Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 299: Lunch Is Here
Chapter 299: Chapter 299: Lunch Is Here
Chantelle’s face turned red as she quickly walked away from the sofa. "I was just trying something..."
Daniel turned around slowly, looking down. "What kind of man would think that was a joke?"
He stood by the tall window, looking lost.
She felt bad for putting him in that situation. Maybe she had gone too far. Instead of tempting him physically, she had tried to provoke his emotions.
Daniel couldn’t stop thinking about the moment she leaned in to kiss him. Just remembering it made his heart beat faster. He had nearly given himself away because of that.
"Should I cook you something?" she asked.
Chantelle tried to shift the conversation, hoping it would help make things less awkward.
Daniel took a moment to calm himself before he turned around and said, "Philip ordered takeout. It should be here soon."
He actually did want to eat her cooking, but Philip was super picky about his kitchen. He even warned Daniel that if they messed it up, he’d tell Chantelle everything.
Chantelle knew her cooking wasn’t great, so she didn’t push it.
"Uh, did you get your suit ready for the charity gala?" she asked.
"I thought my wife would’ve picked something out for me. You promised."
Daniel knew how to play his role well. Even if Chantelle figured out he was just acting, the way he looked at her full of hope was hard to ignore.
Honestly, if he asked her for a star, she might try to grab one for him.
"I left it in the car. I’ll go get it," she said coldly.
Daniel noticed the shift in her mood right away. He knew her too well. If he pushed any harder, it would only turn against him.
He shook his head. "Have the servant go. You’ve had a long morning. Take a break."
"No need. I’m fine." She rushed out the door before he could stop her.
She got into her car in the garage and called Calvin.
It felt good to have a moment of peace. Daniel had been acting strange lately.
"What’s going on with the Morgan family?" she asked.
"Brian’s wife scratched up Ruby’s face before she got kicked out of the house. James took her with him."
"James Lowe? He forgave her?"
"James hadn’t been treating Ruby well, but he did take her to the hospital since she was hurt. I think they have some deal."
The only reason they’d team up was if there was something beneficial for both of them.
Were they plotting to get their hands on the Morgan family’s money?
Bryan wasn’t the only son in the Morgan family. Even if Ruby married him, she wouldn’t be able to touch their wealth.
"Who has James been meeting with lately?"
"I’ve got people watching him. Nothing strange so far, except he’s been buying lottery tickets. After what happened last night, I had someone check out the owner of the lottery station. Turns out, he works for Joseph Wilson."
"What’s Joseph up to?"
Joseph had only ever kept his eyes on one person and it was Daniel.
Was he planning to use Ruby to sneak into the Morgan family? freёnovelkiss-com
"Joseph’s been helping Ruby, Ms. Chantelle. I don’t think it’s as simple as it looks."
Chantelle felt the same. She and Daniel had both tried to get rid of Ruby, but Joseph had intervened and saved her.
Even if Ruby was just another piece in Joseph’s game, she should’ve been useless by now after everything she’d done. So why was he still backing her?
"Keep an eye on Ruby and James. I want to know what they’re doing. What about Trenton?"
"Nothing yet, but we found out Mr. Wilson’s been digging into him too. Trenton knows. He might strike back soon."
She fell into a deep thought. She had spent years chasing Trenton, and he seemed to enjoy the chase.
But Daniel was different. Trenton didn’t know him, and with his personality, having a stranger dig into his life might push him to go all the way just to destroy Daniel.
During Ruby’s questioning, Daniel hadn’t seemed too concerned about Trenton. She thought he didn’t care, but now it was clear he’d been investigating Trenton behind her back.
"Have Thirteen come back," she ordered.
She ended the call and stayed in the car, trying to piece everything together. But no matter how hard she thought, nothing useful came from the information she had.
Still, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something bad was about to happen.
Trenton was getting closer.
Her phone rang out of nowhere. She was startled when she saw Daniel’s name on the screen. She didn’t know what to feel.
If it weren’t for her, Daniel wouldn’t be caught up with Trenton.
"Did my wife forget about me? You’ve been gone for twenty minutes," he said.
"Can you say something that actually makes sense, Mr. Wilson?"
"Lunch is here. Come, my wife. Let’s eat."
She had no choice but to grab his suit and head upstairs.
"Is my lovely wife avoiding me?" Daniel asked, leaning against the doorway with a teasing smile. "You don’t want to see me because I’m impotent?"
Chantelle wasn’t in the mood to deal with him. She just gave his chest a quick pat and said, "Don’t worry about it, Mr. Wilson. You’re still powerful, even if you’re impotent."
"Well, if my wife says so, then that’s how it is." He smiled and gently pushed her into a chair. His smile could light up the whole room.
She quickly blushed as she reached for a spoon and started on her soup.
"You haven’t been back to the office lately."
"My wife is way more interesting than work."
"Aren’t you worried something might go wrong with the company?"
She couldn’t shake the worry that the Wilson Group of Companies might fall with Trenton still lurking around. Daniel’s laziness only made her feel more restless.
The amusement in his eyes faded slightly. He noticed something had changed in Chantelle since she got back. Still, he answered her casually. "I’ve handed everything over to Jude. There’s nothing to worry about."
"You’re still the chairman of Wilson Group of Companies. You can’t keep skipping work," she reminded him seriously.
Go check on the company. Don’t come running to me if it all falls apart.
Then again, would Mr. Wilson really cry? Probably not. Not the Demon King Daniel.
But lately, he’s been calling me his wife and acting all sweet.
"Are you tired of me, my wife? You didn’t think much of me when I was fine," he said, looking hurt.
There was no avoiding the topic now.
"Is your head full of crap?" she snorted. "Who cares if down there won’t get an erection? You’re not dead! Most men often do is to think with your third legs!"
She slammed her cutlery down, furious.
