"He is the Lycan King and also...". Beta Damien suddenly paused talking, but after glaring at the intimidating person whom he claimed was the Lycan King, he continued to say to me, "... He is Alpha Anastasia’s mate. Her second chance mate".

I froze and ended up looking at the Lycan King for a long time. I furrowed my brows as I thought, ’Could he really be the Lycan King?’.

Though I was suspicious, I knew very well that Beta Damien would not stoop so low to lie to me. I continued to stare at the Lycan King, but still had my doubts, until...

He unleashed an insane amount of his presence which made me flinch, and my eyebrows furrowed deeply, as I stared at him with widened eyes of pure disbelief.

After unleashing his aura, that was when it hit me. Lycans have the ability to conceal their aura and their presence.

That was why I could not sense the Lycan in him.

But despite that, even before he unleashed his presence, the air that surrounded him was whispering ’intimidating’ throughout.

’This amount of power surrounding him. He really must be the Lycan King, just like Beta Damien had said’.

’But, how did the Lycan King turn out to be my niece’s second chance mate? How did that happen? And I feel like I am the last person who knows about this’. I thought to myself and it still amazed me.

My eyes turned cold. "I won’t allow someone like you to become my niece’s mate". I told him, and I was damn serious about it, even though he was stronger than I was.

I had sadly lost my wolf. If not, I might stand a little chance against him.

Remembering Paloma put me back in the trenches. I was hurt, and my eyes felt hot, as tears threatened me about its arrival.

I controlled my emotions though, because I could not be seen crying like a helpless woman in the presence of these lots.

Although I had lost Paloma and was not strong like I used to be, that did not mean that I was going to back down and allow someone as ruthless as the Lycan King to claim my niece as his.

I would never allow that.

The Lycan King smirked at me, and I raised my eyebrows. I wanted to be sure that I was seeing clearly.

"Sadly, I don’t need your permission to stay together with my mate. Only she has what it takes to make me let go of her. But, I am not going to let go of her". He declared, before he went out of the ward so fast, that my eyes almost missed.

I frowned. "What did he mean by that?". I asked, staring at Beta Damien for an explanation, because I believed that he knew more than I did. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

"I believe he respects only our Alpha and will listen to her, but no one else". Beta Damien replied to me.

"Come again". I said, because I could not believe that someone as heartless as the Lycan King would listen to my niece. I added, "Are you sure you know what you are saying, beta Damien? He is the Lycan King. He is ruthless and a walking bomb. How could someone as heartless as him listen to my niece, the Alpha?".

"It’s complicated, elder Penelope. But, there is a lot you need to know. The Lycan King is not as heartless as we have imagined". Beta Damien’s words made me look at him in a way that made me start to wonder if he was truly the same Beta of the shadows’ pack, or the Beta of the Vengeful moon pack.

How could he defend the Lycan King?

"Are you defending him because he turned out to be my niece’s second chance mate?". I asked him with a frown and was straightforward.

I had been busy at the border and did not know that something like this was going on.

Anastasia was my niece. I knew I had not been a great aunt to her lately, but not anymore. I am going to protect her this time in my own way, no matter what. I am not going to let my younger brother down or his wife down.

"Actually, I am not defending him, but I am only defending the truth".

"What truth? You said that he is not as heartless as we have imagined. Then can you tell me who killed his entire family and heartlessly wiped out the entire Lycans if not him?". I demanded.

"The demons did it. The Lycan King is innocent". When everyone in the ward said this at the exact same time and defended the Lycan King, I was shocked.

I stared at them and almost could not believe it.

Were they defending the Lycan King?

So, were the rumors I heard at the border by chance true?

That there are demons in the world with us, and that they were the ones responsible for destroying the Lycan King’s family and killing off the entire Lycans.

Even though everyone might be lying to me right now, I knew Beta Damien very well, and I remembered clearly that I was among the werewolves who supported him to be the Beta werewolf of my brother, Ashton, after he newly became the Alpha.

He couldn’t possibly be lying to me.

So, the Lycan King was misunderstood all this while? But, I don’t feel quite comfortable that he was Anastasia’s mate. He is very powerful, and I don’t think he was a match for her.

Sadly, who am I to separate both of them? Although he was her second chance mate, they were fated to be with each other.

The only way that they could be separated was when they rejected each other.
