doing it? Will killing me bring the money back?"
"I can't get the money back, but you need to learn your lesson! I spoiled you since you were a child, and now you don't know when to stop!"
Kate was in a desperate state.
Roman had no intention of stopping. His eyes burned with fury as he strode toward her.
He grabbed her hair and yanked her up like she was nothing more than a rag doll. Then, he threw her down, and her body hit the floor with a heavy thud.
Kate felt lightheaded, and a sharp, metallic taste filled her mouth. She spat out blood as she lay on the ground.
Her heart pounded in fear as Roman moved toward her again. She curled up instinctively, shrinking away as if she had seen a ghost.
Hearing the noise, Ruby rushed downstairs.
The sight of Kate's battered state made her legs go weak. She nearly collapsed on the stairs.
She had endured Roman's wrath all year, and fear gripped her. But when she saw her daughter on the brink of being beaten to death, she forced herself to step in.
"Roman! Stop! What are you doing? How can Kate marry into the Wilson family if you break her?"
"Hmph! She still wants to marry into the Wilson family? Do you think they're saints?"
"Didn't we plan this last time? Roman, you need to give Kate another chance. Daniel is still single, and as parents, we want the best for our children. It's not like—"
"Hahaha! Parents want the best for their children? You just want me to ignore the truth, don't you? Look at this! She's worthless. Do you think Daniel is blind?"
