Mr. CEO Has a Crush on Me-Chapter 576: An Elevator Encounter (4)
Chapter 576: Chapter 576: An Elevator Encounter (4)
Lu Wanwan bent down to pick up her phone, secretly clutching her chest.
The years hadn’t passed in vain; fortunately, she hadn’t cried out and managed to calm down quickly.
In the past, in an enclosed space like an elevator, she would have been immediately terrified out of her wits at the slightest darkness, wanting nothing more than to cling tightly to his arm.
She stood up and took a deep breath.
Raising her head, she saw in the darkness the gaze directed at her from her side.
A dark, deep black, as if it stretched on forever.
In this near-total darkness, she could barely make out his sharply outlined facial features, yet his eyes seemed particularly striking.
She felt it wasn’t that she could see them, but rather that she was filling in the blanks with her memory.
Those eyes were like ink that wouldn’t dissolve, their gaze entangling her, about to make her breathless.
"What’s going on?" Lu Wanwan spoke up.
Her voice sounded particularly clear in this setting.
Just now, she had seen Gu Annan looking her way and felt she had to speak up.
He could endure this awkward silence, but she couldn’t.
The most awkward part, however, was that she had finally spoken up, and after a long wait, was met with silence.
Lu Wanwan was deeply regretting, thinking she shouldn’t have initiated the conversation, when she heard a voice beside her say, "The elevator is broken."
A weight lifted from her heart; at least she didn’t regret every single word she said.
"What do we do if it’s broken?"
As the second question left her lips, she thought herself foolish.
He was a CEO, not an elevator repairman; what use was it to ask him!
If he knew what to do, he would have done it immediately; did she need to remind him?
Lu Wanwan felt her head buzzing, the long elevator ride must have swallowed her intelligence.
No matter how she thought about it, she felt like she was making pointless conversation, even deliberately striking up a chat.
Gu Annan’s indifferent gaze was fixed on her, his ears catching her regretful exhalation and the slight tremble in her arms as she hugged herself.
This enclosed space and the darkness made her particularly uncomfortable.
He took out his phone and made a call.
"Jiu Rong, I’m in your elevator."
"How many years has it been since your elevator was last inspected? Why keep it if it’s not demolished yet?"
"Get someone here to pry the doors open; I don’t want to stay in here any longer. Immediately!"
Lu Wanwan stood beside him, listening to his steady succession of sentences.
The clear and mellow timbre of his voice, the calm ebb and flow as he spoke, was particularly rhythmic.
Whatever the person on the phone said,
He paused, then continued, "Right, it’s not just me in here. Resolve this within five minutes."
After hanging up, the light from his phone briefly illuminated his face.
Lu Wanwan pressed her lips tightly together and quickly glanced at him.
Just as she saw him looking over, he began to speak, "Someone will be here to pry the doors open soon."
She didn’t respond, even though she knew those words were meant for her.
But what lingered in her mind was that he had just told his BOSS that he didn’t want to stay inside any longer.
Was it because she was there, the person he once said he never wanted to see again?
Lu Wanwan waited quietly; in that moment, she even forgot the previous awkwardness.
The silence extended endlessly until the elevator stirred again.
Instinctively, she braced herself against the front door.
That’s when she noticed the doors had been pried open a crack.
Her phone rang, and on picking it up, she saw it was Bai Lingyun.
Lu Wanwan pressed to accept the call, without bothering to see just how cold the gaze beside her became after clearly seeing the name displayed on her phone screen.
