Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Stunning Appearance

Surprisingly, Quentin Grant didn’t contact her for the next few days. Instead, he sent someone to deliver a thick book of sheet music and arranged for a piano teacher to instruct her. He insisted she learn to play presentably, all for one simple reason: he liked it.

Nora Ainsworth spent all her time outside of class in the piano room. She thought he would surely contact her after a few days, but more than ten days passed without a single call from him.

Leon Lynch, on the other hand, used the excuse of ’nurturing their relationship’ to see her every single day.

This time, right after she finished her piano practice, she turned to see Leon Lynch standing by the window. Their eyes met, and he actually smiled at her. The smile was almost too brilliant. Nora Ainsworth immediately turned and headed for the door.

"You’ve been coming here to see me these past few days. Do all your other girls know about it?" 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Leon Lynch held out his hands. "Obviously not. Otherwise, this place would have been mobbed by now. Your mom couldn’t reach you, so she asked me to take you to your brother-in-law’s birthday party. Let’s go, the car’s waiting downstairs."

Nora Ainsworth’s hands, tucked into her pockets, froze. ’His birthday... He didn’t even tell me himself. I still have to see him like this.’

"Do I have to go?"

Leon Lynch slung an arm around her shoulder. "Don’t be silly. You know you’ll get to see the person you want to see tonight. How could you possibly not go?"

Nora Ainsworth’s heart skipped a beat. She looked up at him. "What do you mean?"

Leon Lynch just smiled without answering and started walking ahead. The smile, however, didn’t reach his eyes.

When they arrived at the Ainsworth Residence, Leon Lynch retrieved a stunning gown from the back seat and handed it to her. "My fiancée needs to wear the best to make her fiancé look good, too. Put this on, and don’t forget your makeup."

Nora Ainsworth could tell at a glance that the dress was priceless. She mumbled an okay and carried the dress into the house.

Back in her bedroom, she changed out of her clothes and into the gown. It was so cold she shivered uncontrollably and didn’t even bother looking in the mirror to see how she looked.

She threw on a down jacket before washing her face and applying her makeup. She rarely wore any, but tonight, for some reason, she chose a bold look with fiery red lips. Her lips were as red as flames, her eyes were dramatically made up, and her face was as pale as snow. At first glance, she looked completely different from the usual Nora Ainsworth.

She was already beautiful without makeup, but with it, she was so stunning that it was impossible to look away.

When she walked out the main gate, Leon Lynch’s expression grew heavier. He seemed a little dazed all the way until they were in the car.

The car pulled up to the Grant Residence.

This was Nora Ainsworth’s first time at the Grant Residence.

The villa’s grounds were vast. It wasn’t completely dark yet, but the entire place was already brightly illuminated.

Many people had already arrived—all of them socialites and gentlemen from high society.

Nora Ainsworth felt like she was at some kind of mass matchmaking event. Before a few minutes had passed, Mrs. Grant invited everyone inside the villa.

This wasn’t part of the Grant family’s main living quarters; it was clearly a space designed for entertaining guests. The massive living room was boundlessly extravagant. Beams of light with golden edges swirled from above, casting a glow on the gold-colored walls. A dance floor occupied the other side of the room, and a red carpet covered the floor. The arriving young socialites all began to remove their coats, revealing the formal gowns underneath.

The temperature inside was like a summer’s day.

Leon Lynch looked at Nora Ainsworth and said in a low voice, "You should take off your jacket."

Nora Ainsworth nodded. The instant she took it off, it felt as though every eye in the room was fixed on her.

Some people began to whisper, but their eyes remained on Nora Ainsworth. Leon Lynch handed the jacket to a server and glanced to the side. "Your parents are over there. Let’s go say hello."

He took her hand, and they walked through a gauntlet of stares to join Mr. Ainsworth, Mrs. Ainsworth, and Sharon Ainsworth.
