He doesn't want to be helpless because he is weak. He doesn't want his fate to be in someone else's hands. So he can only strive to grow stronger.

The opposite can happen too. He might be the one who is cheated at a business establishment. Whether he can swallow the offense or fight for his right and interest will depend on how strong he is.

Helplessness and disrespect because of weakness is something he has already experienced recently.

His mother and some people used his precious students, who he needs to earn Karma, as baits to attract the beasts that they want to fight.

They did so without asking for his opinion or his permission. They also didn't give him anything from what they gained.

That is worse than being cheated. Yet, he couldn't do anything about it.

His mother had told him that they informed him of their actions because they respected him. But he found that respect lacking.

If thru truly respected him, they wouldn't have done something like that to his face. But he knows that the respect that they have for him currently is the best that he can get. If he wants more, then he has to acquire more power.

Even though Jason was right about the relative lack of danger to himself in this part of the world because of the support of the Dyson family, danger can still come. The law of the land in this part of the world is still either growing stronger and dying.

The Dyson family knows this, and it is why they too want to grow stronger. They know that whoever stops growing stronger is just waiting to die.

He was thinking about this during the conversation with Jason's uncle. After the conversation, he found his mother waiting for him.

He didn't see Augustus, so he said, "Where's your crush? Let me have another go at sucking up to him."

She shook her head and said, "Don't bother. Let's go home."

He wanted to make some jokes, but he saw that lady Vena was not in the mood. She was very silent. She was also in a rush to leave the party. It reminded him of the last time he was in this auditorium.

The last time he was here, it was eleven years ago when he was three years old. He had come here in Geltra's arms with Lady Vena to attend Tyson's naming ceremony.

After that ceremony, Lady Vena had left the auditorium quickly as if she was being chased. Then she had sat in the carriage all silent and moody.

He can remember that day vividly because it was when Lady Vena gave up on him. So he can tell that her current behavior is similar to that day.

But just like that day, he can't tell why she is so moody. He has his suspicions, but he doesn't think what he suspects is enough to put her in such a bad mood.

However, he still tried to rectify his errors. He started with apologizing.

He said, "Honestly, I didn't know that he was behind him. If I had known, I wouldn't have said what I said about his talent."

What he said drew her attention. She looked at him and rolled her eyes at him. Then she said, "Not everything is about you."

He sighed in relief and said, "That's a relief."

He relaxed and sat back into his seat as the tension left his body.

But then he heard Lady Vena say, "Except this situation is about you."

He cursed in a low voice, "Damn it. I so fucking knew it."

Then he sighed and asked her, "I have already apologized. What more do you want from me?"

She didn't reply. Instead, she smiled sweetly at him and asked, "How was the party?"

The way she smiled at him caused goosebumps to rise on his body. Her smile was unnatural to him.

He had never seen her smile like that all of his life, so he scooched away from her in order to create some distance between them.

As he distanced himself, he replied, "It was fine."

She continued to smile as she asked, "What was fine about it?"

He said, "Tyson wasn't bad. He is cute. The bow was also great. I like the bow very much."

She moved closer to him and said, "It is good to hear that you enjoyed yourself. You shouldn't forget that you got to enjoy yourself and get that bow because I forced you to attend the party."

Arthur had already reached the wall of the carriage. There was nowhere to go in order to keep his distance from his mother.

So he said, "What do you want, Mother? Do you want to fight me? I have already said I'm sorry for what you did. I can apologize to Augustus if you want."

She frowned and said, "Forget about Augustus."

Arthur asked with suspicion, "Really?"

She nodded. "Really."

Then she made a pitiful face and said, "I can't believe you would think I would beat you because of him."

Arthur coughed and said, "I said fight. I wasn't going to let you just beat him and do nothing. I was ready to resist like I always do."

She was still acting pitiful as she asked, "Do you think I am a bad mother, Arthur?"

Arthur thought about it and replied. "It depends on who you ask."

She frowned at him. "I am asking you."

He thought about it some more and said, "You're better than most mothers. At the very least, I know you tried to do your best for me. I also wasn't exactly a model child. All in all, many people will be jealous of me because of the kind of mother I have."

She slumped in her seat and said gloomily, "That's not what I asked."

She became silent then. She began to brood again. It was clear that she was in a bad mood. It was even worse than the bad mood that she left the party with.
