Chapter 80: Old Friend

Once, in an unknown universe, there was a man who lived without a purpose.

He was so aimless that this void was slowly consuming him from within.

He had no goal.

He had no dream.

And as he well knew, a man without a dream is no different from a dead man.

The man’s name was Lilbert.

Fed up with everything, he secluded himself in a forest, living only with his small field and the animals he raised.

He lived merely for the sake of living.

Thinking about other people made him angry; they lived as if they would never die, like fools.

To him, death was the end of all dreams.

It was death that gave stories their beauty, and after death, time would simply clean up the mess left behind.

One rainy day, he could no longer endure it.

He cried out: "WHOSOEVER IS OUT THERE! GOD OR DEVIL!! TALK TO ME! I BEG YOU!!!"

Suddenly, the raindrops froze in mid-air, and a dark entity appeared before him.

Lilbert could only remember the smile on its face.

"Hello, Lilbert. You may call me Entity."

Lilbert immediately prostrated himself: "Are you real?! Does God exist? Or the Devil?! Please, answer my questions!"

The Entity lifted him by his shoulders and brushed the dust off his clothes: "I am neither Devil nor God. Tell me, Lilbert. What is your wish? What could a man as aimless as you possibly want?"

"I... I just don’t want to die. I want immortality..."

The Entity placed a hand on its chin as if in thought: "Does death frighten you? Or is it the unknown that lies behind it?"

"I fear the darkness that follows death. I will do anything, just give me immortality," Lilbert said.

The Entity looked at him:" I will grant your wish. In exchange, Lilbert, I will take your soul and your body on the day you are happiest."

"It doesn’t matter! I’ve never been happy in my life! I only live to survive! I beg of you, Entity!"

The Entity replied: "Lilbert, you do not fear the darkness behind death; you fear not being alone in that darkness. I shall grant your wish. Now, see for yourself how absurd the thing you view as a blessing truly is."

Lilbert suddenly felt a surge of power; his eyes widened.

He was about to thank the Entity, but it had already vanished.

Knowing he could no longer die, Lilbert went out into the world.

A group of bandits even tried to kill him, but his wounds closed instantly as if they had never existed.

He continued his life, trying things he had never dared before.

But time passed—so much time that kingdoms fell and others rose.

Lilbert did everything in his power to find happiness, but it never came.

For a while, he loved a girl, but the village suddenly branded her a witch, and she was burned before his very eyes.

Even while loving her, he hadn’t loved her fully.

Even now, though he desperately wanted to be happy, he couldn’t.

He screamed to the Entity, even called out to demons, but there was no answer.

The world progressed until humanity reached Type III civilization status.

Even though Lilbert was wealthy, nothing in that era brought him joy.

He attempted suicide every day, only to return as if nothing had happened.

Finally, the apocalypse arrived.

Humanity had exhausted all the resources on Earth, and everyone began to die.

Lilbert was the only one left.

He smiled; a strange sense of happiness washed over him.

Perhaps it was because he was the last person to witness the end of the world.

The fact that he was the sole survivor filled the strange void inside him.

Time stopped like he first met entity.

Even the ashes in the air stood still.

"Why have you come now, Entity? Why did you never answer me until today?" Lilbert asked.

The Entity looked at him, revealed its true face, and manifested a table.

Sitting down on a chair, it said, "Sit across from me, Lilbert." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Lilbert sat down, feeling a sense of relief. "Can I finally die?"

"Normally, I would take your soul and torture you now, Lilbert. But before that, what do you think about life?" the Entity asked.

Lilbert smiled. "Life... I hate life."

"Then why are you still living?"

"Because, like a hypocrite, I also love life."

The Entity burst into laughter. "HAHAHAHAHA! You finally understood, didn’t you? No one truly wants to die deep down. But Lilbert, instead of your soul, I want something else from you. I will ensure your soul goes to Heaven, or perhaps Valhalla. Just tell the Goddess who greets you that Raul sent you."

"What do you want, Entity? Aren’t you being a bit greedy?"

"I want your body. In this ring I hold is Aurelia, the Whore of Babylon. I will leave her in a man’s corpse in a desolate world... all alone. I could take your body even without your permission, but I am asking anyway."

"You are better than I thought, Entity. When I think of a being like you, I realize even you must suffer from existential crises more than I do. I’m sure God Himself feels it too."

The Entity silenced Lilbert. "Do not speak of God that way, Lilbert. God is everywhere. Do you know why? Shall I tell you?"

"I would love to hear it."

"In the nothingness where time and space did not exist, God grew bored. Even the angels and demons had been created by then. What did God do? He can see the future. Past, present, and future are one to Him. So he wondered: What if he blew himself up?

And he did it!!

A will remained behind Him! In science, this is the explanation for the ’God Particle.’ The universe expanded and is now slowly shrinking back; God’s will will eventually reunite with itself. Do you understand?"

Lilbert stammered, "I... I understand, Entity. Now, I can go happily."

The Entity waved its hand, and Lilbert’s soul departed for Valhalla.

"YOU LITTLE BASTARD, GET ME OUT OF THIS MALE BODY!" Aurelia, now inside Lilbert’s body, tried to attack Raul, but it was futile.

Raul gave her one last look. "Aurelia, the Whore of Babylon... you made people bow to your so-called charm. You caused wars. You caused chaos in the universe where I reside. Now, in an empty world where there is nothing to admire your beauty, what will you do? Now, go and enjoy yourself," Raul said, pointing his palm toward her.

Aurelia was blasted into the air.

Gabriel appeared. "That is a perfect punishment..."

"Yes, it is. Only aliens remain in this universe, and it would take them 5 billion years to reach this place. I am sealing this universe now. If Aurelia ever encounters another living being, she will go straight to my hell."

"You’re looking more handsome to me now."

"Shut up, Gabriel. Let’s go."
