Chapter 35: Chapter 35: No Distractions Allowed (Part 1)

Nora looked at her hands, red from the cold, and gave him a small smile. "Thank you."

Leon really didn’t like hearing her be so formal with him. "From now on, you’re not allowed to say ’thank you.’ Otherwise, I’ll kiss you every time you do."

Nora was a little speechless. ’What kind of logic is that?’

But the warmth in her hand was a reminder of his thoughtful side. The hand warmer, adorned with a cute rabbit, was clearly brand new. At that moment, her heart couldn’t help but feel a little warmer.

She watched as he drove straight toward the city center, stopping beside a Western restaurant.

"I’ve already eaten."

"But your fiancé is still hungry. Join me for a meal."

He grabbed her hand authoritatively and strode into the restaurant.

The moment they reached the entrance, Nora spotted Quentin Grant and Sharon Ainsworth sitting at a window seat.

Instantly, Quentin’s gaze landed on her, which meant he must have seen her and Leon get out of the car.

Leon saw them too and started walking toward them, pulling her along by the hand. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

"Shouldn’t we sit somewhere else?" she asked quietly.

"Your sister is over there. Come on, let’s sit together."

Nora couldn’t find an excuse to refuse and sat down next to Sharon.

"What a coincidence," Leon said, a gentle smile in his eyes.

Sharon was a little displeased, but she couldn’t very well say anything in front of Quentin.

Leon ordered a medium-rare steak for himself and a dessert for Nora.

Nora was very quiet. She kept her head down and slowly ate her dessert, trying to avoid meeting Quentin’s gaze.

They say if you walk down enough dark alleys, you’re bound to meet a ghost. For Nora, that ghost was her guilty conscience. It didn’t matter if Sharon was her biological sister, or if she was plotting against her; he was, in name, her brother-in-law.

What’s more, she had a fiancé. It was an unpardonable betrayal. If this affair ever came to light... At the thought, Nora’s hand began to tremble—

Leon paused, his knife hovering over his steak. He looked at her, a hint of surprise in his eyes. "Nora, are you cold?"

Nora shook her head, her voice raspy. "I’m not cold, just a little sleepy."

Leon’s voice softened. "Wait for me to finish, and I’ll take you home."

Nora was about to agree when a sharp gaze seemed to pierce right through her. She knew exactly whose it was.

"Eat first."

After dinner, Leon drove Nora home, and Quentin drove Sharon. The two cars pulled up to the Ainsworth Residence, one after the other.

Nora had just stepped into her bedroom when her phone chimed with a text.

She opened it. Sure enough, it was from Quentin.

He told her to wait for him in half an hour at the 519 bus stop. The stop wasn’t far from the Ainsworth Residence.

She didn’t bother replying. He knew she would be there.

Nora turned and headed downstairs.

She ran into Sharon. "You just got back. Going out again?"

"I have a bit of a headache. I’m going to buy some medicine." She didn’t want to elaborate.

Sharon shot her a sidelong glance before heading upstairs.

The moment she reached the bus stop, Quentin’s car pulled up in front of her.

She scrambled into the car, afraid someone might see her.

Her heart hammered against her ribs. "Drive."

Quentin made a U-turn, but he didn’t head toward his house.

"Where are we going?"

A rare smile appeared on his face. "I’m taking you somewhere."

She looked at him suspiciously but didn’t ask again.

Ten minutes later, they were surrounded by pitch-black darkness, with no streetlights in sight.

Quentin pulled to a stop in front of an abandoned building.
