Chapter 114 - 114: I Fell In Love With You

Daniel's audacity was beyond belief, spewing such nonsense in broad daylight.

"I can't let you take the child, but you're welcome to stay," Daniel continued. "Since you're not the murderer, I owe you your life. Don't you want to take it back?"

He walked up to her. "And do you really think Kate was smart enough to steal the Wilson family's secrets and kill my grandfather? Don't you want to find out who's really responsible?"

Daniel halted his steps in front of her, and before Chantelle realized it, she was trapped.

His strong hand wrapped around her waist, pulling her in. The cool, woody scent surrounding him clouded her thoughts.

Then, a playful smile appeared on her lips.

"Daniel, you seem so eager to make me stay. Don't tell me you've fallen for me. I had no idea Mr. Wilson had a habit of rekindling old flames," she teased him as she tried to act calm.

"Love you? Am I being that obvious?"

"You couldn't be more obvious," she scoffed.

"That's great. I thought you hadn't noticed," Daniel said, suddenly looking relieved. His stare softened, filled with an overwhelming warmth that could drown anyone.

Chantelle, who had been enjoying herself moments ago, was now stunned.

This jerk! His skin is thicker than the earth's crust!

She was too exhausted to keep arguing. She just wanted to push him away, but it was useless.

Trapped between him and the wall, she couldn't escape. Even with his injuries, Daniel was as strong and unshakable as a fortress.

It was unbelievable.

"Chantelle, are you happy to know I'm in love with you?" Daniel asked her as he slowly leaned closer.

Chantelle, wanting to leave, suddenly froze as she saw his face getting closer.

"I apologize, Mr. Wilson," she quickly said, blocking her hand between their faces. "I was young and naive when I pursued you. Now that I'm older, I no longer like men like you. So please, don't waste your time on me."

Daniel chuckled. "Young and naive? Heh! Chantelle, do you really think I'd believe that?"

"Believe what you want. It doesn't matter. Either way, I'm taking the child with me."

"You can try," Daniel said lovingly. "But I will never stop loving you. We're still married, after all. And the love between a husband and wife... can always grow over time."

"Since when have I been your wife and you my husband?" Chantelle shot back without thinking. But as soon as the words left her mouth, she realized the problem.

Their divorce was never finalized back then—when they unexpectedly had children.

But so much time had passed. Why hadn't Daniel taken care of it? Didn't he want to marry Kate?

Did that mean Kate always knew she was the other woman?

"You're finally getting the idea," Daniel said. "There's no need to doubt it. I never annulled our marriage. You're still Mrs. Wilson."

"You—!"

"Whatever! Is Mr. Wilson free today? Let's get a divorce," Chantelle said.

"Divorce? Heh! Keep dreaming!" Daniel grinned at her.

"Daniel Wilson! What the hell do you want?!" she snapped.

"I already told you. I fell in love with you."

"If I believe that, I might as well be damned!"

"Believe it or not, that's up to you. But the omelet is getting cold. Eat first—only then you can think properly on how to escape from my grip."

With that, Daniel let go of Chantelle. He turned and walked to the dining table, gesturing for her to join him.

She wanted to refuse, but at that moment, her stomach growled, betraying her.

Only then did she realize she hadn't eaten much the day before. Her hands were even trembling from hunger.

Forget it. I'll eat first and think later.

Chantelle walked over and sat in the chair Daniel pulled out for her. She picked up her utensils and began eating.

Daniel was surprisingly good at making omelets.

"It's delicious, isn't it?" he asked.

"It's taste good enough," Chantelle replied, trying to sound cold.

"Do you really trust me that much?" Daniel teased her again. "Are you sure I didn't spike your omelet?"

Cough... Cough... Cough... Smash!

Chantelle had been enjoying her meal, but at his words, she choked and started coughing uncontrollably.

As she turned to grab a tissue, her sleeve brushed against the plate. It slipped off the table and shattered on the floor.

Daniel hadn't expected such a strong reaction. He was about to hand her a tissue when he heard the crash.

"Don't touch it. I'll take care of it," he said firmly.

Seeing Chantelle about to squat down, he grabbed her hand and pulled her aside. Then, he began picking up the broken pieces.

Chantelle sat silent, watching him carefully as her emotions in turmoil.

The Daniel Wilson, who had always carried himself with arrogance and superiority, had not only learned to cook but now was cleaning up the room.

Chantelle felt like she was in a dream.

Daniel knew who she was now, the Chantelle Bently that once he hated most. So why was he still being kind to her?

Was this his new way of taking revenge?

Just then, a voice rang out.

"Daniel, where did this fragment come from? Why does it look like my porcelain plate...? Wait... It is my porcelain plate!"

Philip had come downstairs, hoping to persuade Daniel to give him some omelets after ruining his own meal. But the moment he walked out of the elevator, a piece of broken porcelain rolled to his feet.

He bent down, picked it up, and instantly recognized the pattern.

His heart shattered on the spot.

Philip nearly fell over, while Chantelle stared at him in confusion.

Did Daniel really use Philip's antique plate for his omelet?

She couldn't believe it. Did he do it on purpose? What a jerk!

She couldn't believe that such a valuable plate could be broken into tiny pieces instantly. She accidentally knocked it off after Daniel calmly said he "spiked the food," to scare her.

"I'm really sorry. I wasn't careful..."

Chantelle's face turned red as she apologized. Daniel was the real culprit, but she was the one who broke the plate.

She wanted to explain, but before she could, Philip suddenly burst into tears.

"Chantie?"

"Boohoohoo..."
