The festival lights were dying one by one, but the warmth in my chest refused to fade.
Fenrir, Artemis, and I enjoyed the festival to the fullest.
I was genuinely having fun—laughing at terrible carnival games, stuffing my face with sticky sweets, letting the music and the crowd carry me along.
That simple fact felt like a small miracle.
Even though Saint Maria’s occasional stares made me uncomfortable, it didn’t matter.
She knows I’m an entity, and the weight of that truth must be crushing her.

I stopped thinking about them and started listening to the endlessly talking Artemis.
I was looking at her face, and for some reason, it felt like I had just met this girl yesterday—maybe because time doesn’t mean much to me anymore.
She was talking nonstop—about the food stalls, the stupid games, the constellations she could see through the festival lights.
Her voice was like music, light and teasing, and that’s one of the thing i love about her personality.
But right now, with her cheeks flushed from excitement and the glow of lanterns on her skin, she felt different.....
Artemis suddenly stopped, and her face turned red: "Are you even listening to me, Raul?"
"Sometimes I find you really charming, Artemis."
But then she suddenly pushed my shoulder: "Idiot! People are looking at us!"
A few people really were looking, but I pulled Artemis closer to me: "So what?"
"Hmm, I like this side of you more," she said, resting her head on my shoulder as we started walking together.
At the end of the night, we came to a small lake to watch the fireworks.
The atmosphere here was incredibly enchanting and beautifully lit.
We stood there waiting together, with Fenrir standing beside us like a third wheel.
I saw other people—Lara was there with Hans and a few guys hanging around her. They really looked like friends, but those guys were clearly in love with her. Especially that elf—I could see it in his eyes.
We also spotted Victoria and Saint Maria; they seemed to have become friends. Bella was probably watching Victoria from afar. The air was full of romance...
"EVERYONE, START COUNTING DOWN WITH ME! 10!"
Everyone began counting backward from 10.
Artemis’s hand found mine.
She squeezed.
"3... 2... 1..."
FSHHHHHHH BOOOM
A heart-shaped firework exploded in the sky, lighting up the night.
I looked at Artemis and saw her fidgeting.
When our eyes met, I paused for a moment.
Her pupils were huge, reflecting every exploding color.
But suddenly she grabbed me by the back of my neck and kissed me... It didn’t last long, but her sweet scent lingered on my lips.
When she pulled away, her face was brighter than the fireworks.
"T-This is your reward for not abandoning me at the festival," Artemis said, her face tomato-red.
I lightly tapped her forehead: "Tsundere."
Artemis’s eyes teared up, but this time I kissed the spot I tapped: "It’s okay now, right?"
"That was my first kiss—don’t you forget it!"
But suddenly something bit me.
When I looked, Fenrir was tugging at me: "Me too."
I picked her up and looked at her wolf form—she looked like a cute little puppy.
I laughed, scooped her up, and kissed the top of her fuzzy head.
Artemis shot her a glare that could have peeled paint off battleships.
But Artemis gave her a deadly glare.
We were a bit far from the academy—this was the best spot, and most people had gathered here.
BOOOOOOOOOOOM
A shockwave ripped through the air.
My clothes fluttered violently.
The lake’s surface rippled as if struck. Everyone froze.
Artemis and I whipped our heads toward the academy.
Screams echoed in the distance.
So it begins.
